Root ICS/CM9-JB/CM10 Development Thread

Me too Skater. AOKP is nice.

I have used aokp, modded stock, aosp, miui, and cm6,7,9,10 and to be honest I have always preferred cyanogenmod. For me it has the best usability factor. But that is what makes android so much better than any other platform; choice, and a lot of it.

Compiling AOKP 4.1. It's soooo slow to build. Hopefully once ccache is populated the rebuilds will be tolerable.

Keep in mind, i'm new at this.... haha..

What does it mean when you say you're compiling AOKP 4.1? Compiling the ROM???

Correct. The rom is made of mass amount of code (source code), which is compiled by computer using a toolchain to make the final Rom. Hope this helped you understand a bit better. :D

Thanks so much Skater, really happy you got back to me quick! I'm stoked for tonight! :D. I feel like i know nothing, but hey... guess I have to start somewhere right?:)

Looks like AOKP boots. The new boot anim is nice.

rild is segfaulting, so I'll need to add in the radio fixes. And 3g fixes too.

WiFi seems to turn on but it's not detecting any networks.

Bluetooth is still not happy.

So it looks like a nice first cut but there's work to be done.

Now im confused again. lol. Are we getting an Alpha tonight?

Yeah I'll push out a build of both CM10 and AOKP41 within an hour.

I should have rild, 3g, and wifi fixed in AOKP41.

Bluetooth may not work in either, we'll see.

Oh, and for some reason the AOKP41 installer is not giving proper permissions to the "su" binary. Which is really strange because the edify script looks correct. The fix is pretty simple with adb though.

Amusingly, the AOKP ROM is smaller than the CM ROM. Go figure... lol.

Not to mention depending on the size of the source tree it can take 6 hours or more with troubleshooting along the way

Kinda the reason why you don't see these guys just pumping out roms. Every time they make core changes they have to rebuild. This plays a huge factor in why people, especially devs, hate eta questions.

Anyone who has ever compiled anything from source knows the time and frustration behind the progress

I have absolutely no doubt of that, when i was using Python and C++ (I know it's probably completely different) but i know all of the headaches of getting things to run without errors and what not. So, I guess i can relate a little bit.

Well that's strange .. I installed CM10 just to make sure it worked, then reinstalled AOKP41. The radio seems to be working now. So I'm tossing it out there also, just for fun:

Issues:
* Radio may or may not work.
* Bluetooth may not turn on.
* Cameras are completely non-functional.
* su does not have proper permissions.
* I think there's a few missing packages, like busybox.
