hows your Battery Life so far....

I must be the only person getting awesome battery life.

I just keep all push notifications off untill I need to use them. I streamed pandora for about 6 hours yesterday did lots of browsing and texting and still had about 33% battery life when I went to bed. People who are getting poor battery life obviously have not read up on many different ways to save battery life

I am seeing a definite difference though between different Epic phones. Both my wife and I have one and hers BY FAR is getting much better battery life. One potential reason may be that when I picked up the phones, I went ahead and used mine with what battery juice it had left. With hers, I just took it home and fully charged the battery prior to use. Could that be the difference?

hmmmmm...I charged mine while playing with it...so that could be it, I have great battery life

My battery life has been poor, not as bad as some, but yesterday I got 14 hours. The issue is that the phone was off for most of that time. Total screen on time over that 14 hours was only 40 minutes.

I was comparing battery use with a friend who has an Evo and his phone showed a category for WiFi and my Epic didn't even though I had WiFi on all day. Is that because the Evo has Froyo and the Epic doesn't?

Today I am going to leave WiFi off but all of the other settings the same and see if it makes a difference.

I have a weather app and E-Mail that sync every 30 minutes, but that is it for background syncing.

I did OK with battery during the week while I'm at work. Easy enough to plug-in to USB to keep a full charge. On Friday, traveled home from TX (3 hr) flight, listening to music the whole way and landed with one bar of battery. Was dead before i got home from the airport :-(

So I bought the spare/battery and charger yesterday at the Sprint store. Should be a non-issue now.

I am having amazing battery life. The standby on this thing is simply amazing. I can easily go 14+hours with out needed juice and that is with descent use. I do have to be careful with things like youtube though.

my battery life is fantastic. I had 4g on all day, took it off of charging since 8:30, and I still have half battery life leftover at this point and time now. and that's with texting, playing need for speed, dloading app updates, and phone calls.

Is it 9 where you live right now? :p

ive had it off the charger since 11 am and still have it off. been using it slighty less then any normal day and the battery bar just changed to halfway gone. 5 hrs of up time is only info I can offer since I don't have any monitors installed but I'm pleased .. just doubt once I dl apps it will be the same

I apologize if the link didn't work

This is the main post over at xda...
[Q] Time without signal > 50% - xda-developers

In short, turn on Airplane mode, then turn it right back off again, and it fixes the problem causing battery drain.

It's worked for me, and apparently many others too. Best of luck.

Thanks, it works. I'll have to see how well it works tomorrow. I hope it can make it past 9 hours. My epic went from 100% to 20% in 9 hours with me just making 30 calls, all lasting no longer then 1 minute each calls. My old Evo hit 20% after 12 hours.

Man, I don't know which battery life is correct, they're all different lol. The built in icon when the phone is on differs from Battstat app and when the phone is off it differs from that display too.

Does that look like 62% (top right) Or are these types of applications not really accurate?

So far, mine hasn't been too good. In fact, I've ordered an additional battery and a desktop charger because I'm not even getting a full day out of it. Right now:

4h24m, with no txt, no email, no anything, screen off, 75%. If I was to actually use it, such as I did earlier today, 6 txts, and I was down to 89% from a full "blue light" charge. No biggie though because I like the phone. I hope there's some way to fix this eventually, and I have an app killer loaded already. Soon enough though, I'm sure seido or someone will come out with an extended life battery. I actually use the phone a lot more, but have been trying to test the battery life with no real usage, just to get a normal standby time.

side note: No wifi, no gps, no blutooth, and no 4g turned on.

(btw, that battery and charger were only 17 bucks total.)

Mine seems to be getting better with use, it wasn't that bad to start off with though. With heavy browser use (kills tons of battery) I was seeing 6-8 hours of battery life. I still go through a lot of battery when I browse but its not 10% an hour anymore, it's more like 7-8% an hour. I think once I get to a normal usage, with some browsing, occasional GPS, email, texts, etc it should be getting around 15hrs+. Lately I've been getting about 10hrs with moderate/heavy use.

