Root htc evo stock kernel?

Cryptzor

Newbie
Hi i am new to this,
But i rooted my evo, bassically to just overclock.
So i used this kernel i found called bakedsnack that overclocks your phone.
I now want to get the newly released gingerbread that came out earlier in the weak.
I want to know how i get rid of bakedsnack and unroot my phone.
If i could get some help on this that would be awesome.
Thank you

I think i just flashed the kernel.. and not the rom... so how do i remove the rom xD
Also how do i unroot, i rooted with unrevoked.
I think the root is stopping me from geting android 2.3

I cant install anything from android market.. it gives download error... and bye bye battery life please help =[ I also want gingerbread =[

I have flashed baked snack kernel on my phone and i wanna get rid of it and go back to out of box stock kernel before i get rid of root and download the gingerbread update. However i cannot seem to find that. Any help please?

look over at xda? why do you want to unroot? why dont you just flash the stock rooted version?

like people are saying before dont accept the ota. you will loose root and will not be abe to root for awhile now. and if you do decide to unroot and accept the ota, it will automatically install the stock kernel so there is no need to flash to a different kernel.

I don't want root anymore, i would just like to know how to unroot... and go back to how it was stock. It was just fine that way. Plus i'll have the real updates for gingerbread and sence ui

If you go to the Rooting for Dummies guide in the "After Rooting" section, there is a heading called "unrooting". It contains the instructions and files necessary to unroot.

That said, the rooted rom updates that Nox linked you too ARE the real updates but rooted so that we don't have to give up the freedom on our phones to have them at what Sprint/HTC call up to date. There are roms that FAR surpass what they allow us to have. IMO, if it was "fine" stock then you never explored the potential of your phone. If you have any issues unrooting, feel free to ask for help. Sorry to see you go back to stock but it is your phone and your choice of course.

I just hate this kernel i have, i would do that if i could get rid of this kernel.
Also if i were to do that i would like the new sence is there a rom for that and gingerbread? that is updated.

There are custom roms that have Sense 2.1 and 3.0 in them. HTC did not include anything but Sense 1.0 in the release for the Evo. If you want to run anything but Froyo 2.2, you will be stuck with the stock kernel for the time being. Froyo roms(Sense and AOSP) have a variety of kernels to chose from to give you better battery life and performance. Look here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html for links to the current roms. Mikg and Kings newest release are both Sense 2.1 with 3.0 elements. They are only running the stock kernel so we can not tweak battery life on them that way yet.

What kernel are you running currently? What rom are you on?

The evo did not get the new sense update OTA fyi

I decided to unroot i ran into a problem STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
What does root of my sd card mean?

root of the sdcard is the top level, put it on your sdcard not in any folders

I did that but it didnt do this STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.

The Device will check for the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the newly introduced update. Press VOL UP = YES or VOL DOWN = NO.
Once Completed, press VOL UP to reboot.

YOU HAVE JUST BEEN UNROOTED! BAM!

So i just installed it, and updated it manually i believe so i should be unrooted.. not sure im testing it with the ota update.
I also was told that the ota update will automatically update my kernel to what stock is and update it.
I hope that is true.

The ota isnt done but i still have superuser on my phone..... so i think im still rooted sighhhh this is such a horrible process lol been two days.

If it does successfully update, you will have the new kernel also. You will also have a new hboot which currently is not rootable. Reboot to hboot to check and make sure you have s-off and your recovery is no longer Amon or Clockwork(whichever you had)

Like I said, it isn't necessary to do this just for the OTA and the new kernel.

What steps have you taken to get unrooted thus far? I assume you flash the s-on tool already.

It did not unroot =[ the ota unsucessfully downloaded.
So that last step did not work.
so how do i put it in the root of my sd card like is there a picture or something or more details on how i can do that right so when i go into recovery it updates automatically like it should..
