Help I need to know the Truth about Android Anti-Viruses...

Carador

Newbie
My brother is a sales rep. for Verizon and he has told me numerous times not to get an anti-virus app for my 2.2 Thunderbolt because he claims Androids can't get viruses and that the anti-virus apps may just brick my phone and become inoperable all together. But other reliable sources recommend them, so what is the truth about them? Should I get one? Can Androids actually become infected? And who is right in this?

I got my first Android a year ago April. I had to do a factory-data reset, wiping all data and starting entirely over after the first week because I downloaded and installed and anti-virus.

HowEVER, this program is different and non-intrusive: Lockout Mobile Security It will check programs on the way in to being downloaded and will help you locate your phone if you lose it. I recommend it highly.

Additionally, it is not enTIRely true that the Android can't get a virus, so be careful to know what your downloading and to read over the "permissions" the app is requesting.

+1...I keep Lookout Mobile Security on all of my phones. Not exactly for the malicious app scan (which is an added benefit to me.) I keep it on mine, mainly for the free "find your phone" feature.

Check out the thread linked in my sig.

The best antivirus for your phone is an educated user antivirus apps protect against past threats that you will likely not encounter if you don’t use pirated apps

You're Brother is correct! An anti virus like norton could brick phone. Shady little companies like norton i wouldn't use. It's impossible to get a virus on an android until you get online with it so be careful. Stay away from an anti virus they are secretly designed to brick phones. Your brother is correct. I love that guy
