Root I need help unrooting my HTC Evo 4g

GingerBelle

Newbie
I have an Evo 4g that was rooted by the previous owner. Sprint will not or cannot activate this phone unless I unroot it first. I have no idea what I am doing. I have been searching for several days. Probably have 20 pages open now. I really cant figure out where to start. Please help me. I don't understand some of the lingo I am willing to try. Thanks in advance.

I have not done it yet. what do I need to do?
Thanks

you just need to flash a stock rom.

my recommendation would be mikg3.11 it is waaaaay better then stock and very stable.

so here is mikg3.11:
MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012] - theMikMik
download the full wipe version.

or if you really just want plain boring stock then this is the latest stock rom:
[ROM][BASE] 5.07.651.6 Stock - Rooted - Latest Supersonic OTA
download the deodexed version

for a lost of more roms go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html

ok so here is how you flash a rom:
1.download your rom
2.connect the phone to the pc via usb and set the phone to disk drive
3.move the file to the card(no folder)
4.boot into recovery (power off then press and hold power+vol down and select recovery)
5.make a nandroid backup (in recovery select backup/restore and select backup and keep the first three marked and make a nandroid backup)
6.wipe dalvik cache, cache, data, and system
7.in the main menu select "flash .zip from sd card"
8.find your rom file and select it.
9.reboot when done and congrats!!!!! you just flashed your first rom!!!!

now the menu will depend on what recovery you have. before doing the above maybe tell us what it says when you go into recovery.

I did the backup and it said no sd-ext found. skipping backup of sd-ext. generating md5 sum... backup complete! ..... is that ok?

I am soooo going to make this phone blow up or useless or something.... I don't know what you mean to keep the first three marked.

AND.... I accidentally clicked wipe data/factory reset... is that ok? Did I screw up the phone yet?

I have to leave to work till tonight.... I hope it is ok to power off....

Great! Now instructions say to add to sd card, not in folder.... do I unzip it before adding to sd?
No, do not unzip it.

Yes, you are fine :) I can explain about that further, but time is not on my side. :)

"leave the first three marked" is the first three boxes in the nandroid backup screen....
If you accidently wiped it, what you did by that is a factory reset. You're fine.
You can power it off and boot back into recovery later to flash. :)

It should stay on the sd card, because when you are in recovery, after you wipe, you will navigate to the sd card whilst in recovery, to flash the rom.
If the rom was not on the sd card prior to wiping, then you will have issues. :p

Idid have it on the card. I completed it (I think). I activated the phone tonight and all looks good. Do I still need it to stay on the card?

And Thank you all very much!!

If you have the room for it, I would at least keep the nandroid on the sd card and on the computer.
Also, if you have room, it wont hurt to leave it on there, but it is not necessary. :)

So you are up and running? If so, SWEET!! :D
