okay i flashed the alternate recovery and that was successful.
then i tried the CWM and it still says error... :( im scared!

Try to boot into receovery using your alternate -

Ie turn your phone off and hold Power and Volume down -
If you boot into revocery you are fine. Just using a diferent Method than clockwork....
not sure why this has become an issue....maybe coming from the .7 build?

so what happens after i boot into recovery? that part is the scary part for me. thats when i do the nandroid backup i believe?

Yup -
Nandroid is on the Menu - Click Nandroid then backup - let it do its thing!
Then click the back button - twice i think then Reboot!~
Only downfall is you won't use ROM manager - (I don't use it anymore)

hmm i do not see nandroid in the menu.
i have
-reboot system
-usb-ms toggle
-backup/restore (is this the one?)
-flash zip from sdcard
-wipe
-partition
-other
-power off

+1

okay i am doing just the nand backup, i was curious how long the backup usually takes... gosh i have been looking to do this for so long..

takes awhile - 5-10 minutes on the long end -
Not sure what recovery you are using....so I can't be sure.

Nothing you are doing right now will hurt your phone.

WOOT! sorry for all the posts.
in the rebooting process as of right now. now for the rom.
i think i am going to run aosp rom, the ones that you guys are running, correct?
MahaloCat - you recommended flashing the rom in recovery right?

Yes - I Do -
If you have AOSP / gapps/ here are your steps -

reboot into recovery (let your phone finish its backup reboot FIRST- give it a few minutes - Play a few rounds of angry birds or something)

Wipe data
Wipe Partition Cache
Advanced - Wipe Davlik Cache
Back
Flash Zip from SD Card
find Aosp - Click it - let it do its thing -
find gapps - Click it....let it do its thing
back back - reboot -
HAVE FUN!

Okay. before all of this I should probably put the nandroid back up on my computer first right? lol that seems the most logical thing to do before i wipe the data and stuff.
:)

okay i am going to do that when i get back home. will either of you guys be here in an hour or so? i have a meeting :(
One more question, before i flash the aosp rom in recovery, is it necessary for me to do the backup current rom in rom manager if i did the nandroid in recovery?

and thanks again for everything!

No, you should not have to do another Nandroid backup in ROM Manager if you have already done one while in recovery. What recovery image did you use?

If you want to continue to do backups with ROM Manager in the future you will need to use the ClockworkMod recovery image. Although, it is unclear whether that is the one you are using now or if it is an alternate one.

I will be here - in hawaii....5 hrs behind the east coast.
(don is a dork and is always available)
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No - You have already backed it up in recovery No need to do it again.
