Root [HOW TO]: Root, Install a Custom ROM, Fix the Market, and Add Flash

Hi, I know this is off-topic...but I'm developing an Android App and attempting to test on the Viewsonic gTablet. I'm developing the app in Flash and it needs Adobe Air to run...However, when I attempt to download Adobe Air from the Android Market...I get a 'incompatible with this device' comment and I am prevented from installing...

Can anyone shed some light on this for me...
,Thanks

Then that means, cvm didn't install. If you press power and vol +, it should take to you to cvm menu. If it didn't, then you still have the stock recovery. Which CVM file did you use?

1. install ClockworkMod Recovery with the instructions in posts #34(external SD card) or #35(internal SD card) of this thread.

It seems that you inadvertently swapped the links for the external and internal SD cards: post #34 is for the internal SD card and post #35 for the external one.

This is great info! Thanks so much for compiling it. I'm going to pick up a gTablet from Craig's List on Thursday ($275, with a carbon fiber skin, screen protector, two AC adapters and a Malata docking station---not a bad deal!), and I'm excited to install the various custom ROMs to see which one I like the best. These instructions are invaluable for a beginner with Android tablets like me!

fixed!

I followed your instructions exactly, loading VEGAn on a new stock G tab. I know nothing about rooting, ROMs, etc. but am comfortable moving files from one device to another. I was immediately successful. Thank you for making this easy for us newbies!

Okay people...I just went with the gTablet an have been reading up on the forum, I am assuming this is the most current updated ROM fix, flash, apps etc. I'm getting ready to jump off and am a little leary. I have had my tab about 3 days and am pretty happy so far, it seems like VEGAn, CWM, is the way to go, I was just wondering if this is still the best most current fix, it seems so as the sticky was updated the 3_09_11...any last minute advice??

Solid, just revamped his first post with instructions on how to load a custom rom.

Couple of updates, there's a newer version of flash instead of 10.1 it's 10.2. I haven't really had the time to mess with it yet. The one linked on the first post is flash 10.1 which I believe works really well with the gtablet already. As for the ROMS itself, I think they are pretty current except for TnT lite 5.0. That's new but there's a special way to install that ROM. So tread carefully.

Oh and one last piece of advice.....if you need help or having any questions...just ask here or search this thread. We're willing to help. :)

Guys, much thanks for all of the info here. I got my gtab yesterday and installed Clockworkmod and VEGAn today. I was really leery of doing this until I found this forum, GREAT WORK!!!!!!

Okay followed the O.P.'s instructions for installing Clockwork without rooting and worked like a charm...CW recovery installed and backed up...

one question I just thought of is regarding installing CW without actually rooting, and therefore without SuperUser....won't I have to have SuperUser on my tab if I want to download those "root only" apps like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, etc.?

I have CW recovery but have not loaded a custom ROM yet....wondering if I should go ahead and root in order to be able to use the above-mentioned apps....

UPDATE: Okay I may have just answered my own question...installing the custom ROM should actually create the "root" and give me SuperUser....if anyone can confirm I would appreciate...

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Yes, installing the custom ROM gives Root and SuperUser app....

and thanks to SolidOrange for the post and info....very informative!

I didn't have any problems flashing VEGAn, however when I try to open the market, it just flashes and returns to the menu. I have flashed it twice and have the same results. I haven't found anyone with the same problem. Any ideas to fix this.

Alright, I just flashed CM7 and the market does the same exact thing. I am really stumped.
