Root Hroarkernel 1.2

Thanks Hroark for this new kernel, it's amazing that in just a few months the Prevail is having custom kernels and roms. I am going to flash this new kernel, but I have a question. I know this kernel supports link2sd but does it support something like Darktremor apps2sd since it supports init.d? If it does I am willing to try it out. Thanks for all your hard work.

to be honset I have not been able to test the init.d stuff yet

mabe ill try testing apps2sd and see if it works

so are you planing to cook a rom?

maybe, i am not sure yet

i would like to test a rom that is

completely ext4
de-odexed
zipalligned (whatever that means)
bloatware removed
CIQ removed

but I have to research this stuff, so don't expect anything soon

what other things would be good in a rom? I only want to make a base ROM i dont want to add alot of apps to it, just the essentials

and then we could add apps and theme packs to it later

no it does not, trust me, i know these things

i was not sure before, but I know for sure now

when the partition is first created in CWM it is ext2

if you factory wipe or format it goes to ext4

This is the same in both versions of my CWM

But with this new kernel a module loads that allows ext4 access when you go in to CWM or load the Android OS

The stock kernel has built in support for ext2 so no module is needed

We would not need an ext4 module if we could compile samsung source code, but we can not because it is broke

So we have to load a module for ext4 support

I am not gonna add ext3 support, there is no need for it.

If the ext4 does not work out well, I will release a version of CWM that leaves the sd-ext at ext2 when you factory wipe and format

1. I'm NOT saying you should add ext3 support, i'm saying that is what happens when you use the older versions of stuff, which is the ONLY reason why i mentioned the idea of adding ext3 support to the kernel or what not, in the first place

2. well dude, trust me, all i know is what the software tells me, and according to Minitool Partition Wizard Home Edition v6.0, people using CWM 4.0.1.4 (with shabbymod 0.9) will get a ext3 partition no matter what you do from CWM

if you do any of these things in CWM 4.0.1.4, you will get the following results (according to the software mentioned above):

A. -advanced -> -Partition SD Card = ext3

B. -mounts and storage -> -format /sd-ext = ext3

C. -wipe data/factory reset (which i think is the same thing as doing B. format) = ext3

[sidenote: i get an error when trying to mount /sd-ext.]

now it's possible that this minitool wizard is not able to properly recognize the ext version, but i ran a few tests and it seemed to work ok, i think the confusion is arising between users not the software, but if someone thinks that minitool wizard is unreliable feel free to make a better suggestion

3. btw if you did update "CWM 4.0.1.4" it might be a good idea to call it something else to avoid confusion for the time being might i suggest 4.0.1.5??

now i was just about to install your latest and greatest stuff and see what happens, but i just wanted to clear that up before i offer any additional feedback

i hope this helps

Yes that software is wrong,

I am getting a little tired of having to repeat myself about the whole ext3/ext4 topic

I told you I know for sure, do you doubt me?

Why do you doubt me?

I am done with that topic, it does not create an ext3 partiton that software is wrong.

3. the version is set by the makers of CWM not me, I did not create CWM I made a port

like a comment i made to shabby, it would be nice to know if everything installed properly

kernel version says same thing as before, is there a way to know if it installed or not?

*goes off to create/format some partitions*

format sd-ext partition in CWM

Install link2sd and when it ask for partition choose ext4

in link2sd goto menu and there is a storage info item

see if you can see the second partition

or

format sd-ext partition in CWM

in CWM got to mounts and storage and mount sd-ext

connect phone to computer

adb shell
mount

look for

/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext4 (rw,nodev,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1

well it looks like link2sd agrees with you, which may be the only way we could verify which ext version we are using?? since minitool doesn't seem to recognize ext4's created by CWM

it even has a legend for ext4 in the program which is how i tried to verify that it could recognize it, but it ONLY seems to recognize ext4's created by minitool since all the ones created by CWM appear as ext3, and btw EASEUS doesn't recognize either and just calls it "Other"

so i guess it is a software problem after all? can't we all just get along :(

if you want to be able to test Android phones you need to learn how to use adb, if you have the kms rooting script or shabbymod files on your computer, you already have a copy of adb.exe somewhere on you computer

you can verify the partition type with adb like i said in my previos post

i dont mind you asking questions, and pointing out my mistakes, but before you write a post about a misktake I made, make sure you verify that it really is a mistake I made, and not some misunderstaning you have

this thread is already 4 times longer than it should be

Compare Editions Partition Wizard

Support Linux Ext2, Ext3 file system

if they supported Ext4 i think it would be listed

i think i know why they don't advertise it ;P

still working out the bugs i guess

and now for the punchline, guess why i used minitool in the first place?

because the programmer for link2sd said he uses it :D

[App] Link2SD - xda-developers

I use free "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" (windows application) for this. ~bakpinar

i guess someone should tell him he's using bad software

its not bad software, i am sure it is very usefull, it just doesnt fully support ext4, and does not claim to, i am sure it will in the future

So is it best to use cwm to make a partition than use a program on my pc ? And if I use cwm to create a partition do I need to do a
factory wipe after ?

if you are using my kernel

create partition in cwm and format it in cwm in the mounts and storage menu or do a factory wipe

then install link2sd and chose ext4

So this is stock aside from EXT4 support? Curious as I like the closed backdoor but want to experiment with getting an EXT4 conversion to speed the phone up.

k i think i saw it somewhere in here but there was some debate over what a factory wipe resets the ext to? its ext3, just did it....kinda by accident.

from what i understand of ext, ext 4 combines the speed of ext2 and error checking of ext3 and is the best ext to use for our link2sd needs?

am i wrong?

no its ext4, if you read this thread, you will see why i say that
