HTC Inspire Battery Experiences...

ok i'll join in..i only had my phone 5 days. The battery looses all power after 5 hours and I'm not even using internet. I let it sit there yesterday and only took one call and the little bar moved. Looks likke it's good for 3 hours if you want to use it for talk and internet. Can I buy a off brand battery that says it fits a htc inspire and it will still be ok and not hurt phone. Cellshop has them marked down to $15 or $20.

I did notice that a lot of people boasting about great battery length on a single charge didn't have much display percentage.

I'm not really all that worried, but I just saw where a few people talked about amazing results with more active than I have on my phone.

Yesterday I had the phone on a lot. Not really doing much but just playing around an moving stuff around and I bet the display usage was up to 85% at one point.

I'm very confident that as you continue to use your phone and set it up to your preferences, it will only get better. When one approaches it from a positive and open minded position, the results are excellent.

Rather than guess, or jump to conclusions, let's give this phone a chance.

Upon unpacking the phone it should be charged fully. Most people skip this step. Regardless, at this point my suggestion is to use it till the battery is down to between 10% to 15%, no lower. Then plug it into the charger and charge it overnight. Use it the next day or for however long it takes to run it down to the same range again.

Repeat this five times, no fewer. At this point you should begin to evaluate how the battery is doing. If you are still having a problem your battery will be replaced free under warranty.

Do not under any circumstances buy a non HTC battery.

They were already set to recommended settings based on my knowledge of power usage. That's part of my issue.

I do think it kinda sucks that we can clearly relate the shortened issue to the screen usage, but how else am I going to use the phone.

Like I said, I love the phone. I have no problems charging it at my desk or whatever or in the car, but I highly doubt I'm ever going to get more than 7 or 8 hours out of it with moderate usage.

First Post!

Got my Inspire yesterday (12th). Fully charged last night.

Unplugged from charger 8am this morning. I planned on doing the complete discharge and recharge cycling (as recommended in the manual . . . ). Thunderstorm wallpaper installed to burn that energy.

Switched off bluetooth and wifi while at work. Set display at about 40%. Played with the phone when I had the opportunities - email, facebook, apps, playing with customization and scenes. I took the charger to work so I could charge up after the 5 hour battery death that I have read about so much . . .

Anyway, after playing with the phone for most of the day and evening (wifi on at home), it was still showing more than 30% battery at 10:30pm. So I turned the display to 100% with no time-out, played music, surfed the web, downloaded apps, played Angry Birds, went through every menu I could find, switched off the power saver, etc. Eventually, at 12:20am after being unplugged for more than 16 hours, and with much heavier than my normal phone use, it died.

It has now been recharging for 50 minutes and is at 50% charge.

This is my experience. Yours may vary . . .

Onmitsu.

...clip...give my new Inspire a full charge cycle without interruption. ...clip...
I DID NOT charge out of the box and instead sucked all the battery that came with the phone out of it without letting it turn off and then turned the phone off to enjoy a full charge cycle back to 100%. BTW, I turned the phone back on around 730 last night (after the full charge cycle). I have not had to put it back on the charger yet. So almost a full 24 hours has passed, on one full charge, with a 7 hour moderate use and a 9 hour standby session through the night and im still at almost half a full battery indication.

I wil say that if the last 24 hours or so is any indication of the phones battery capabilities ill be fine in the coming months with this phone. I also highly suggest any new buyers to try this process

So,
is this a good practice to do every so often with our Inspires?

That is from time to time to drain it all the way down to nothing and then charge it all the way back up while off to 100%?

I just got my Inspire about a week ago, and I use it a lot. And it's really only last me about 5 hours before is almost dead. I have a lot of the setting turned down, my screen is at like 30%, and I have the app killer so things in the background don't just keep running. But I just order a bigger battery off amazon that 1600Mah that fits for the inspire. It had 6 reviews on it and all were 5 stars for giving the inspire a longer battery life by at least 50%. So if I can't get at least a good 8 hours of heavy use out of it with the new battery I will be happy. The battery was only 30 bucks with free two day shipping.

Can you share the link to that battery on Amazon?

Was it a BRAND NAME battery or a generic?

