HTC Gingerbread update.

Yes, I was talking to the TECH Department because my DHD had lost its GSM capability...

Received a NEW replacement the next day and I used the opportunity to ask about the update...
just a sec I will see what notes are on the system HE SAID...
And the reply was... 2.3 will be released according to the system on or just after 8th May 2011.

But, like all the news I have seen it says June.... So lets see if ORANGE-UK have got there dates correct... or should i say YEAR :-)

Have you personally spoken to someone from Orange? This could be promising news :)

If you've just installed, have you really had that much of a chance to have a play about?

One of the big things is improved power management I think so it will be interesting to see what difference it makes there (if any). You're not really going to be able to test that from a few hours usage.

Good point! Unplugged from power and going to give it some abuse =)

There are cosmetic changes, seems to run alot "smoother" and as for battery life, it has definately improved! :D

Good news on the battrery life but I've no real complaints, just want more .....
Any sign of a 'changelog' at all with the ROM? Notice any bluetooth fixes/additional capabilities, for instance?

Ta.

When it eventually arrives, will I have to reconfigure all my widgets etc. I use Go Launcher and Widgetlocker. I can backup my Go Launcher config so that will be easy enough to sort, but will I need to configure Widgetlocker again?

It will be like getting a new phone, everythings reset to factory preset. Although, most if not all my apps were still available.

Been playing round with it for about a day now after spending a day trying to make a new goldcard (don't ask), and I have found Gingerbread to be a much smoother and responsive experience! Definitely worth the wait! Haven't noticed much in terms of other changes, but that is enough for me!

Still a bit disappointed that there hasn't been a fix for the GPS, mine still practically does not work at all compared to my Original Desire which would connect in a matter of seconds.

Wonder if your phone is ok, have had mine about 4 weeks now. drove across London with the gps at the weekend and it never lost contact once, was very impressed

Yeah I was thinking that it may be something to do with being from a dodgy batch, but then I read that there are a lot of people who are having issues with the gps on DHD's, so I just assumed it was a bug that would be fixed with an update. So far, this hasn't been the case and I guess I must not be that bothered as I could have sent the phone back by now... although there's still time. :-)

I still have the SMS bug where you get a force close when you try to go into drafts and even the inbox sometimes, had to move to SMS Go. GPS is fine though.

Anyway back on topic, i really wan't that new sense UI as well as gingerbread but they already said the DHD is not compatible even though it has pretty high specs.

I should add that my phone is sim free I don't know if that makes a difference
