@ Lekky I just read through this thread to page 4 and noticed you're in Manchester, so am I can't you just pimp my phone over a beer instead :D

Hey all, thanks for the great tips in this thread (and forum).

I'm also an ex-iPhonerd who migrated over to the Desire.. And man, how did I not do this ages ago? What a revelation!

I just wanted to try add in a tip if I could, to give something back.

In regards to the phone dialing numbers etc itself when in your pocket, I use a lock code thingy so haven't had this happen.
But I did install this app anyway:
Call Confirm - Android app on AppBrain

It's called Call Confirm, and whenever you click a person's name to phone them, it pops up asking if you definitely want to make the call.

May be worth an install if this is your sort of thing.

Have a look at that site too while checking the link. You can download and install via the site. Pretty amazing. I dunno how safe it is though...

Hi guys just got me a desire today an awsome ph! installed maps brut thanks for posting that is awsome, does it use data, or can it be used offline?

I have an icon in the top left of the screen.

Its a little arrow point down to a straight line. I don't know what it is or how to get rid of it.

It's been there since last night, when OH thought it would be a great idea to start downloading apps!

That just means that the app you have purchased has finished downloading and is now installing.

Guys, (hope this is an ok place to post a Q in) is there a way of password protecting or encrypting media files like videos or pics? I like to show my pics and vids off but the Mrs might hit me with a brick if she saw some of the things I got up to

I've found that if you want to use an mp3 as a ringtone and haven't used the folder method described previously , you can do this:
Open Astro app
Find the tune you want
long press on it
choose music options
choose set as ringtone.
It will then stay in your list of default phone ringtones even after you change it.

Hope this is useful to somebody.

Is it at all possible to remove the clock/time for the status bar? Kind of see it as being pointless considering there is a clock on the home screen.

Think I got rid of it by pressing and holding then dragging down to the bottom of the screen where it says REMOVE.

Did the same with the weather thing, as I use Accuweather.

Unh.

The time that is displayed across the status bar at the top?

You can put the phone to sleep by briefly pressing the power button.

In order to use the phone again you have to press the power button briefly, AND then slide the screen unlock bar.

Two actions when only one should suffice. Any ideas how to disable the screen lock/unlock?
