Help HTC M8 Camera Discussion-Show off your pictures!

First I have heard of the lens getting scratched. I just looked and I see nothing wrong with mine. It was mostly the indoor photos which were blurry, the outdoor photos were very sharp.... just extremely over-exposed.

It is way too easy to scratch that lens. I really wonder why they did not use gorilla glass on one of the most important parts of the phone.

Is it really that hard to scratch? I've been pretty wreck less with my phone, without a case at times, and I don't see a single blemish.

Wild speculation here but, I think they used multiple sources for the camera glass? I think some are easier to scratch than others, so not everyone is seeing the same results?
I was at Sprint comparing their 4 M8 floor displays next to mine and the glass appeared* different on each handset. ---*note: judging by appearance alone
I have the Harman/Kardon M8 and I believe if I'm not mistaken that my camera glass is coated. The main camera sensor and front facing camera glass have an outwardly yellowish/gold hue when reflecting external light sources.
The depth sensor is non-coated and appears to have a different type of glass/plastic.

I like the Gorilla Glass idea, for providing a more robust defense, but I don't want a Gorilla Glass camera sensor glass. I'd rather they use optical glass and an optical coating - even if it means it is more fragile. Too bad we can't have it both ways.

Just get my HTC ONE (M8) few days ago. Here is some photos I take. :) Frank said I find it awesome. It isn't bad as some reviewer said.

Remember when video game fans used to worry about bit counts?

Megapixels will soon be the same afterthought.

This camera is definitely growing on me.... Love being able to play with depth of field :)

Here are a few snaps from my buddy's place.

The first is part of a fountain made from Patron bottles. Maybe another day I'll get the frog on top.

The second is his boat motor. The boat looked fabulous, will have to get a good shot of that another day - too many people in the shot today. Think: sleek - *really* sleek.

Go ahead and enlarge the motor if you like - that chrome isn't burned, it's quite shiny.

Those yellowish marks and stripes - are reflections of the wood in the corrugated tin roof above it.

A little note to you more serious shutterbugs -

We have a thread in the root forum for a mod where we're discussing all sorts of things and among them are the details of sorting out an interesting camera mod -

A raw camera.

And it does not require root.

It installs just like any other app. Once you have it, you'll have two camera apps in your drawer - identical in every way except that the raw one does not store jpg picture files you can view - it stores raw sensor data that you can transform on your PC.

Here's the beginning of that thread where we have it all sorted out and pretty user-friendly -

http://androidforums.com/one-m8-all-things-root/854215-raw-camera.html#post6630688

So if you have Photoshop, you're all set - and if you don't, get GIMP, the free alternative.

A 4 MP camera with 24-bit color would put out a 12 MB rgb image.

Your camera images may be 3 MB or more, but a lot of that is the duo camera data.

And I love the duo camera, I love the effects.

But - if you want just pure photos, then the main image is really half that, about 1 to 1.7 MB - and so, your details are being compressed away on the order of about 10 to 1.

Visit the thread, see if this is for you, and if you already use raw images from your DSLR, this is definitely for you.

Please visit the thread if want the best out of your M8 camera. :)

A picture of some bug munching my girlfriends plants. Took it to try and get a reverse picture search of it.

Taken in manual mode, everything on auto just played about with the focus

Here's one of the photos EM has helped me with. It was taken using the RAW image camera mod he spoke of above, and post processed by him:

View that full size on a large monitor for full effect. ;)

This camera is actually pretty amazing, especially using the RAW capture and post processing. It's absolutely worth the effort getting it set up if you're willing to put in the time. :)

Thank you so much EM for turning me on to this, it's awesome! :D

For a "crappy camera" these don't look bad to me. But what do I know, right?

I've been pleasantly surprised by the camera on the M8. I bring my DSLR with me if I'm going to be taking photos that I want to blow up.... for everything else the M8 does well.

Take a look at the photo of my dog a few post up. Click on the yellow banner above the photo to show it's full size. That photo was taken with my M8.

This camera is really good, it's the software that compresses the photos down to an acceptable size. Remember the duo camera stores additional information beyond the actual photo.

I think with some adjusting this camera can produce high quality print worthy photos.

I'm planning on flashing the camera mod that allows the M8 to shoot in Raw.
