Hulu Works!!!

There are rumors of a Hulu app for Android being developed by Hulu... While there could be contractual issues to deal with, I'd lean more towards technical ones.

Those rumors were wrong. No one who reported the news about the Google search bothered to look into it. The reason "Google App for android phones" showed up on the hulu labs page as a search result is because that was the title of a thread someone made on the forum.

If Hulu plans to release an Android app, there have been no indications that they are.

Actually... Android phones to get Hulu? - Google 24/7 - Fortune Tech

Sure, not concrete proof - but still interesting.

That's a lot better than what I had seen before which were rumors based on erroneous reporting.

If they are making an App and blocking even flash 10.1 for mobile devices (as it appears they are in another link in that article) that points even more to them wanting to have more control over distribution. If we have to access the content through an app, it may be limited based on which studios negotiate cell phone distribution contracts with Hulu.

Hulu definitely makes concerted efforts to control the distribution of their content depending on the type of device. Playstation 3 and other consoles are also blocked from viewing content on hulu.com despite being technically capable of doing so. I completely believe it is the part of the content distribution deal that inhibits them from allowing content to show up on playstation or mobile devices since that directly competes with some of the content copyright owners, sony for example wants you to buy tv episodes from their playstation store instead of watching them on hulu.

This is a bit off topic but this program called "qik" is quite amazing the quality of live video it can stream FROM the Incredible. Incredible.

I'm not sure why Skyfire can't spoof a user-agent that looks identical to a desktop client. I'm thinking they can and do so hulu must be blocking based on mobile ip ranges?

If this was the case, connecting via WiFi would work, which is does not.

It doesn't matter because all video is rendered through Skyfire's proxies. All Hulu has to do is serve the unsupported error message whenever it detects one of Skyfire's IPs trying to access it.

Thanks to Phandroid.com for the notification. An update to the Skyfire browser enables Hulu TO WORK!!!! (for now until they catch on). Go to the Marketplace for the update and have at it!!! I watched Family Guy! Not bad at all. :p Enjoy it while it lasts...

I got the update last night and went to Hulu first and it didn't work :(

Followed andrew's advice..it went to the SO loading screen, went to 100%, then says "Unfortunately, this video is not available on your pl (cuts off)..apologize for any inconvenience". This was for the newest episode of Family Guy on Hulu

Same exact symptoms after trying multiple short SNL clips.

me either. there are still adds.

The reason why Hulu don't want their website viewable on other devices (AppleTV, cell phones, etc.) isn't down to the advert's.
It's all about the agreement that they have with the copyright owners of all their video content. Their agreement explicitly only permits them to show videos on personal computers and although cell phones are a lot more like computers now, it's not the same.

Therefor if they were to allow Hulu to work on cell phones they would be in breach of their contract and liable to a big lawsuit that would inevitably put Hulu out of business.

That is why [for now] they are trying to stop it from working on other devices.

They are however in the process of creating a new agreement that includes mobile devices and are developing a "Hulu Mobile" app.

Whether or not this is to become a paid for service/app is down to what the copyright owners agree to. Looking at the fact that Fox and other content owners are developing their own mobile app's means that one way or another, you WILL be able to watch your favorite shows on your phone :)

I heard from a friend of mine (new iphone user) that Hulu has an app for the iphone now. Does anyone know of the status of an app for our phone?
