Despite the fact that I haven't posted anything up until now, I've been keeping up with your updates on JB. I really appreciate that you and many others have tried very hard to make this phone stable (ZTE's job really).
I know exactly how you feel about the urge to get rid of this phone. I really hate the idea of buying a new phone less than two years later but this thing is garbage software wise. It has gotten progressively worse for me with constant lock ups and slow downs even with both cores running 24/7.
Looking at Freedompop again I see that its plans are a lot better than what they were a while back. I might actually switch, thanks for the indirect tip. Anyway, I think that you shouldn't waste any more time on this device unless you're positive that you're close to a major breakthrough. Good luck.
I have had my wife and son on freedompop's totally free plan for awhile now and it's perfect. 200 minutes, 500 texts, and 500mb of data all for free, and even the unlimited plan is only $19.99..
My wife gets 20mb/s download speeds with her iphone 5 on freedompop while I only get about 6mb/s in the same location with boost zte force 4g.
The reason I want the sprint galaxy s4 and not the s3 for freedompop is because the sprint s3 is the same SOC as the zte force 4g, while the s3 for other carriers is a quad core version, LOL!
I figure if I can get a sprint galaxy s4 it will pay for itself in a short period of time when you compare the cost of boost vs freedompop.
For now I am back to DSF .7, by far the best ROM available for this phone. It is lightweight and everything works as it should. Def. recommended. Matrix kernel is great, too. I wish I could get JimSmith80 to put out a newer release with the 1.8ghz OC module integrated that other phones using this SOC have had for a couple years already.
I am still planning to try and contact sprint support via email about the 4.1.2 rom. Probably won't spend too much more time trying to make 4.1.2 work with the 3.0.8 kernel, but others feel free to try and I wish whoever may try the best of luck. I have spent too many hours on this already.
Cheers,
