How will the iPhone 4s sell?

Lots of rumblings about people underwhelmed with the new iPhone upgrade. With Android steaming ahead strongly, do you think the iPhone 4s's sales will be disappointing?

Not really. Lots of people will switch from at&t to Sprint and lots of people will be getting their first smartphone, worldwide.

And with Apple's war chest, expect strong advertising.

Android will continue to gain market share over iPhones, but Apple's presentation was specific - they are looking at first-time smartphone buyers now.

Completely agreed, I don't think it will affect sales at all. If anything it will be less than the iPhone 4, but they will still sell plenty of units.

no. too many apple lemmings out there already flogging their iphone 4 to get an identical looking phone with one or 2 extra features.

Dont know I see with the passing of Jobs that many sells will be out of respect for him.

Yes, and not just from many who already were aware of him and what he meant to the tech/computer/handset world.

We're seeing headlines in all news media outlets celebrating his career and influence. "What have I missed?" will likely come to the minds of other device users who may not have thought much about an iPhone before his death and the posthumous attention (not that there wasn't enough attention to him before this ;)).

Eh, it seems to me the same thing happens every time Apple releases something new. The mass public cries about how Apple is "ripping them off", but come release week there's a line a mile long outside the Apple store waiting a week in advanced.

They'll be fine. I've still seen tons of Facebook/forum posts of people still super stoked about the 4S even though they're disappointed it's not the 5.

I think for the folks with older iphones, like 3gs and such it make sense to update. Now the ones who are on iphone 4 and under contract might not see the need to upgrade. Some may not want to waste an upgrade unsure if a new iphone redesign is coming in 6 to 9 months. Yeah they will sell, its Apple but I recall all the hype when the iphone was coming to verizon and this will raised Apple sale numbers and all. But lets be honest it did not do much what the hype claimed. I see Sprint benefitting more from this than anything else. By Apple standards, the sale numbers will probably be disappointing.

heads up: i renamed the topic by rephrasing the question in a more neutral way. nothing terribly wrong with the original; just wanted to remove the leading in hopes of generating less biased responses.

thanks for understanding.

The 4S will still definitely a LOT of phones (in relation to other phones) but it won't have the excitement and momentum that the 4 had. It must be mentioned as well that Steve Jobs's death will increase sales.

Apple’s long term carrier parter AT&T has announced that they have processed 200,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4S, making the new Apple smartphone the most successfully launched iPhone yet. These 200,000 orders only come during the first 12 hours of sales, which started around midnight. Notably, these are just AT&T’s numbers and don’t include Apple’s own online pre-orders or the orders through Apple’s other U.S. carrier partners, Verizon Wireless and Sprint.

Reports are that Sprint has also sold out of its 16GB 4S stock as well.

I'm glad it's doing well. Competition is healthy; Android and Apple can both succeed and push each other in the process.... and the customer ultimately wins.

My family (myself included) got 5 of the iPhone 4S this morning!

I will still keep my beloved Android phone as well.....but nothing touches an iPhone. The "Cadillac" of smartphones!

Truth.

I always see the iPhone as a Prius, personally. Smaller, lighter, smooth ride, but no actual power. I'll keep my muscle car, thank you.

16GB model preorders sold out.

Wife ended up getting a 32gb model yesterday. at that point, the 16gb was still available. Sprint must be doing a big sigh of relief right about now on their iPhone gamble.

I didn't expect Sprint to have a problem. Apple could make the iPhone 4S+ in 2 months with pink, blue, and yellow colors available and the only real difference is it could have a 4" screen and fanboys would eat it up.

Allot of us oftern joke that Apple could just release the same phone with a new name and it would still sell amazing well.

And then we have the iPhone 4S which to the average user that doesnt care about specs is basically the iPhone 4 with an S.

Anyway to answer the question, the iPhone 4S will sell well, we never get sales figures for individual iPhones so we will probably never know if it sells more or less than previous iPhones.

Well didn't the iphone4 sold out when it hit verizon? I find it interesting that at&t saying this is their best iphone launch. They had exclusive rights to the iphone when it was first debut and some years after.
