I want a cool tower!!!

Odd thing though is it frezzes on boot screen almost half the time. After troubleshooting for HOURS my guess is that it seems to be connected to the hitachi 1tb external. Sometimes it doesn't show up in 'my computer'. As soon as i unplug it all my problems go away.
^^ this is still bugging me, seems there was a bios update last month and i'm considering flashing to it, not sure. All my issues SEEM to stem from the hitachi 1tb external...
Hmmm, thats a bit high to be running at consistently (which it probably is, though I could be wrong). Overclocking the Phenom x6 seems to be a bit of pain to do without that motherboard though, so I think I'll just keep it at 2.8GHz for now. I might bump it up to 3GHz sometime in the future, possible higher if I invest in better cooling.
Just checked and pc been sitting all night doing nothing and all 6 cores were sitting at 22 to 23c... that not to bad. I got a bunch of stuff going on right now (downloading, converting multiple avi's to dvd) and all 6 cores are around 45c under a 35% workload. Using AMD Overdrive to monitor. Still not sure about sticking with the stock heatsink/fan

Yea after leaving without one yesterday i musta looked at 50 or so online, this was the last one at microcenter which was the only way i wouldn't have to order it. $111 i think

Looks like you decided to go with the case I have. Great choice. I don't have nearly as much power in mine as you do but mine runs no more than 34c (and that's underload).

You know what they say... Great minds:D

Case is awesome though (antec 900 II i believe)
And i havent looked up what temp range is unacceptable yet but been keeping an eye og the amd overdrive program and all is good for now (except my freezing on boot problem)

You could always turn up the fans on the case if you wanted. See if that helps a wee bit. I wired everything neatly and have it all organized and etc.. so that kind of helps with airflow.

Do you have a spare external laying around that you can test out?

I've not had enough experience messing with fan rp[m's and such to do it comfortably. Been reading online documentation on my motherboard and seeing what tweaks i need to make first.

And i think i do have a wd 500gig laying around somewhere. O well, i sure could use a reason to purchase another tb external:D

Sounds like it is trying to boot from the external drive. In your BIOS settings check to make sure that your hard drive is set as first boot device. You might also look for a setting for Legacy USB devices and disable it.

I thought I had. Been in BIOS for hours messing with settings, reset defaults, then messed with it again. In boot options it lists usb devices in its own category, even listed my phone. I disabled everything in there.

Weird thing is sometimes when I hit del to enter setup(BIOS) info scrolls across saying checking hard drive, checking dvd Rom, and then checking usb devices. It sticks on that half the time and I have to reset just to try to get into BIOS again.

USB devices can be pretty problematic at boot time. A friend got an older Dell laptop from the school once, brought it to me to check it over for him and it worked just fine. The school was having problems with it so decided to get rid of it. He brought it home and called me the next day cause he could not get it to boot. I went over to look at it and figured out that he had installed a USB wireless mouse. As long as that thing was plugged in it would not boot. I think I disabled legacy devices in the BIOS and had no problems after that.

You don't even have to mess w/ the RPMs. If you look inside your case, there are switches that will turn the fans from low to medium to high. At least that's how it is in my Antec 900. I would surely think you bought the same thing since they look identical.

Been going through asus forums half the night, apparently there has been some issues with this board, one of the proposed fixes was something to do with enabling 'legacy' devices??? Gonna read some more into that

There might be, hadn't even thought to check...
