Root HTC EVO Design 4G - All Carriers - Root guide

I have been working on this for about 7 hours. I got phone unlocked and rooted and have cellular signal but does not connect to network.
Have I done something wrong or have I missed something?

to Savage Shadow, thanks for this thread. I was able to root my phone and install clockworks and the kernel and rom, but had a problem not my phone does not play you tube. it plays on wifi but not on boost signal. I can look for everything, but when I find it. it does not play.

it says: connection to server lost, touch to retry.

It's the Rom your running ask about the problem in its thread maybe its a bug.

Hello all... i've rooted many other phones before, and have to say this is one of the easiest... thanks for writing up such a detailed guide, i know this had to of taken lotta time... :)

after i flashed the rooted ph44img file, the phone booted up fine... setup wireless as static, and it worked good... then i rebooted the phone and thats when wireless started giving me probs... it connects to the router fine, but i cannot access the internet with any of the apps (internet browser, google play, etc)... i can use "FXR WiFi fix" from google play and after a reboot and re-enter my wireless profiles, wifi works untill i reboot the phone again...

i can ping my pc from the phone, and other way around but not any sites/ip addys outside my network... i can access a file server on my network using ES File Manager, also can access my private website if i enter the local ip addy to it...

if i tinker around some more, i can turn off wifi and go to google play and let it load through 3g, once its loaded the first page i can turn wifi back on and then i can access google play with wifi, but no other apps... i can do the same with the internet browser, let the browser load any page with 3g, then turn on wifi and the browser will work with wifi... and so on with the rest of the apps... if i reboot then i'd have to do it all over again...:/

i have 2 different wireless routers, it does the same on both of them... i've tried connecting to a different wireless hotspot using DHCP, and still the same...

some of the other forums say its a bug in the htc firmware... i would just like to know if anyone here is familiar with this, and/or might know a better work around than using "FXR WiFi fix" due to all the rebooting and repeatingly setting up the wifi profiles...

PS sorry to hear about your phone, shadow... hopefully something works out for ya...

Found a fix: Using a static wifi connection, change the subnet mask to 32... Which represents 255.255.255.255... I did this on 2 different phones using this root method and kingdom rom, with flawless wifi... :)
Doing lotta research, this seems to be a common problem with sence 3.6...

Do I make a folder called PH44IMG and extract them there then load them on hboot? I tried it with and without on hboot doesn't work.

on fastboot I tried the recovery img but doesn't work either

Nevermind, I got my phone exchanged for a new one.

You don't need to make a folder you just need to extract the img out of the zip and stick it on your sd card but not in any folders. then boot into recovery to flash it..

On phone, with wireless turned on... Hold down on the network you are connecting to, select modify... Check option "show advanced options"... If you're using DHCP, select that and switch to Static... In there enter 32 for Subnet Mask...

If you're not familiar with static/manual ip settings, try googling - how to setup static network...

OK. Found it and yea I'm familiar. But here's the thing. I see IP addy, gateway, network prefix length, and DNS one and two. That's it. No box for subnet? So missing somthin here. ? TY ++ wait got it. NPL is subnet??That's it?? ? Thanks for your help man. I'm good now.

Sorry.... It's labeled, Network prefix length...
24 = 255.255.255.0
32 = 255.255.255.255

I normally use 255.255.255.0 for all my other devices, but just changing this to 32 on phone only everything still works...

Rooted and cwm installed. installed busybox too, maybe that was it? evrything is good but for one major problem. error in settings says disconnected because service is unavaliable? Think i might have read this somewhere. trying to find it. any help would be appreciated,, Thanks WOW this is wierd. it just came back on after phone went to sleep for a minute..HUH? Oh well, had me scared..

i got the message invalid bootloader token length. the submitted token appears to be the wrong length and wont work please help.thank you

This is a great, very thorough guide. It's quite impressive!

I have a weird situation that is just barely discussed in one of 2fast's posts and I want to confirm. I have a Sprint Evo Design running ICS. I have unlocked the bootloader through htc's dev site.

I want to use this phone IN THE U.S. on a PREPAID GSM carrier. Can that be done, or is the radio locked to Sprint? Does anyone know of a site that can help me unlock it? I see these websites like htcsimunlock.com, but am unsure if that will fix the "Sprint Control" problem. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Perhaps I'm dense, but would appreciate some assistance. I have Sprint EVO Design 4G and I simply want root. I don't need/want a custom recovery. All I need is superuser access so I can run titanium backup and wifi hotspot.

I know how to use the token to unlock the bootloader.

From there, I'm not sure I understand the guide. It says for root only access to proceed with the steps but only for Boost Mobile.

How do I get JUST root on a Sprint device and keep my existing ICS install otherwise stock?

i was able to flash the cm 10 rom posted but i dont have any google apps. i cant even sign into my google account. i wanna go back to sense and i will stick to that. any ideas on returning to stock ics on boost mobile will help.

like when i say there is no google apps i mean nothing at all. i go settings and accounts and ther isnt a google account access point. sure hope someone can help me. i tried to be cool and ended up messing up my phone hahaha. i gotta do more research on this type of stuff.

I have followed the steps and direction to the best of my ability. I downloaded everything but I get getting suck on step 5 on the HTCDev page. I found my the SDK Manager but when I click it it says:

Failed to execute tools\android.bat:,error 2
The system cannot find the file specified.

C:\Documents and Settings\l014863\My Documents\Downloads\adt-bundle-windows-x86\adt-bundle-windows-x86\sdk\tools\lib is where I had to go to get to my SDK Manager.

I have a Evo Design 4g on boost running 4.0.3 and Im using my computer at working running XP.

Hi I just began to start the root but when clicking on the link to root and put this on my SD, the page redirects to a page saying DROPBOX - 509. "This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!" Do you have a link to send me so I could finish? everything has worked great so far! I unlocked and now just need to finish and root. please help????? thank you so much.

I'm leaving my Prevail (CTMod) just ordered a new Evo for Boost. Planning on rooting first thing.
I was looking at 2fast's utility tool.. anyone have any experiences with it?

Or is this the best method to root?

Advice for a Evo Noob?