Where did you get it so cheap?

A full day is a lot for a big screen, ghz, and six radio (voice, data, 4g, gps, bluetooth, wifi) smort phone even under light usage.

Everyone is going to have a high degree of variables based on tehir average RF and features used: the inherent RF conditions of their home and work (nominal to poor signal strength uses more battery than strong signal strength location, for all uses even just talk and standby, as well as any data usage), their own usage patterns, etc.

Your best bet if you are a heavy user may not be to turn your $500 smart-phone into a $100 dumphone by disabling everything, but instead identifying and acquiring known 1000 ma chargers for home, office, and vehicle and just keep that sucker plugged in whenever possible. we have two 1000 ma in the bedroom, two in the kitchen, one at each of our home office desks and two in the car.. In our vehicle for example if you are running nav, which invovles full time use of gps receptiop, usually full time 3g, full time use of screen likely at good birghtness, and continual processor use, and speaker, your device could be pulling 400 to 600 ma. the 1500 mah of your battery refers to milliamp hours. this means pulling 500 ma will drain a charged battery to zero in three hours. It also means a cheap 400 ma charger may also result in drain instead of charge while using GPS even plugged in, and a 700 ma charger may barely keep up. The same is true for charging from computers which is usually limited to 500 ma through usb

Just a heads up that may help some. XDA found a potential fix. I've created a thread here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-epic-4g/168577-fix-fast-battery-draining.html
and thought I should post it in this battery thread.

Take a look. It seems to be helping so far.

This fixed it for sure, I was seriously contemplating sending this back and getting a Blackberry or something . The previous 2 days had the battery lasting about 5-6 hrs with very light use. Just some texting and that's about it. Did the "airplane mode" fix from the above post and the next day got 14hrs before plugging it back in before bed at 40%. Still had light use that day but it was more than the previous days. Did some web browsing a couple of calls and a few texts. Today will be a real test since I will be on a more normal schedule. I will post an update tomorrow if things go well again.

Time without signal is now 2 % from the origional 30% when I first looked into it.

One item that still bothers be is that the largest user of my battery is the display. Probably averaging about 70% since I've had it. Oh well as long as the battery last a full day I don't care whats using the battery.

Oh yeah, somewhere further else in this post, it is mentioned that the link doesn't work, copying and pasting directly into the browser worked.

I get very good battery life. Much better than my EVO. I can easily get 15+ hours using email push, youtube, news app, 20 texts and a few calls.
Strangely I can't charge the phone to 100%.

The Samsung Tech support number is useless. I was talking to a lady in India that was trying to tell me how to go to airplane mode when explaning the bug to her.

Can anyone tell me what the 3G Icon means when it goes from the up-down arrows to D ?

For what I do, the battery life is perfect. Even long sessions of watching movies and playing games don't seem to drain it much.

First one reads: 21 hours and 29 minutes. For almost 4 hours of that, the screen is on. So you people saying you get 5 hours of battery life are doing something very wrong... or you have a bad phone. I can easily surpass 4 hours battery life with the screen on the whole time. Some of you don't seem to realize that once the phone hits 10-15%, it takes a LONG TIME to get it down to 0%. This is probably due to the battery just not being calibrated yet. At 6% battery I actually had to watch a whole hour of movies to get it to 0%... and even then the phone did not shut down. I know it's not good for the battery to get this low... this is why I have 2 :P I always keep a spare on me.

My phone was in airplane mode because the battery was at 0% and I didn't want it to crash before I snapped the photos. Cell standby is a major killer of battery. A solution to that (if you have a large cell standby number) is just to toggle airplane mode on and off when you boot up your phone. It works... dont know why. By my cell standby is almost always down to 5-10% now. More info on this issue here: [Q] Time without signal > 50% - xda-developers

I took those pictures with an EVO.... lol :D
