ITS WORKING!! HAHA the stupid red warning still comes up but viper one s screen is up I cant tell if its doing anything.
 
she is booted up! omg thanks I cant believe it was just boot.img file! 5 days its been! How do I put my number back on it and make the phone actually work as a phone?
 
Ok, do yourself a favor - go into hboot and tell me if it says VILLE or VILLEC2.

I'll get to the other questions.

We want to make sure you're really 100% first.

I see VLE

AND I spoke to soon the phone did boot up and I got in, but when it reboot it now just cycles to the venom screen than turns off than turns back on reboots does it all on it own.

Yeah, I'm not surprised.

Ok - I see in the first post that you have the S4 version.

Now - we're going to make the rest of the Viper install happy.

In Ubuntu, Firefox, goto Techerrata Downloads - Downloading openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-ville.img

In your terminal window (you're still in Downloads), do -

sudo ./fastboot-linux flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-ville.img

At that point, please go into TWRP and re-install Viper.

In the setup that the rom gives you (called the Aroma installer) it's going to ask if you want to wipe everything.

Say yes, check the box, however they have it.

Do it (the wipe) from there, not from TWRP, for a Viper install.

Now - if during re-install, the boot.img install silently fails, you don't care - it's already in there.

Please trust me - installing Viper isn't like installing most roms. To get it to work right, you must meet the installation requirements, weird as they may sound.

The above instructions ought to do that.

Then, when it does reboot, you're going to still see the red HTC legal warning. That's an HTC bug, ignore it. I still see it. It's nothing to worry about.

Your phone may still be on the network.

If not, you'll need to get the APN settings for your carrier.

I can't help with that but I'm sure someone here or in one of our carrier sections can.
 
PS - I have to call it a night.

I expect that the re-install will get you there, or if not, it'll be something minor we can clean up tomorrow.

That's my best offer, I have to get to work in a few hours. :p

And a shout out to Brainz for asking the right questions when this all started.

I wish we could figure out the secret sauce for Win7 64-bit drivers. We just don't know why they work for some people and not others.

But it's always been that way, it completely bit me with a Samsung and XP.

Anyway - OP if you're still following and want to try VirtualBox just so next time is easier - I think that the answer there is to install and enable the VirtualBox Guest Additions. (I run VirtualBox with Windows 7 64-bit, I think that's all I had to do. And mind the tool in the lower right corner, make sure that the phone is attached to the VirtualBox and not the Windows.)

And avoid USB 3 Ports, they're a known issue for this series of HTC and for VirtualBox, so they're a double whammy.

I am glad I can be of help and say earlymon your the man everything mon touch turns to gold . and the op for not giving up and for hold faith that the device can be fix. If it was me 3days and parts sold from it .
 
And another way to get out of having to flash the boot.img separately - turn off encrypted signature security protection (get s-off, right now, you're s-on).

I don't have the One S, so I don't know if this is currently the right way, but if you're interested, this is where to ask about it -

I've gone s-off on 4 of my 5 HTCs so I recommend it.

HTC does patch the s-off holes from time to time, so I don't know if it's possible with your model but there's the link just in case.

PS - no, we couldn't have fixed this weekend with s-off, the phone has to be working to do it.
 
For S-Off on the One S...

I believe Facepalm works fine up to a certain hboot version. Then you can do Moonshine after that. I don't remember the specific hboot versions off the top of my head though.
 
Be sure to try the newer Ubuntu, it has a different interface.

I personally prefer Kubuntu, it's Ubuntu with yet another interface and set of apps.

Mint is another popular Linux, very nice.

Bottom line - Linux is pretty cool. :)

Anyway - we're all glad you're up and running!
