I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

I got really fed up with waiting for Samsung to pull there crap together so I after reading that comment I thought why not and so I just updated via Odin like I imagine any other brits on here have had to do to get 2.1 and I can say that I'm glad I did...

Has anybody managed to update to 2.1 using the NPS in India\Asia. I really want to update via the offical way and dont want to risk bricking my phone using Odin.

im going to wait for the uk update i dont see the point in doing some thing that might brick it and blow your guarantee

don't be affraid - i'd flashed my Spica 8 times :D honestly - 4 last of them were just for fun :D :D
now i'm running JCE 2.1 update 1 with LeshaK's custom kernel 2.6.29 with LkMod 2.5.1 (root & extras) and JIT (for speed increase) for almost 2 weeks.
i can say 1 thing - NOW I LUV MY i5700 ;) :D

honestly, after all my flashing, i cannot imagine the way to brick this phone, unless you unplug it when it sait NOT TO DISCONNECT. but it is like using condoms - it is most likely not possible to get aids unless you take it off ;)
 
will the offical update have to go to t mobile first or have they got nothing to do with because thats what i was told
 
Updated via Odin on my wife's laptop - there was no way it would work with mine.

Once the firmware was downloaded, and the drivers (finally) working, it was easy! The only minor scare was that the phone was in French! Once I'd set it to English and restored (apns backup and restore definately worth doing) the 3g settings, I was in business!

Best discovery so far - BEEBPLAYER WORKS!!!! WOOOHOOOO!

Is this the best version you tested so far? If so, where did you find the version you mentioned with all those mods? Tks!

Not yet available, I check this through NPS 1.5 almost everyday. I am disappointed with samsung due to lack of communication and concrete rollout plan from their side. Anyway this is my last samsung mobile. I regret on opting for samsung over HTC Hero.

i was testing JCF for a day or two, but got back to JCE because the custom kernel. it gives the root as a default for adb (no more 'su') and speeds up the USB transfer.
all i'm using is found via google ;) but to make your life easier go here and search&read a bit :)
 
cant you just do a manual update by copying the firmware on the card then resetting the phone like for the nexus one and droid?

just read that the nexus one and droid updates this way.

well... it is possible for the Spica, although only for version 1.5 - it is necessary to hack/root the 1.5 anyway to get the Recovery Console, whitch allows to boot up from update.zip file on SD card, as far as I remember.
2.1 definitely does not have the Recovery Console

IMHO, the easiest way is to use the Odin software

just read a tutorial for manually updating a droid to 2.1 by going on download mode. is the download mode just for rooted droids? is the non-ability of the spica to update this way a samsung thing?

LMAO oh yeah I forgot to mention that it starts in french I didnt notice as I already speak it :D

the 'download mode' is necessary to upload firmware using external source via USB (Odin or NPS) and as far as i know it is the only usage

that non-ability is android 2.1 'thing'
 
Can you guys who has flashed manually tell me a thing:

Does the firmware contain Norwegian language?
Will it be possible to update my phone with nps afterwords with original firmwares/nps update.

yes it does have Norwegian lng
well... i don't know if it would be possible - so far i don't have this option - NPS 1.5 sais no update is necessary ;)
but you can always get back to 1.5 and then use NPS. as far as i know those firmwares from url i gave a few posts before ARE original :)

I've actually re-flashed using the 'F' version which has English as it's primary language, and seems rather more stable. Well, perfectly stable - the 'E' version crashed once...

I would like a 'lite' version I think - without YouTube/Facebook etc to free up some ram, but otherwise it seems GREAT so far, albeit a little heavy on the haptics!
