I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

sipart thank you again for NPS 1.5 version post. It works like a charm.

I'm from Slovenia and I see every country or even mobile operator has different version of firmware. There is still no update for us either.
So I think there is no way to update with fulling servers with different IP

Thing about this stuff is that nobody is going to be much of an expert since the software is so flaky that it seems everybody's experience is unique, and also nobody is likely to successfully update their phone more than once (obviously)...well until next time!

The 2.1 update is there, however each carrier must approve it for use on their phones, word on the T-Mobile release of the update is early May, however whether or not that'll be through NPC or some other method is yet to be known.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi all
I installed 1.5 version.
Can anyone tell me how you can use any of the functions?. It see's my phone np, but i can do nothing with the software. I'm not so bothered about the 2.1 update at this point. just want to be able to backup my phone and stuff.
I noticed when you start 1.5 nps, it says select pc manager on your mobile. Dint anyone see this option?

Really carn't see this software updating your phone's, if there are no basic functions working.
Any help on this would be good thanks :)

Hi all
I know you are all trying to find out about the 2.1 upgrade, but I thought I would share this with you, resulting from my post above. I contacted samsung about the functionality of there software, here is a snipet of there reply. the first part is from me the second there reply. Just to point out they have told me that all work with my mobile from 1.3 nps through to kies.

Hmm Have no idea how you are making Kies work with this mobile model, it
dosenot recognise the phone, and i see no way to back it up even without
the external sd card in the mobile.
nps 1.5 does recognise this model mobile but does not allow to do
anything with it :(
I find this really frustrating that you have released a model to the
general public without working software in the box, as you advertise.
everybady on the android forums are saying how good the mobile is, but
how crap your software and support is. I must agrre with them now, as
I have asked serveral times now for you to give me a working software,
but each time you have failed, I will be looking to return my mobile,
due to false marketing and hopefully changing to HTC android
Regards
Dave
(really sad to have to do this :( )

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics UK regarding your GT-I5700.
The sections of New PC Studio for transferring contacts and calender
entries are not compatible with Android handsets. There is currently no
software that can perform this function with any Android phones. I
suggest that you synchronise your contact and calender with Google
Calender.
You do not need to install any software to transfer media files. To do
this connect the phone to the PC using a USB cable. Wait until the USB
icon appears at the top of the screen and then tap the icon. Select
'mount device'. You will then be able to access the phone and the memory
card through the My Computer/Computer icon on your PC.
The phone works with the Android operating system due to which it only
synchronise with Google.
Should you require any further assistance please feel free to contact us
on 084567 267864, our business hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm.

I have seen posts on this forum that kies dose work but you've got to have 2.1android on the phone and nps only let's you update

Are there any limitations flashing with the odin software? i guess you guys flash the phone with the official firmware?

I don't have the patience waiting for this shitty solution. But i don't want some crappy firmware that half of the functions does not work either.

Bottom line is that this is all getting abit silly I regret getting this phone only because of the lack of support from samsung and I have been toying with the idea of upgrading via Odin....

I can't really understand what you're complaining about.

What is it that you think you can do with software support that you can't do without? Can you backup contacts/sync contacts sync email, edit and sync calender now?

Yes, obviously - though Gmail.

Can you put media on your phone/SD card?

Yes, by using your regular Windows explorer.

Can you currently update your firmware?

Depends where you live, but ultimately yes (at some point).

Seems like people are losing their minds over this - maybe go outside and get some air (why not try out GPS!!) and try to apply some perspective.

I'm with everyone else in this thread & really want the 2.1 upgrade!

I agree that Samsung should pull their finger out & roll out 2.1 quicker & the NPS/Kies support should have been sorted before the phone was released but there's really nothing wrong with the phone as it stands!

Astro file manager will back up the installed apps to the SD card, the contacts are sync'd with gmail & anything on the SD card can be pulled off the phone under Windows.

You beat me to it!

I don't think people would be bothered if Samsung hadn't bundled the S/W with the phone & included links to it on the phone's web page.

For me its not because i cant get 2.1 yet, its because they sell a product with faulty software and i dont agree with that, a professional electric company like samsung should really be able to sell their products with functional software. As ive said before, im not one to just accept that i bought a faulty product and take it up the ass from samsung, i may not be able to do anything to the company, but im certainly not buying anything more from them.

The point is though, THE ONLY thing you need the software for is updating the firmware.

I agree that they perhaps shouldn't have used their vanilla software since it's a little confusing (ie; one is inclined to believe that one's phone should work with the rest of the software features), but to be fair, the software DOES pretty much work as designed - to update the firmware.

With other (non-Android) phones, presumably the software DOES support the other features, but since Android is designed to rely on Google for syncing, there'd be absolutely no point supporting this in NPS as well.

I think it's just a case of them not being clear in their information, which I agree is lame.

One small update guys.
I called samsung Scandinavia.

The guy told me that they were working on uploading the firmware this week, but as we know.. someone has got it already

BUT, the thing he told me was follow this guide (in Norwegian sorry): Program og tjenester

lower part of that page contains a guide for flashing, when you choose the spica you will get to this link afterwords: http://support-sena.samsung.com/content_services/software/New_PC_Studio_1.4.0.IJ3_ForI5700.exe

He said that this was a special version for the spica (wich i really doubt). But it might be something to try out. I'm going to try it out later, live in Norway.

He also warned me about windows 7, wich is not as supported.. I think we know that too :P
