ICS Stock ROM... it works!

Oh, bless!

Ahem!!!!
Post

Just to clear a few things up:

ALL STOCK Samsung ROM's are ODEXED
99.99% of CUSTOM ROM's are DEODEXED.

Being odexed/deodexed is not the point being put across here. What this thread is about is the fact that flashing a STOCK ICS ROM through Odin seems to be of benefit if you are having troubles with your CUSTOM ICS ROM. I cannot be certain about this, but there is a consensus that certain files/folders are created/initialized during the flashing of the stock ROM in Odin that perhaps are not addressed when flashing a CUSTOM ROM, thus giving your CUSTOM ROM a more stable base to flash onto.

I've never had trouble from any of my custom ROM flashes when I came directly from GB, but I've heard of quite a few people that have, and flashing a STOCK ROM does seem to have its benefits in such cases.

Where i got lost was when I clicked link to download LPF I was given option of odexed & deodexed, this threw me & didn't know anything bout them, hence the questions carrying on in thread.

I had the issues with ICS but flashing stock improved my phone ten fold, I may even stick with stock for while longer.

Your talking about JKay here. This is just a mod, not a ROM.
Which one you install (odex/deodex) depends on your current ROM

Like I already mentioned
Stock ROMs are ODEXED
Custom ROMs are DEODEXED.

If I am running just stock (regardless of things like Siyah) then any 'extras/mods' I flash will be Odexed. If running say AndyX or similar, it would be Deodexed.

I think I have it, ALLELULAH!!

Sorry for dragging this bit out, it well & truly had me!! Cheers for ur help, again!

Not necessarily!
It depends on the mod.
You could still flash deodexed mods onto a stock rom and they would work, but this depends on the mod and which apk's then effect. Some will work, some wont.
I would be surprised if you could find any odexed mods (apart from JKay)

JKay's framework wouldnt work if the incorrect version is flashed, which is why you need specific odexed/deodexed framework versions to install onto your corresponding odexed (stock)/deodexed (custom) rom.

The thick plottens!

BRILLIANT :hmpf:

You could have just said yes and let me enjoy my eve thinking I've got it!! :D

This is the 1st time I've come across it so hopefully its not a common thing!

OK so I've been running stock ICS (LPD) for while no real problems.
Downloaded LPF to flash and after doing through Odin got real problems.

Phone boots up OK but every 5/10 secs geet "TwLauncher has stopped........" Not letting me into any menu's app drawer, etc.

I rebooted into recovery but have no back up & restore option in any of the menu's (I don't have the full recovery menu).

At the moment, my phone is useless :(

Can you see the cache partition and the Dalvik cache (under advanced)? If so, I would think the first thing to try would be wiping those.

Anyone experience problems with LPF after flash??
My phone was completely useless after flash. I did wipes, GSWiper etc then flashed through Odin but it just completely messed up?

The same as the one's I told you in post #61

So, that means Auto Reboot; F. Reset Time and PDA ok? This to flash the latest unbranded ICS ROM for Argentina, ( I9100UHLPI_I9100AROLP3)

I thought Repartition was also being needed because of passing to ICS from GB but I see I was wrong.

Sorry because it seems I repeated the question :-(

Thanks again!

After 2 days of switching between stock LPG and NEAT LPG I can say that I'm very happy with this release. I cannot detect any major differences over the LPF release though.

It is very quick and smooth and certainly a lot more polished than the LPQ and LPS firmwares.

To anyone thinking of switching from Gingerbread, this would be a good ROM to go for. :)

I finally move to this rom. I find it very nice and until now stable. I did it through cwm after wipes and formatting.
Please, let me know what you do to improve battery life. I've installed juice defender but I think battery should last longer.
Thanks,
Glore2002.

Think I'm going to give this a try. I'm on checkrom v6 at the moment. Are the newest ICS stock roms regarded in the main as better than checkromv6?

I'm confused tho by all this LPG, LPO, LPS stuff. What do I download for a UK unbranded handset?

You can download the latest stock, ICS, ROM, (currently LPG), here.

I wouldn't say better, IMHO, but no worse. Particularly when used with JKay's DeLuxe Settings.

Running LPG with Siyah 3.3 & couple strange things happened today.

Whilst doing cwm backup my battery dropped from 44 to 13%.

Also text messages are delayed in coming through??

Thanks for the comments Mehrad1983!

If you like the stock ROM look then you might want to consider the NEAT ROM which is very good on battery life as well as slick and smooth. :thumb:

Cheers pal,

Actually in between our conversation going on here I downloaded the latest 4.0.4 European ROM leaked the other day :
GT-I9100 - Open Europe

PDA: I9100XXLQ5
CSC: I9100OXALQ5
Version: 4.0.4
Date: 2012-06-28
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom

But unfortunately I am getting a installation aborted message as soon as I am attempting to install in from CWM.
Considered restoring my Stock ROM from Nandroid which just finished and I am gonna try again since my stock one which is I updated it from kies on top of GB is extremely laggy.

I'll definitely consider flashing NEAT right away before I switch to stock ... Thanks for the recommendation ...

Errr... LQ5, Android 4.0.4, if you downloaded it from SamMobile, as per my link, has to be flashed via Odin. It isn't a CWM .zip file! ;)

That's an Odin install (.tar or .md5) file surely, not a CWM zip?

EDIT: Damn Ninja'd by one minute by an old git! :banghead:

hahahahahahha ... I can't stop laughing ... That's true ... and the way Hawker commented it was hilarious ... Got really disappointed and proud of myself at the same time ... I might be a good C++ Developer but I am nothing more than a noob when it comes to my little mobile ...

I have checked the contents and since they were finishing with *.tar.md5 then I told myself, yeah... it should be CWM zip ... I thought I can only mount .tar files with Odin ... I'll give it a try ...

You might be able to give me a little hint though .... It's surely the SAMMobile one ... and it has 4 files in it ...

  • GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXALQ5.tar.md5
  • I9100_CODE_I9100XXLQ5_CL753921_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
  • MODEM_I9100XXLQ5_REV_02_CL1165929.tar.md5
  • u1_02_20120326_emmc_EXT4_8GB.pit
and I know that much that I shouldn't mess with the pit one since they always say DON"T mount the PIT file : )))))))))) ...

Anyways ... Thanks for the heads up guys ... you guys rock ...
