Root HTC EVO Development coming to an End???

I have a question for you guys and it deals with the development of roms, kernals and anything that deals with rooting your evo for that matter, is it slowly dieing? I understand that people are going to get an upgrade and move on from the EVO but i've noticed that the xda and this forum doesnt have nearly as much activty as it used to... anyone else notice it or am i just crazy?

The evo is coming to the end of it's lifespan I think. At least as far as people being obcessed with it anyway. I think that the hard core devs have moved on to stuff like the leaked e3d so that they can be ready with something close to launch. The e4g forums are flooded with buggy releases right now imo because everything that could be done has already been done.

mikg will last me until I get my e3d later this month and I'll probably also leave it on the phone when I give it to my mom after upgrading. It really seems like it's just about as good as it can be.

i do not think that the devs are moving on. there are a group of devs right now working on the latest ota. we have devs who have put out beta's for roms with sense 3.0. fresh just put out his new rom. one of the great things about our phone is that there is a huge dev. community for our phone. i think right now with the latest ota more great roms will be pouring out soon. and once we have e new exploit for the new hboot, more people will root their phones. so i think we have awhile before the dev community dies down for this phone.

Agreed +1.

There are devs still working on the Hero! I just saw a new rom drop for that the other day. Probably going to load that on to the wife's piece. :D

The dev community is rather large for the evo. Will it slow down? Absolutely, with the 3D and other new devices comming out how can it not. But I don't think it will die off any time soon, this thing is only a year old!

Just my opinion if I'm wrong you can say I told you so.

Established devs will move on ....newbies learning will continue to tinker.

I have said repeatedly said I had no interest on a new phone but if mine keeps acting up I will be after Sprint to replace it....and I won't accept another EVO this time :(

I hope they don't slow down too much. I'm not going to upgrade this year because I just rooted and 4G just came into my area. (I may upgrade my wife's EVO to the 3D so we'll see).

It will be natural to slow down but the EVO 4G is still selling very well. A price drop brings new customers and new rooters.

Like everyone has said. It's only natural that with the E3D coming that more development will come to future HTC models. I probably won't be leaving my EVO (infact, I plan on getting an additional one for safe keeping) until maybe another EVO 2 comes out (I don't agree with going from 8MP down to 5MP). It has been fun though but I think we now need to take inventory of all our favorite roms and archive them for constant nostalgic EVO Romming.

I don't think you're crazy, but I think you may be underestimating. I see more and more GB ROMs, more than last week, and IMO, more on the way. The Evo is very popular with a lot of devs. I'm currently previewing Synergy nightlies, a co-op experiment among some very talented devs featuring most of Sense 2.1 and some of 3.0. Not the fastest ROM, but very smooth, lots of eye candy, and for me, everything works. It's not overclockable yet, but once some compatible kernels come along, this could be a pretty cool ROM (this from a guy who prefers AOSP). I think we'll see more of these projects to follow.

If the E3D ships with an encrypted bootloader, it would substantially limit dev access to the guts of that phone. IMO, that would refocus attention on the Evo until that situation resolves (if at all), and/or the GS2 releases.

It's all speculation, but the Evo packs a decent chunk of power for a year old, not quite obsolete single core phone. You may be right and I may be wrong, but I don't think it's time to write off Evo development just yet.

Just my .02