I bought several generics off Ebay, and they charge to about 930mAh, yet claiming they are 1600mAh batteries.

hey guys...after I had my settings all taken care of stopped "picking at" the phone so much, i'm getting awesome usage out of this phone. I don't know if conditioning the battery helped, but I did condition it and the life of the battery is great now. I used the poop out of this phone monday while I was off with my sick son. It was off charge as of 8 am and heavy usage from 11-5 before it needed a charge. Heavy usage being streaming videos, pandora, birds, paper toss, wi fi, gps, etc etc. But more importantly it was constantly on.

The battery for the Inspire is apparently an Engineering design failure. To expect their customers to manage these work-arounds, and not to have picked this huge issue up in their pre-release testing, is very worrisome.

They cannot expect their customers to be techno-nerds like i am, and some of us, to manage all this stuff to be able to use the product for a day without dying on them.

Probably going to go with Atrix now as much as i hate too.

Update so far.

Took it off the charger at 3:30am. And I have been using it off and no. Very lite for me, today will be the big test since I'm most active during the after noon hours and evening. But my battery hasn't hardly moved tho. :)

Ok so it lasted me about 12 hours with medium use. I'm going to give it a few more days to see if it really does last me longer.

On my new one from Costco.com, the battery has held up since 4:30pm yesterday. i'm around 50%. About 5 calls, 30 mins of browsing, several GPS sessions, downloaded a bunch of apps. This battery I charged for about 10 hours. its the STOCK battery (but its not the same part # as my first inspire. Its a 36H00141-00M (instead of 35H)

UPDATE! interesting . . .

the 36H00141-00M is the Original OEM battery for the HTC DESIRE HD (Eurpoean model).

the 35H is the OEM for the HTC Inspire.

the 36H seems to have better performance for some reason.

With a terminal emulator, it does have the full capacity of 1230mAh.

I have been in the cellphone business for several years. Here are a few tips.
Although Lithium batteries do NOT have a memory effect like Nicads there is a process to "condition" them initially. Charge them up and let them run down to 20% then charge them again. Do this about three times and see if you have any improvement.

The second thing that you can try is to reset your battery monitoring in the Kernel. IF you don't know how to do that do some research on XDA. Apparently the stats on the battery performance are not updated properly on some ROMS. That would give you false readings on the battery, or even possibly affect the performance.

I stop all Auto Syncing and find that this has a MAJOR improvement on my battery life. If I wanted Push email I would have purchased a Blackberry. Its not big deal to set up the data to work on demand and check for emails manually. That does save a lot of battery and this has worked on lots of different smartphones I have owned over the years.

Everyone in this forum as stated that the Display is a big user of power. What I have done is gotten into the habit of pressing the power button to shut the display when I am not using it. That also makes a huge difference. I've also set the display to use 30% brightness and find that this also has a major impact on battery life.

What I have found is that Android's various processes that run in the background like Live Wallpapers and other auto functioning items eat battery power. These functions do not have to be running all the time. Applications like Real Player and other programs that you would not think eat battery do so. Therefore you should really decide if the apps need to run all the time. Do you really need that app???? Go into System-Applications-Manage Applications and see how many programs are actually running. You could have some rogue process running by an app that monitors your location. When you installed it you may have not noticed what processes it is using.

That is what I have done to improve my battery life. I charge my phone up until 3:00 am or if I notice the green charged indicator is on. Whenever I wake up 8-9 am I turn on the phone. Usually my phone has been syncing Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo automatically and my battery lasts until 6:00 pm at which time I have a 40% charge. That is after taking all of the steps above. I am also going onto websites quite frequently throughout the day, using GPS, and sending emails. So I would consider myself 75% of a heavy user.

ok, i'm giving my Inspire another chance with this battery issue. I HAD decided to dump and go to the Dark Side..

I think the conditioning procedure might be something, but i still say that this smartphone technology is probably in front of the battery technology, and thus this is what we have...

I would NEVER recommend this to a techno challenged person to geek out their phone so they don't have to charge it when they get home from work...

I love my inspire even if that means I have to keep a charger handy then I will. This is by far the best phone that I have had. I'm at home most of the time anyways so keeping my phone charged is not a huge deal, I also have a car charger. So as of right now the battery sucking is something I can deal with.

so the final conclusion is that this generic batteries dont work as you expected? im on the big decision between an atrix and an inspire. the battery issue is the only thing that keeps me thinking all day
