HTC Desire HD vs IPhone4?

I've already discounted the iPhone 4, far too expensive. The DHD is excellent for the price you can buy it, although all this faffing around with the release date has got me interested in the Samsung Galaxy S.

That said, I'll probably stick with the DHD, the Sense UI is what got me interested in getting an Android phone in the first place

EDIT: After watching the Samsung Galaxy S reviews, it's the Desire HD for me

Technically the iPhone 4 is cheaper than the Desire HD if you get it on Tesco mobile in some respects ;).

@RussWWFC - the SGS has one hinder that stopped me from getting that handset - crappy GPS. So did iPhone with no free Navigation apps. DHD ftw :)

I'm sure the GPS issue is firmware related and will be fixed soon :)

Well after watching a video kind of makes some unfair comparisons.

Example:

Same tracks and not compared..So depending on the db of the track, course its going to be louder.

....

Only thing iPhone has now over other devices is its screen. Facing facts, the only thing that really compares to it is Samsungs Super AMOLED screen.

Big thing that detracts me from the iphone is no haptic feedback on messages..but wait...theres an app for that..But why should you pay for haptic feedback?.

On the plus side, HTC sense looks great as ever!!

The iphone resolution i'll give it that but the phone still has that boring look. They hype the design on the iphone but to me the sides look unfinished with the two slab of glass not flush around the edges.

No, you can get iphone 4 on 3 for free.

I was just offered it yesterday, for free, 45/mo. So it's more per mon th, but if you actually want an iphone there you are.

Free on the One Plan which is 24 months if im right..

So if it works out as free phone at

hi all,

thinking of getting a desire - but dhd could be on the cards too :)

questions:
1.will the regular desire not get 3.0 gingercake?
2.in a review the dhd's screen was said to be not as good as hoped for - not so crisp?

cheers
dan

Ive been comparing the two phones for a while now. I dont have the cash to buy the iphone from Tesco so ive compared the deals that suit me the best for my

Hello, my first post.

Can you upload itunes music to the HTC Desire? :confused: I have quite a large library on my Macbook.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure there are some different views now that the phones have been properly in use.

I must say, I can't buy apple products. Seems like with Apple, you are paying more for less - the only difference is that it looks better and it's idiot-proof. The problem with idiot-proofing a phone is that you lose a lot of flexibility.

Also, I find it funny that someone would think Iphone4 is for "out of the box" people. It's certainly marketed that way, but I doubt every Tom, Dick and Harry would have one if that was the case. In reality, it's made to be as simple as possible, with the following limitations: the flash problem, Apple must approve Apps on its platform and you're given very little breathing space in terms of customizing the phone. I think it's probably the easiest phone to use, and I can appreciate that, however, it is done by severely limiting out-of-the-box possibilities.

I don't like itunes and I don't like that Apple clearly creates unnecessary markets for products which it has thought of already. There's always an Apple adapter, charger, headphone, app, etc that you absolutely NEED to even take a stroll outside-the-box. If you have an iPhone, you don't just by the phone, you are paying Apple with every single thing you do, and if you don't agree with their taste in apps or pricing, tough luck.

Despite my rant, I think it's a very good phone. I just think it should be recognised for what it is: good hardware, limited OS software, extremely user friendly, fantastic screen. I'm not willing to pay a premium for that, because I can't say with a straight face that iphone's overall score exceeds all phones. I also don't like the lack of competition from third-party manufacturers for adapters, batteries, memory, etc.

On a more personal level, I don't like buying anything which is sold identically in humongous quanities such that if you look around, there are tons of people with the same phone. Iphone sold 91% more phones than the same quarter last year - that means almost twice the number of people. Bleh.

All you have to do is plug in the phone and drag and drop your music files onto it. No need for any iTunes syncing.

Hello, first time poster here.

I have the option of getting an iphone4 or a HTC Desire HD from work.

Now as my user name suggests I know next to nothing about phones or technology.

I'm going to be using it primarily as a phone (crazy that), texting, taking pictures, checking email (private & work, but not sending any via my phone, as I'll do that in the office), checking Facebook and looking at the odd internet site. Some kind of sat nav would also be good for finding my way to new clients address'. I can charge it every night, but I would like the battery to last out a normal day (say 16-17hours). I'll also have this phone for 2years.

I have no idea what "os" or "ios" is, or the difference in having 3 axis or whatever.

Can somebody in plain English help me in deciding what phone I should choose?

In my opinion and I am no phone expert, the best thing you could do is go and have a look at each phone and decide which one you prefer.

Both phones you mention are more than capable of offering what you have requested and much more so it really does come down to personal choice.

You'd have to go to shop and see both yourself. The DHD and iPhone 4 are both brilliant devices - obviously there are fanboys of each but ultimately both Apple and HTC made some awesome handsets. If you like to have greater customisation options, 7 home screens which you can fill with widgets to the stuff you use the most, to get a FREE sat nav and large, comfy screen then go for the DHD.

If you want a simplicity and to be a little bit more on the iWave then go for the iPhone.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm going to have a look at them both today.
It's just nice to get a heads up on what things to look out for with them.

I'm currently edging towards the DHD, but the iphone is catching up, after what I'm hearing off other people I know.

Browsing = better experience on DHD.

Sat-Nav = DHD.

Camera = iP4/DHD, iP4 will produce cleaner images.

Apps = iP4, hands down.

Usability = iP4.

Flexibility = DHD, hands down.

Battery = iP4 technically.
