HTC Inspire Battery Experiences...

Went to ATT and got another one, maybe the phone itself is defective, who knows. Because it seems when called out, no one stood up to backup what they said. Typical internet BSers. I'll bet ya don't even have the inspire 4g.

I'll grand your wish a leave, wouldn't want to make anyone look bad to their internet friends who defend them.

We have the inspire and I backed up everything I said. There are more people who have good to great battery life than the few like you. We all told you what to do but until now you refused. Calling us out like a little kid in the parking lot. If youbwant help you don't act the way you do when people give you advice

Wow, I've been reading posts all over this forum and there seem to be mixed opinions about this phone's battery life everywhere. I really want to get the inspire, but I don't think I can get through my day without at least 7 or 8 hours of battery life.

Haha, will someone please set the record straight!? I'm so torn.

Anyone who expects a phone to last 24 hours with everything on.....should buy a flip phone.

Thanks tony. I tried to tell him that

The kid drives a BMW.. I think that should explain it in itself lol.. You know what they say about BMW drivers..

I turned off GPS and got nearly 17 hours out of my battery today, I honestly can't say I notice much of a difference between my iPhone 4 and this phone. Both can make it through the day, and quite honestly this one does more than what I expected/got the iPhone to do.

You can't please everyone, I'm sure HTC and every other company knows that.

Honestly I tried them both and I would suggest you get yourself an atrix like I did. I LOVE Htc sense but the battery life of the phone just killed me. I got the atrix and wow, all day life with everything on, lowest I ever get is 30% with everything on and playing games. But overall phone is more powerful, better at gaming with new tetra games coming out, and a bit better screen. But motoblur is nasty poop if you are used to sense goodness. I suggest a different launcher or adapting to it. But it is smooth in it's defense, just funky. But either way both phones are good but I prefer atrix for my needs.

I've gotten my Inspire two days ago and quickly rooted it and started flashing so i cant judge stock battery life. But so far i've been using cm7. And i've gotten 17h 43m and im at 18% :) Using it moderatly, Some flash, web browsing, new nightly flashing, angry birds, customizing my homescreen, applying themes. Didn't think of taking a screenshot yet but will on the next go around.

This is pointless. Im taking this phone back. A phone's battery should be able to last at LEAST 24 hrs with every option ON! Not bragging about how people some how eeked 24 hours out of it turning everything off. I'm not alone here, I am in contact with 5 others that got our phones at the same time and we all get about the same dismal battery life (6-10 hours) the only one I know that is happy with his battery life went with the 3gs iPhone (what I left).
you do understand that no smartphone will last 24 hours unless its on standby with all radios off, just do yourself a favor and get a flip phone then it will last 24 hours

ok, im on vzw atm with a droid 2 global 1.2 ghz processor and with a 1440mAH battery and i get maybe 4 hours verizon has replaced the phone and battery quite a few times, its a smartphone dont expect a long battery life out of it and that is with brightness at 25%,battery saver mode on, wifi off, made the jump to att and picked out the inspire 4g if it gets more then 4 hours i will be freaking happy as hell

A smartphone is definately NOT for you. Please return it and get you a dumb flip phone!

the first few days I had the Inspire the battery lasted 5-6 hours max with Moderate use. But I think it is finally broken in. I took it off the charger at 11:00am yesterday and at 2:00am when I went to bed I had 26% left. So I'd have to say that's pretty good.

got my inspire yesterday and its working fine with no battery problems works as expected for a big phone with a small battery, got 13 hours out of it

All of my "smartphones" last 24 hours per charge (Nokia N900, Nokia e72 3-4 days, Motorola Q, Motorola Droid 1, and Motorola Defy on AT&T and T-Mo)...but I digress.

For those having poor battery life (I just picked up the Inspire, but not using it on cellular...my girl is using it to play Angry Birds, FWIW after 36-42 hours, battery was only down 2-bars out of 10 in the "Status" area), how much of your day is spent in areas where you have less than "full bars"?

Also, was any kind of conditioning or "break-in" process followed? I've purchased additional OEM, and or 3rd party extended batteries for all of my phones, and "per the instructions from the battery mfg.", allowed the battery to totally drain, from normal use, from full charges, at least for the first few initial charges. Given that process, I've never had problems with a phone lasting at least through 'til the end of the day...constant use being another story however.

Picked up my Inspire yesterday and gave it a full charge at 1900. Couple texts, a good 30 emails, a little web surfing (videos), and a whole bunch of tinkering with settings and screen on. I'm at 50% 1200 the next day.

17 hours ain't bad at all!

Wow, there's a whole lotta hatin' goin' on!

I'll just add that my first inspire's battery was horrible. I took it back, got a new one and stopped the ATT Rep from putting the same battery in the new phone and got a new battery too.

Now I don't turn anything off and I'm going from 7am to 10pm no problem with sometimes 30% left. I do think there are some defective phones or batteries out there, but if you're having problems that are that extreme, just swap it out. You have 30 days from the time you buy the phone.

