I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

I've actually re-flashed using the 'F' version which has English as it's primary language, and seems rather more stable. Well, perfectly stable - the 'E' version crashed once...

I would like a 'lite' version I think - without YouTube/Facebook etc to free up some ram, but otherwise it seems GREAT so far, albeit a little heavy on the haptics!

for this purpose the MODs were created - google for UsefulMod or LkMod

Oh my god. I'm so tired of this. Isnt there anyone at this forum who can make a guide? F.x. the peoples who got the official update to work?

Seems a little to advanced for me! I have no idea how to do that stuff.

:(

don't worry friend :)
to know what do you need the root for - read this
that is REALLY easy. just follow THIS manual

the most important part is this:
Installation:

if you have a firmware with no LightweightMod:
a full reflashing required (NOTE: All data and settings will be lost!)
download: narod.ru, rapidshare.com
unzip
flash i5700-full-lwmod2.2.tar using Odin program as "One Package option" (necessarily use this OPS file: spica_jc3.rar)

a quick note what is removed from default firmware by this MOD (i think the youtube apk is also removed:
Removed applications:
All removed applications have been rebuilt and signed.
Now they can be installed as normal applications:
from SD card or via "adb install".

Being able to watch iPlayer (Beebplayer) is reason enough for me, but I also find Goggles and Voice Search to be huge amounts of fun too.

It's totally worth the upgrade, honestly.

BBC TV on a phone for God's sake! We're living in the future!!!

Awesome, thanks!

I'm a little concerned about stories of Market Place not working anymore though...

Updated my spica to 2.1 a couple of hours ago. I used Odin and it was very easy to do, did not take more than 5 mins tops. Everything works great, no problem with market or anything. Only thing is that live wallpapers is not yet supported it seems. Did a google search about it and it seems like you have to root the phone first to make it work.

So far I have to say that I am very pleased with android 2.1, it runs really smooth and looks great..

Norwegian1 or anyone else who have flashed their phone, the guide says "remove sim lock if any" what does this mean? I bought my phone with a telenor service(abonoment)

if you've got a sim card from another network put it in and see if it works if I don't your phone is sim locked

That's what I thought but someone said that it was the lock the user sets, the one where it prompts you for an unlock code when you power the phone up.

Can anyone help me to understand which version of firmware suitable for my handset. I could not locate the same version from samsungfirmwares.com
Version info after *#1234#
PDA: I5700DDIL1
Phone: I5700DDIK2
CSC: I5700DDIJ4

Yey, i did it! :D xxTJxx is now running Android 2.1

cant believe it was that easy...lol

Gratulerer, velkommen i 2.1 klubben:)

Congratulations and welcome to the 2.1 club...
You are absolutely right, I could not believe it myself that is was so easy to upgrade/flash my spica to 2.1...

Takk skal du ha:)

Thank you :)

Now im trying to find a way to get live wallpapers to work, lol. Any other chool new stuff i should know about btw? :P

but you didn't use nps to do it you used odin and its got nothing to do with samsung.. if you dont believe me contact samsung and ask them

And? If it breaks I will just buy a new one with the 2.1 already installed out of the box. But hey, it's my problem, not your's... right?

Edit: Just had a nice chat with Samsung customer service.... as long as it has official firmware and has not been rooted the warranty is good.
