Help .: HTC Incredible :. Known Issues / Bug Reports / Hardware Issues

I also concur with the LED only flashing for 5 minutes when you get a new text message, then it stops. Timed it and everything after reading the issue. Hopeully that gets fixed with an update, not a huge issue, but not good either. The notification light should flash forever, or at least for a lot longer.

Another one I noticed, and can anyone else test and confirm?

I set 3 alarms last night for 5 minutes apart to wake me up this morning. I set a different sound to each one, but they all played the first ones sound only. I'll test it again.

1. I think that the amoled direct sunlight viewing problem should be removed because as almost everyone that has their Incredible has said, it's not a problem. And actually no worse than other phones.

2. The battery door, nor phone feels cheap to me. The phone is very light but feels very sturdy and not cheap imho. But, as this is just opinion, this is not something that can be "resolved" or "confirmed"

3. The bar signal meter seems to be inaccurate as the decible meter shows more accurate signal. Signal so far on my Inc has shown very, very low but always have had amazing call reception and 3G data rates. And I am usually in lower signal areas with any phone. Also, there might be a cure for this and the battery here:
http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-incredible/70506-gsm-vs-cdma-battery-life.html

4. As for the battery life, it's the only REAL problem I have found so far. Had to charge mine halfway throught the second day with very minimal use. I'm currently on my fourth charge with this phone and it seems to be getting much better. Don't know it it's because the battery is getting conditioned or because of some of the widget differences I'm running now. I am no longer running HTC's "Friend Stream".

hope they fix this with a update or something. i will miss emails & messages because of this

Search the market for Gmail Notifier. Works great on my Eris. There are multiple options, one of which is to setup repeating alerts for gmail.

Also, I use Handcent instead of the stock messaging. It allows for repeating alerts for sms/mms. It has tons of other options, including popup messages over the lockscreen.

Got mine yesterday and it is screaming compared to the choppy performance of my Eris. My email for work, which is IMAP, will not go past the incoming server settings page. It just grinds a little and the same page is there. All the settings are correct, it's just not giniving me the certificate message. I am going to verizon when I get back from vacation because if I can't set up my work email, then the phone goes back. I hope this isn't the case, because it kicks ass in every other way.

My screen moves left by itself as well. Pain in my ass.

Take it back I had the same problem and I thought it was an application I downloaded but after a couple of hard resets it was still messin up I went to best buy and showed the Verizon rep they had there and he said ya I had a defective unit. Now that I got a new phone I haven't seen it move on its own yet

Since I got my Incredible Thursday I've experienced very poor call quality. Most calls sound very bad, with little "scuffs" happening during the call, audio cutting out for a second, and just all around poor quality. Brought it into the Verizon store the unmotivated technician claimed she couldn't reproduce or hear the issue and will not give me a new phone.

i've had mine for like 4 or 5 days now and it did this once. it hasn't done it since that one time so i don't think i will take it back but if it becomes a problem i will exchange it.

The radio reception issue seems real (at least from an empirical standpoint). Go to a Best Buy with a live Droid display and compare the dB readings and download some of the larger free apps to test the Droid and Inc. Just like when I tested my Droid (returned- keeping Inc for now), the BB demo showed significantly stronger dB readings and was slower downloading the larger apps. The Lexington BB showed 4 bars for the Droid and 1 for the Inc. dB readings were about 30% different and in favor of Droid.

The mobile team at the Lexington BB were equally surprised and interested in the test comparison. I will keep the Inc and see how much I will miss the game emulators (most games are not very playable with touch screen, compared to Droid KB) and see if the weaker radio reception can be improved.

Update:

Most people will not notice a problem, since I think the "issue" may be that the Inc's radio reception is average and the Droid's is amazing and with not may equals. In other words, Inc radio may be normal for it's hardware and there is no problem. I would not have noticed, since I come from Tmo and their coverage and 3G sux. Droid radio rocks hard and compared to Tmo, Inc's does too :)

i had the droid and constantly monitored the signal dB level throughout my house, i'm getting the same, if not better with my inc. but mine works great.

I also am finding questionable reception vs. my (former) blackberry. And I am travelling between NYC and Philly, so there are plenty of towers. Not sure if the problem is the radio, or a firmware/sw problem One observation: When I am getting 4bars of cell strength, starting a call drops the indicated strength to two bars. Similar issue with 3 going to 1 and 2 to zero. Could it be that the voltage to the radio is affected when other other circuits/functions are triggered? Anyone else seeing this?

Bummer if reception is low - I love it otherwise. (however I am VERY envious when browsing BestBuy and looking for cases or other accessories. None for Incredible and multiple areas - not just rows, for the iPhone.)

Ignore the bars - they are mostly meaningless. Focus on actual reception versus another phone. At minimum, ancedotal reports on performance in known difficult areas in comparison with other "known" phones will be helpful to those who are specifically interested in radio performance.

I can go into a "field test" mode on my Motorola phones, and pull up a debug screen on my WM phones. Both let me see the actual received signal strength (RSSI) along with the SID, radio band, and channel among other things. I Googled and found system calls for seeing the RSSI, but I didn't see any apps. Is there a built-in function to see this information on Android or the stock phone app?

there seems to be a issue with the LED notification, can anyone confirm this?

