Root I need help!!

To switch recoveries you do not flash it. It is done in hboot. Basically you rename the .zip file to PC36IMG and do not add .zip because windows hides extensions. Power off then press and hold power +vol down. Hboot will automatically scan for it and proceed to switch your recovery.

ok ok . I will try it. one question.. After the down load just click on the app and rename it. ??? forgive me my exwife took all my computer things and I have not replaced them till now..(4yr later) When I down load the file It comes to C:userers/myname/downloads ---i normaly rename it add move it to a different file. SOO just download the file (whice i have) but rename it with out the zip extention...?????????????

This is not an app. It is a .zip file. So just download it. Rename it. Move it to the root (no folders) of the sd card. Goto hboot and out should scan for it.

You guys are a great help. So much info!

I would read the first two threads stickied at the top of the forum. The Quick Intro to Rooting and the Rooting for Dummies guide are both full of information that will help you understand more about this.

OK so i reflashed clockwork and i tried doing recovery install zip from sd card..
it did all this stuff then said install complete!
powered off..
now powering up now.
Do I have to do anything else?

First boot can take a while sometimes as it has to write certain files to your sdcard. If it goes more than about 15 minutes, try a battery pull and reboot to see if it takes care of it.

@mbancroft...I find using the terminal emulator to change my recovery.img very handy. Akaza outlines the method on the pc36img recovery thread where you probably downloaded the file from. Its very easy and I don't have to boot anywhere. Just gets at your "I can't change my recovery while in recovery", true you do it from hboot or terminal.

yo .. I have been thinking the whole time that "terminal" meant "my PC.". I had no idea that there was an app to give you a command line on your phone.....WOW. after you said that I got straight to work and it all made sense as before it made none. WOW "terminal emulator". lmao.

can this process also be used to flash custom splash screen???

"1) Verify you don't already have flash_image (open terminal and type "which flash_image". If it just says not found, you need to flash it. If it gives you a location (most likely /system/bin/flash_image) your ROM already has this, and you can skip to step 4.
2) Flash flash_image-signed.zip from recovery.
3) Reboot normally when done.
4) Extract recovery.img from the PC36IMG.zip for the recovery you want
5) Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
6) From the terminal type:

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img"

and also would I change the wording to something else I.E. "flash_image (splash screen)(instead of recovery) /sdcard/

following to same logic instead of recovery would I type in "evosplash1":

It wouldnt fix. my brother had to reset my phone : (
I think I give up! lol

Did you make sure to wipe user data/factory reset and Davlik-cache before flashing it?

Also, what is your baseband version? You can find it in hboot or in settings>about phone.
