yeah. just because I want it in June doesn't mean it's more likely to happen. At first it was Q1. Then late spring. Then June. Now June-July. Why would anyone have confidence they can get it out in June? The fact they have to specify July, even if it's to cover their ass tells me they're not that confident in a June timeframe. Hope for the best; prepare for the worst, I guess.

So, for anyone out there that's took the plunge prior to Sprint releasing their official ICS ROM, what are you using, and have any recommendations?

I'm pretty sure this has been settled...Visual proof that that the GSM version gets the update the last week of May, and the CDMA version gets it first half of June...or just use the VM version now...

Hi, I was wondering if you have a link to the site that shows the GSM version will get the update the last week of may? is it just for a specific country- or will all GSM Evo's round the world get it on that week? sorry to ask about it here, it's just that i can't find places to talk about the GSM ICS- all the forums seem to be just for the CDMA

post #541 in the thread..click the link

its a French website...but doesn't really say anything about country specific

ICS for E3D is likely to be released in the last week of may, as announced by a French operator. See link below. Its GSM version only and not sure when the cdma version will see ICS.

Thankyou Corpse11. Although I'm not sure how accurate that ad is and whether the operator will stick to that time frame, but I hope they do. june-july time frame seems more likely to me.

Also, I have heard that the reason the evo 3d is not going to get sense 4.0 is due to hardware requirements. But I don't understand why this is the case- I mean is sense 4.0 really that resource hungry that a dual core, 1gb ram phone such as ours can't handle it-and only the new quad core HTC one range can?? :(

I had a Sense 4.0 ROM installed on my Evo 3D and had no problems with it's snappiness. The reason I suspect that we're not getting 4.0 is for marketing reasons. The newest HTC Phones (The One series - including the EVO 4G LTE) have it so that they are more appealing over the older phones. Some customers may get older phones because they have the same software...that sort of thing.

Basically, it's the whole 'newest, latest, and greatest!' advertisement point, IMO.

Which ROM did you use? And did everything work on the phone? I'm thinking of rooting sometime after 3D gets ICS. I want to see how 3.6 works first. Then I'll root my phone right before I upgrade to a new phone.

that's exactly what I suspected- and it makes me angry.

On this website- Android 4.0 Update Frequently Asked Questions

HTC states:

"Why does the Android 4.0 update not include Sense 4?
Some aspects of Sense 4 require dedicated hardware, which is not available on all devices"

That is then a downright lie, they are deceiving customers. They are telling us that the reason we are not getting sense 4.0 is due to hardware, but in reality Evo 3D's are more than powerful enough to handle it.

The Evo 3d was released in the UK at the beginning of september, so I've had it for just 8 months- and already HTC are not fully supporting it? I was under the idea impression that they were meant to update each phone until it reached it's hardware limits (or at least give it a couple of major updates, out of decency). I know that sense isn't an android update, but still the principle applies.

I don't know why the community hasn't complained to HTC about this, just like when it complained to HTC about the bootloader situation and got it changed- or like when HTC desire users complained about HTC's plans to not bring gingerbread to the Desire, and then got HTC to reconsider. I don't even know if sense 3.6 compared to 4.0 is a major difference, but it's the principle that matters here. Plus it's different enough to make HTC think that it will make new customers more inclined to pick the new HTC One series over the old HTC's

well, HTC and Sprint had never really given an exact date. HTC had initially promised (on facebook) it in "early 2012", and then (in Feb 2012) said "later this year"
(I don't recall reading HTC or Sprint officially saying Q1 or late Spring - did I miss an announcement?)

June 2012 is still the first half of 2012, so I guess it qualifies as "early 2012". The Sprint exec who was recently interviewed by engadget said "June" as well. So, the ETA really hasn't changed all that much.

Now, we are hearing "June/July" from HTC. So if they are able to push it out to us in June (which I suspect they will), they are still "on target". If it gets pushed to July, it would be a slight delay (considering that we have already waited 7 months, what's one more? ugh)

Just my $0.02

Official: The Evo 3d will have Android 4.0 |Sense 3.6 no later than the end of August. The rollout of updates will begin starting in June.

"Official" - statement by? (link?)

The only official statement comes from HTC.

The link below still says June-July.

It does not say "no later than end of August." :) ;)

HTC says June-July for EVO 3D. "By July" is a qualifier. It could be sooner.

I'd say sooner than that.

Ice Cream Sandwich RUU file for the EVO 3D leaks

And how did we get back on to early 2012??

That was last year's statement, and they retracted that months ago to 2nd quarter.

If they make June, they made 2nd quarter (and I'll agree in advance, not by much, but still).

If they make July, they were late from their update earlier this year.

Anyway - the existence of our leaked RUU is promising.

ok - that makes sense. I was confused by Rush Lindsay's post - thought I missed a HTC update :)

I had linked to that just to show the history of HTC's posts showing that they never really promised a 1Q12 release - just "early 2012" (1st half of 2012 is still the earlier part of 2012! lol!)

Thanks for the clarifications EarlyMon

It was still a statement made. They can say june/july and retract that too.

Does anyone know when the 3D is being released on Virgin Mobile? I heard it would be in June. It seems like they will have ICS before we will.

They already do, you can download the rom for the Virgin Mobile version of ICS for the EVO3D right now if you want, and it works just about perfectly...you just have a VM banner when you start your phone

I know they have the ROM, it was talked about in this thread a little. But has the phone on Virgin Mobile been released yet? If it has then they officially have it before we do.

Im just waiting to see if they get rid of all the bloatware. Ive heard on another thread that there is virtually none from HTC or Sprint on the EVO 4G LTE. Hopefully they slimmed us down alot too.