---
Ok, I think I got this mail LED figured out, but anyone else with an Incredible and double check on theirs.

When the phones checks for new email and downloads it, the LED light will flash for 5 minutes and then turn off. Then at the next interval when the phone checks again (5min, 10min, 15min etc) it will blink the LED again for 5 minutes.

So for example....
Say you have the phone set to check your email every 30 minutes.
At 8:00am it checks the email and downloads a message.
The LED will flash for 5 minutes from 8:00-8:05am and then turn off.
At 8:30am it will check again for email.
The LED will flash again for 5 minutes from 8:30-8:35am because you still have unread mail.
This LED cycle will continue until you go into the mail program and read the message.

This also would apply to any amount of time you have it set to check.
I've had mine set to check for email every hour. That is why I would never see the LED flash, because it would only turn on for 5 minutes every hour to notify there is unread email.

I'm not sure why they have it setup this way.
I would prefer the LED to flash non-stop until I go into the program and read the email. Not just for 5 minutes.

---------------------

For my work IMAP (push) email, the LED does the same thing as with POP, but it appears the push is not working, and it will only poll the account.

------------------------

For GMail the push does seem to work OK as emails show up right away. The LED will flash for 5 minutes and turn off.

------------------------

For incoming SMS/MMS messages, the LED will only flash for 5 minutes and turn off.

this is an accurate summation of the problem...it would be preferable to have the light flash until the message is viewed (can that tiny, not-very-bright LED consume that much power?)

I have also had a few instances of the home screens randomly jumping back and forth. Locking the phone and letting it sit for a minute tends to take care of it but I'm thinking it's related to the optical joystick so I'm going to try and fiddle with that a little next time it happens. If it becomes a more prevalent issue then I'll take it back to the store for an exchange.

My screen slide/flashing issue was fixed by removing "Reader Widget Pro". I noticed that every time the screen slid or flashed, the program title at the top was the reader widget. Program gone, problem gone!

My phone is having this issue as well. Right now it's just "annoying", but if it gets worse, I'll too take it back.

Anyone know if you can disable the optical joystick? (Without rooting...)

i'm in philly area and have had reception issues where I never had them before with my blackberry. call quality been terrible so far

:( I live in the Chicago South Suburbs, I've read everyones comments regarding signal strength and pretty much everyone agrees that the phone is possibly simply not reporting the correct signal strength.Well I've been with verizon for 15 years and coming from an LG enV touch to a Motorola Droid and now the HTC Incredible... My 3g service was always Fantastic on my LG, Then I upgraded to the Motorola Droid and it was pretty good but the LG was better and now I own the HTC Incredible. When I switched to the Motorola Droid my biggest complaint was people complainning that my voice sounded muffled, I complained to Verizon and they offered no solution other than returning the phone but I COULDN'T do it, I fell in love with the android operating system and the speed of the phone but compared to my friends Iphone 3gs the phone lacked in allot of areas but was the best phone Verizon offered at the time, I was patiently waiting for their next FLAGSHIP phone and didn't expect one to come so soon, now I own the HTC Incredible and although this phone is (INCREDIBLE) in many ways, the signal strength truly sucks!!!!!!!!!! even when i'm at home on wi-fi the signal is 3 bars at its highest, (THE MOTOROLA DROID WAS ALWAYS FULL STRENGTH ON WI-FI) Once again, there isn't a damn thing I can do about it!! because i'm otherwise in love with this phone and just wont and can't go back to my Moto Droid (Besides I sold it) This phone seems to function pretty quickly even at 1 bar, so I guess I can somewhat agree but it is jumping to 1x in areas that my motorola never did and in 1x this phone CRAWLS Anyway I think we do have a RECEPTION issue but until we stop making excuses for this phone simply because we all otherwise love our new toy, I fear it will never get resolved. ANYWAY my 2 cents

My charger is bad. During the last 7% of the charge the charger has a high frequency squeal. I'm getting 3.5 hours of awake time consistently with pretty much everything turned off. Verizon is going to replace it.

Also in philly at the navy yard, I have 1 bar in my building but call quality to cell phones is fine. My issue is when I call my wifes work line if she whispers it drops/garbles her voice. If she talks normal I hear her fine... I don't know if this is a phone issue or her work line issue. It may clip sounds lower than a certain level that is causing the drop if she whispers.

Also of note... with 1 bar -0 bars I still have 3G coverage in philly. Occasionally at 0 Bars i will start with 3G and do some web or downloading and within a few minutes it will drop to 1X. Outside of my building I haven't had problems though.

Main problem for me is email. I use Gmail and want to be able to send email from separate accounts, like you can online. This is a MAJOR failure, and pretty sad when you consider this is a Google centric phone aimed at communication.

Really? Mine lets me switch between my two accounts. Just has to be done before you type it to send. On mine it sends from which ever one I have selected first.

In Gmail App - Hit Menu - Accounts - then select the account you want to send from.

So what apps do we think we cannot see on the Incredible? Played with one at work today for a while and everything I use worked on there. What can I look at for you guys?

And I'm sure the apps will be updated to look for internal storage when the phone is officially released.

I have downloaded three seperate mp3 apps on my Incredible, including music junk and music wizard but neither of them will download any mp3's the all say failed or has incorrect sysmbols. tried several different songs as well with no change. Any ideas?
