Iconia A500 Update To Honeycomb 3.1?

I just got an update first thing this morning ... but it wasn't 3.1 ... I finally got the 1.41 patch update from a few weeks back. :/

Me too. I wonder if some people are getting the same one we got and just THINK it's 3.1....

Baaaah. Tomorrow is the last day I can return my Iconia, and I'm seriously considering it if the update doesn't actually roll out today. Because this isn't the last time we're going to have this problem. What about when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out? How much longer are we going to have to wait than Xoom owners or Galaxy Tab owners or Transformer owners?

Don't blame you. Vendors like Acer need to step up their game if they want to be competitive to win new customers. I still believe they should set a proper expectation or SLA on how quickly after a Google update they will roll-out the update on their platform, instead of leaving it to rumors and speculations. They could learn a thing or two from Apple, the gold standard IMHO.

Just to be clear as some are questioning if it is really the 3.1. As I stated in yesterdays post, but I didn't include the specifics, they are: Android version 3.1; Kernel version 2.6.36.3; Build number Acer_A500_4.010.07_COM_GEN2

Looks like some did only get the 3.01 though.

Hopefully when I get home from work this afternoon it will be waiting for me.

Don't blame Acer, Google set up this model.

Don't agree that Apple is the gold standard, yes they do some things very well but do you really want what and how Apple offer their goodies, I guess if you did you would have an iPad 2 and not the much better A500. Be patient grasshopper.

I guess you're right; I opted for Android because I didn't want be in Apple's strait-jacket; still think though that Acer should communicate better with their customers.

Finally got the update to 3.1 couple of minutes ago! Terrific. Couple of new stuff you'll notice immediately - much faster response and the clicks on the keyboard! Fantastic, feels like a whole new tablet. Nice work by the Android team and Acer.

I just received my 3.1 update notice today at 2:30 PM, EDT. I did a "check for updates" and the notification popped up. I downloaded and installed it as soon as the notice appeared

It took about 15 minutes to download, unzip, install and then perform the initial boot up. Seems to be working fine as I am posting this from my A500.

One thing I noticed in the a battery use section, the Cell Standby was gone.

Just got my update. It doea feel faster. Other than performance improvements, do we know what functionality hd been changed?

I received the update to HC 3.1 in Texas. The first attempt never completed. I canceled it and started over. It completed successfully.

However, I found some strange behaviour.

It took about 2 reboots after receiving the HC 3.1 update in the wee hours of the morning to run into a devasting issue - no wifi.

After the HC 3.1 update, I noticed my Nook for Android App would no longer work (force closes everytime). I explored and used the new apps Movie Studi (workable video editor), Videos ( 4 out of 15 movies no longer play) and Zinio (replaced the magazines I had on Nook for Android). Two hours later after a couple of manual reboots due to some blank screen flakiness, the wifi will not connect to any of my pre-existing secure connections (home and EVO 4G WAP). The signal strength is strong when not trying to connect but as soon as it does the signal strength drops to nil and it stays in the obtainng IP Address loop until it gives up.

Anyone have any ideas how to solve this?

You might want to contact Acer customer support. When you register with them you can then email there support team. When a major update like that is interupted, well it sounds like a factory reset is in order, then you can run the update again but check with them first. Hope it works out.
