Root How To Restore Phone With DL Mode.

Does anyone have a link to the Lg flash tools that actually works? Every link ive used ive gotten a 404 error

Finally got up the courage to attempt downgrade to v3 to regain root on my LG Volt. Success! One click with Towelroot enabled me to re-install a working wifi tethering app (Wifi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso) is only one I've found that works with KitKat equipped devices like the Volt.. Had previous experience with Odin installations but had never worked with LG equivalent. It's terrific having the tools and guidance (encouragement too) available in these forums. A special thank you to danhalen1 via XDA for pointing me in the right direction. To others like me who are hesitant, this does work (follow JGrosstephanJR's precise instructions and you too will restore root. All the best!

Just flashed with LG FlashTool last night using asmugone's download links. Once you move megalock.dll into extracted tool folder it works as described. Saw screenshots somewhere but forget where. BTW, am just west of you in Hanover, PA.

Does anyone know how to identify the LG device software update "item" in either Titanium, ROM Toolbox or App Quarantine apps so that I can freeze v4 notification? So happy v3 plus root back but not ready to try recovery, fastboot, installation of custom v4 rom yet.

Has anyone attempted this using windows running in a virtual machine (Virtual Box) on a Mac? I currently don't have a dedicated Windows box & would like to avoid bricking my phone as I do the V4 to V3 downgrade so I may have root again....

EDIT:
The answer is "yes", it works. One has to go into the Virtual Box USB device settings & add the LG handset so that the Mac OS X wouldn't "capture" use of the Volt when the USB is plugged in.

I thought I had made a brick when it got to the "Mini OS" step, but then realized that the directions say to press and hold the power button THEN press the "Boot normally" button on the screen...I flashed it 3 or 4 times, thinking the flash tool would "do something" at that point...Ultimately, the flash tools said it failed, when the handset was booting normally...

OK so Ive done this 100 times now. I keep getting Failed previousload error. Anyone else have this problem??

So I just got a new LG volt (on virgin mobile) and unwittingly upgraded to v4 before I knew what I was doing. Came here to downgrade, but I can't get past step 5. It says "wrong dll file". I've attempted this with both the megalock.dll given in the download link in OP and with one found through google, on an xda forum. Anyone have an idea of what could be going wrong?

I've attempted this, but it stops me on the last part. It does not boot to Mini OS but instead gets stuck on "Factory Reset Status 2" screen. In LG FlashTool, it says "FAIL!!! Factory_BootComplete() 00000064" And now my phone is stuck. It'll go to any other modes of anything, but when trying to flash it to factory reset, it will not get past FRS 2.

LG Volt (LS740) from Virgin Mobile

Attempted this method through all steps provided. Phone is stuck on FRS 2 and the update_dl window shows no sign of any S/W installed. I think I bricked my first phone. I followed everything to the T and it still bricked me. Any thoughts?

*EDIT* The phone is now working with root access. Followed a simple guide. When your phone shows it has 99% completed installation, hold down Vol+ on your phone until the black screen. Then hold Vol+ and power and let it boot cycle a few times. Let go of the buttons and you should reach the menus shown in MiniOS to install everything.

My phone carrier still shows as Virgin Mobile and the phone has been stripped of bloatware. Things worked better than originally expected.

How would one go about installing the LG flash tool on a linux computer? Is there a big difference? I currently have NO access to a windows computer, but i could also use a Mac computer as well. Please and thank you :)

Pretty sure the LG Flash tool is Windows only.

i thionk you misunderstood.ok for example say i wind up with a boot loop and am unable to boot into recovery. Will i be able to utilize the download mode to revert back to stock ? I have used the Laf Recovery tool to flash CWM. I wasnt sure if that made changes to my LAF partition and rendered it unable to use the download mode method .

I thought that using laf recovery tool to flash cwn might have made a change that i was not fully aware of that rendered the use of the download mode inoperable. I know that they are seperate things but if i cannot boot into recovery and i need download mode i would be screwed. I was already thinking that it would be fine but I like to cover my bases .