So how do you set all your syncs to manual,Im not a heavy user by any means but I would like to maximize my battery.

One place to go is in "account and sync" when you go to settings. It should have a bunch of stuff there to set manually, other than that check the settings of your apps any of them that sync should have an option for manual.

There are a million things that 5an be done and a million factors that affect battery. People who say this phone sucks its going back don't want to look at their habits and or options

AndreaCristiano is right, almost. Actually I found a million and ONE... :)

(Just kidding :))

The real key to ANY Android phone with a 4" or larger display is to maximize the phone for best battery life by reading the various tips in this forum, and other resources. Then doing the adjusting and modifying to make it the way you want it.

There is a lot that you can do if YOU take the time and interest in doing it.

Complaining doesn't increase battery life. It only reveals that you have not spent the time to get to know the Android OS and YOUR particular model of phone.

Each of the many Android phones I have return very good battery life, but then again, I have taken the time with each of them adjusting the various settings for that make & model of handset as well as the version of Android it's running.

Here are some common mistakes people make, they apply to all large display phones.

1) Using too high of a brightness setting.

You'd be surprised how much you can turn it down and it's still easy to read.

2) Not adjusting the brightness in the browser (if that's an option) I use a few different browsers and some are adjustable, some are not.

3) Failing to reduce the amount of TIME the backlight is illuminated.

Personally I get in the habit of manually turning it off with the button when I'm done, and I also have it set to a minute in case I forget.

At the end of the day, if you spend some time educating yourself, you will enjoy a huge return on your investment.

^^^ This!! ^^^

I hate when I see people complain of "terrible" battery life. There are a plethora of things that affect battery life, and finding (and adjusting) all of them takes time.

This is from today.

Thats all from settings/applications/battery use.

This is from spare parts battery history.

2 different %'s !?
I have my screen set to 25% all the time. Opinions?

What app is this? I like the battery display on the top right.

I usually get about 12 hrs,and thats with a few calls about an hour and a half most times web browsing, posting on my friend stream and updating it only use facebook, and roughly about 50 texts a day. Is that good or bad just wondering. By the way I would never give this phone up,I love using it.

First, hey everyone....

I've been monitoring the battery details and suggestions on this forum for a couple of days now. I am concerned about my battery, and although its not as bad as some say, I am only get about a "work day" out of it, with limited usage. It was dead in the car ride home yesterday, and I forgot my charger. I've basically been screwing around with settings and playing a few games here and there, checking email, and some texting, but nothing massive.

So, I got a widget that shows percentages. When I turned on the phone it was at 79%, then quickly jumped to 78% (I'm not griping about where it is now. I took the phone off charge at 8:20 am and its now 12:40...but I haven't done much with it). With it at 78% I decided to log in and check words with friends and see if it had updated yet. That took a couple of minutes total. I then logged in to facebook, read a few posts, posted once and logged out. My battery was then at 75%, after only a couple of minutes.

i meticulously manage wi fi and mobil networks. I shut off a lot of the updating apps that one prior poster recommended, such as the ATT Hotspot WISP service and ATT Nav services. I don't have GPS on. My brightness is about 30% (It was lower until about an hour ago). Background data can sync, but no auto syncing at all.

74% display
6% cell standby
6% android system
4% phone idle
3% words free
3% facebook
2%com.htc.launcher
2% Android OS

I just removed app killer too and removed a few stupid games a couple of hours ago.

3% for a few minutes on facebook and words with friends seems a little much to me.

EDIT: I LOVE this phone, and I will make it work, but I just read about people returning phones. I know my battery usage thus far after about 4 hours isn't bad, but 3% with minimal actions for a few minutes is worriesome.

1) First it's important to know that no battery gauge is precise and accurate down to one percent increments. They are designed to be used as a point of reference.

When I view the gauge I think in 5 percent increments. That's a much more reliable way to view the battery level.

Next, it's important to understand that voltage does fluctuate. Therefore the reading will move up and down a percentage or more while using your phone. It's to be expected and it's normal.

2) You're doing all the right things in this area.

3) Smart Move- Never use an App Killer, Android manages its own background processes. In the early days of Android, some unskilled developers created app killers needlessly.

4) As noted above this is perfectly normal.

Finally "Battery Paranoia" is an imagined issue. It is NOT a real problem. Large screened smartphones require more power for the size of the display. It's the single most power hungry component on any phone or laptop. If you experiment with brightness, backlight time on, and other things that draw power, you can maximize your phone and enjoy good battery life.

Never compare to others since there are far too many variables.

I did notice that a lot of people boasting about great battery length on a single charge didn't have much display percentage.

I'm not really all that worried, but I just saw where a few people talked about amazing results with more active than I have on my phone.

Yesterday I had the phone on a lot. Not really doing much but just playing around an moving stuff around and I bet the display usage was up to 85% at one point.
