Root Htc one m8 stuck on boot screen

alsowidi

Newbie
help plz, i rooted my htc one m8 and i wanted to delete the root in the device so i formatted the phone ( i like the fast way ) but goes to the recovery mood ( twrp ) then i factory reset the phone throw HBOOT and now the phone stuck on boot screen ( where it show HTC with green color ) , it has been 2 months now trying to solve the problem but i couldn't.

i can go to boot-loader mood by using ( power + valume up then switch fast to valume down )

S-ON

if you have the answer a beg you to help me

I'm not sure what you mean by formatting the phone the fast way, but you probably don't have an OS. Did you relock your bootloader? If not, stock ROMs are available and you should be able to flash them from the bootloader.

What carrier are you on?

Yeah, if you want to unroot you need to use a RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility), which can be run while the phone is in the bootloader. That will flash a new set of stock software. We just need to find the right one for your phone, which is why Chief asked what carrier the phone came from.

If you formatted the system that erased the OS.

It sounds like you made one fatal assumption: that "factory reset" will restore the phone's software. It can't: the phone doesn't waste a couple of GB keeping a backup copy of the OS. What factory reset does is erase all user data and apps, which does leave the phone in factory state if the system software is not modified, but won't undo any modifications to the system.

Moral of the story: don't rush into things! ;)

Fortunately this is fixable :)

its still unlocked and about the career you mean T- mobile , Sprint or At&T.
if so i don't my phone has a career , if you have a way to make sure plz tell me

thnak you so much chief

First off, Welcome to the forums!!! :D

Yes he meant what carrier, we need to know what carrier you are on to get you fixed up. :)

I think the Chief is spot on, you probably erased your OS, so the phone can't boot up.

Could you post up the information on your hboot screen? This could be very useful in helping get you squared away. ;)

i tried earlier to install viper ROM because it says its for all carriers by doing these steps :

putting viper rom in my sd card > put it in my phone > go to hboot mod > enter recovery > from the TWRP clicked on mount so i make sure the sd card is connected > go to install > choose viper zip file to install

then it says on the command list ( E: enable to mount "/ cashe"
and under it with blue color it says successful and when i reboot my phone still stuck on boot screen and when go to Hboot to check on OS its still empty

i donno if its the right way or i used the wrong ROM but i was giving it a try

plz help me

Ok, looks like you've got the European GSM variant. I'll need to go look at a few things and see if I can locate a stock rooted rom for your current firmware. Give me a little time to see if I can figure this out. :)

Viper should work.

First go to where you downloaded the ROM, and find the md5 sum, verify your download is good.

I've been using this PC md5 checker for a while: MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Once you have a workable rom, you can use this md5 checker right from your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sa.afvx

Go back into TWRP, don't mount the SD card.

Go straight to install, select Viper, and follow the instructions inside the AROMA installer. Wipe from the Aroma installer.

Otherwise, I'll continue to try and locate a stock rom for your variant.

For some reason I can't find a stock rooted rom for the international variant. :o

I did however find a thread of stock nandroid backups for folks in your predicament.

We'll need a little more info too:

boot to hboot and use the volume keys to select "fastboot", press power. Then plug the phone into your computer.

Open a CMD prompt from your SDK folder used to unlock the bootloader. Type these commands in and post up the output:

fastboot getvar version-main
fastboot oem readcid

Once we get that, we can determine exactly what stock backup you need, if Viper doesn't load up.

Lastly, did you happen to perform a nandroid backup when you first loaded up your recovery?
Can't believe I didn't ask that question right off the bat.

C:\Users\My pc\Desktop\platform-tools>fastboot getvar version-main
version-main:
finished. total time: 0.002s

C:\Users\My pc\Desktop\platform-tools>fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) cid: HTC__J15
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 0.004s

i had a recovery in the sd card but i accidentally wipe it out
i rooted the throw this guy:
How to Root your HTC One M8 - Full Guide - YouTube

and i downloaded the ROM from this site ( i coudn't find what u asked me to look for ):
Team Venom - Devices & Downloads

Ok, there isn't a stock backup for TWRP recovery for your CID. You should be able to get the device to boot none the less flashing Viper Rom. Try and re-download the ROM, place on the SD card, and re-flash it.

Let us know how that goes, them we'll move on from there. :)

This is a great picture.

It shows the problem.

At the top of your screen it says -

SIMULATING ACTIONS

It is not ok.

That means: do not do anything, just testing.

TWRP (main page) -> Settings

Uncheck any "Simulate..."

When SIMULATING ACTIONS is gone, try the commands again.

Probably, it will be ok and you can flash the rom now.

It's a great video, thank you.

It is ok that zip verification is not checked on rom install.

In your hboot screen, it says S-ON.

I believe that now you have the rom installed but S-ON prevented it from reloading the kernel - that lives inside the boot.img file.

Please give me a few minutes for a download here.

I'm going to advise you on how to get the boot.img over to your phone to solve that problem.

It's a big download. :D :D :D

So, I'll need at least a half hour.

Unless - Granite or KOLIO, I see you're reading - do you have the right boot.img from Viper 1.7.1 handy for the GSM user handy?

Yes, my pleasure to help - because others have helped me. :)

Boot.img is not magic.

Inside your rom zip file is a special file called boot.img.

The phone needs that installed in a special way so that your phone boots up properly.

Normally, we want it just install automatically from TWRP.

But sometimes, the S-ON security feature on the phone prevents the installation - of just that one file.

So, how to fix it is simple.

We unzip the ViperOneM8 zip file on your PC.

Now is the tricky part (that you are waiting on me for) - the ViperOneM8 zip file is a universal installer.

So, instead of just one boot.img file, it has many. That is what makes it a universal file.

We will choose the right one and extract it from the zip.

Then we will copy or move it to the same folder where you have fastboot installed. (Please tell me if you need help and do not have fastboot installed).

Then finally, we will make a fastboot flash boot command to complete the installation with S-ON.

Later, when it is all working, we can give advise for you to try the Sunshine s-off app.

When you have S-ON security status, you have to play this boot.img game.

TWRP will always install it correctly with S-OFF.

But - first we need to make your phone working.
