Ics 6.7.235

John, from what you have said about this .235 build, we can not move back but if this is not the OTA we do have the ability to move forward. Is that correct?

but one thing i discovered tonight: just like in GB, if you power off the phone while in vibrate or silent mode, then next time you boot the boot animation is also silent. Previous ICS bids always played the boot animation audio regardless of your shut down state.

As we discover more, more will be reported.

The boot animation has been silent on start up in 232 for me when powered off on silent or vibrate mode, and i believe it was in 230 also, I use these modes quire a bit @ night when I power down and turn it back on in the morning. I do have safe strap installed so I'm not sure if it may interfere with the boot sound or not but I get it at start up if sound is enabled when I shut down.

I tried it in .229, .230 and .232 and it would always play the boot anim for me regardless of phone state.

Only on .235 is it working for me correctly. but, on .235, I also did not restore downloaded apps via TiBu - I never deleted my /data partition and let the new build optimize those.

I'm not sure why it was not working for me previously - I know b/c I specifically tested in .232 over the weekend and replied to a post b/c I thought it did, but then realized it did not.

Perhaps it was not doing it when I replaced the battery, but even when I replace the battery now in .235 it follows the audio setting of the phone.

If you are root-ed in 5.9.905 and have a full Nandroid backup is it possible to go to 6.7.235 and then restore to 5.9.905 using the Nandroid backup?

... Thom

No. A nandroid backup saves system files but not the kernel and a few other components so when you restore your system will say 5.9.905 but your kernel will still be from the 6.7.235 leak which does not work with GB.

However, a user has successfully restored a nandroid of .232 onto .235, meaning that the .232 system does work with .235 components. However, even from there there is no reverting back to GB. And, of course, this is useless, because your system needs to be on .905 (GB) in order to flash another, newer leak.

The bootloader keys get updated and then a previous img will not authenticate and get loaded. You can flash back earlier leak partitions in pieces but not to GB, I suspect.

Thanks for being the guinnea pig. I will be staying on GB anyway for the unlocked GSM. ICS looks cool (on the razr) but does little functionaly for me ATM.

Actually, it's the security level in cdt.bin. Cannot flash previous versions of it, boot.img, or a couple of other firmware files (I'd have to go look again to see).

Here is an interesting thread over at DH - and it has just become another reason why I am glad I am on .235....

Okay John, I can understand the security issue in your link but that's what insurance is for, at least for me:D
I was thinking it might be better to stick with .232 even after the final OTA is pushed to allow you to move between ROM's though I'm sure they will eventually force a locked version on us somehow.
That said, as this is the .235 thread please list the advantages of .235 over .232, I really have thought about taking the .235 plunge and I as well as others would be grateful for your view on this subject.
I've been following bits and pieces of your .235 adventure here and there but sure I have missed most of it.

Hey Lars,
So GSM is the ability to use differert carriers with our Bionics by changing the SIM? And you are saying we lose that ability if we have ICS?

Thx

The issue in the link wasn't the fact that the phone was lost - it was the fact that someone else had access to his data.

Of course, anything on my SDCard is always going to be available to the thief. But, if he thinks he is going to be smart and just FXZ my phone he's in for a nasty surprise lol.

As for sticking to .232, I see no need and have no desire to ever go back to GB on this phone again.

Advantages of .235 over .232:

  • Smoother - yes, this is subjective, in a sense, but everyone who has joined me on the dark side agrees
  • Better battery life - I'm getting damned near what I was getting with GB, and I have 6 Google Accounts (all syncing contacts and calendars and drive, plus 1 syncing everything else Google related on my phone), Twitter, Facebook, Tapatalk and the AF tapatalk, LinkedIn,MySpace, FourSquare, eBay, CraigsList, Beautifu Widgets, and DropBox installed on this leak.....all of which run in hte background

I've made a list at various places, let me compile all of it together and post the rest of it here.

It's not for the faint of heart - I installed it partially b/c I like a challenge, and partially b/c I am a chronic beta tester. but, I have ways an ways of getting out of jams lol....

On gb the phone is unlocked and you can even put a AT&T sim in after you do a nvm edit. On ics you can roam overseas likely with vodafone. Verizon may provide a sim key for other sims like they have in the past. On ics it will not work on a AT&T service in the usa. You may never need that.

One new rumor going around is that ICS may be delayed for the Bionic because it doesn't install properly on some devices (whatever that means).
They also had some problems when they pushed ICS out for the Razr they want to avoid.
I don't know if any of this is true, just what I have read in some other places.
The Official word was 3rd quarter 2012 which means they have until Sept 30 and still be in the target date. In the meantime whats wrong with .232?

Doesn't install properly on SOME devices? If this rumor is true, this would indicate a hardware difference between some Bionics wouldn't it? Perhaps earlier ones had something different hardware wise than later released ones?

And technically, early is anything before the middle of the quarter, which is around 15 -16 August.

Since the RAZR users had all sorts of issues, I'm actually rather glad that they were the testbed and that we'll get a much smoother transition to the ICS final OTA.

I would say early would imply dividing the quarter into thirds (early, mid, late), while you are describing halfs...

Doesn't change anything. If they aren't ready to release it, they won't.
