ICS Stock ROM... it works!

You should, after extracting it once, get a .tar zip file that is placed in PDA of Odin.

Tortoise and hare, Hawker... tortoise and hare! ;)

I can see that it's a pretty tense competition going on here : ))))
If that's the case please don't let my question to live there in the second page unanswered :P ... I will truly appreciate it :)

Finally last night after some dramas I came back to stock ROM ...

This is what happened ...

I tried to flash the leaked 404 ROM with Odin and it broke in the middle ... Then I got the message was telling me that I am F**ked : ))))) and I I am that f**ked that I need to use Kies in the recovery mode ...

Booted to download mode and had nothing except an old ancient stock ICS. and I flashed it on... Got million errors ...

Flashed again with another copy of leaked 404 from other mirror ... and this time it worked ... Brought back my apps with Ti and put Siyah Kernel on it ...
It works perfectly except 3 problem ...

1&2: The camera and Bluetooth didn't work. Fixed these two putting CF-Root Kernel ...
3: One of the errors from the ancient stock, kind got sticky and stayed with me ... Sometimes ... specially exactly after reboot, the phones doesn't respond to one of my moves and after a min I receive a com.android.phone has stopped message ... I still be able to make phone calls and everything is good after I click OK ... but it happens couple o times a day ...

Wanted to have toggles following your recommendation about JKey but found out it's not out for the LQ5 yet ... and got a bit sad and drank couple of beers and installed the old Data Enabler ... kind o ironic ...

Anyways ... Cheers mates for the help along the road ...

Keep it real ...

BTW ... I am gonna try that NEAT Rom ... probably switch back to Siyah and double boot having the NEAT and stock ... (it's kind a funny since Siyah in Persian means black ... I reckon the developer of that Kernel should be Persian ... )

Keep it real ...

See post here regarding the, "Brick Bug", in the Android 4.0.4, leaked, firmware, LQ5.

I was just reading it when you posted this ...
Pretty hectic:smokingsomb: ... I definitely did lots of factory resets after that ... Luckily didn't turn my phone to a construction material ...

Do you still have the 404 on yours or downgraded because of this ?

I would be inclined to flash a stock ROM on it now, via Odin, with no wipe or factory reset.

I must confess, I never flashed the LQ5 version myself as I was waiting for a Siyah kernel and JKay framework.

Siyah kernels have had the anti brick bug in them for about the last 6 weeks, so you should be safe to use them.

Seems you have been extremely lucky Mehrad!

Getting slightly back more onto topic, I sometimes make the decision when I want to flash a new version of a custom ROM that I also want to flash the corresponding stock ROM version in Odin first, for reasons already discussed. I might do this for a new firmware, but when I will definitely do this when I eventually go from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.

If you want to flash a stock ROM before your custom ROM, then you would need to flash the following:

1. Stock ROM (via Odin)
2. CF-Root (via Odin)
3. Old Bootloader (via Odin) (optional)
4. Your custom ROM (via CWM)

This can all be done basically in one hit by unticking the Auto Reboot option in Odin. (this is usually ticked)
By unticking, you can flash (1.) - (3.) one immediately after the other, ticking it back on for (3.) and when it reboots, do the old VOL-UP+HOME+POWER so you can get straight into flashing your ROM.

Saves a lot of time.

Thanks pal,

Now that this BrickBug is going on I probably should stop fiddling with my phone, specially the stock ROM which is effected.

I also can't install the Got Brickbug app for some reason. Them I am kina paranoid ...

GotBrickBug is just an apk that you install, so dont know why you cant do it.
What does it say when you try to install?

Donno ... it's just playing up ... Mayne one of my apps is messing with the process. Avast or something ...

Hi fellas,

I am just about to switch to the NEAT ROM. There is one thing I want to clarify before doing it.

Does stock FM radio work in this ROM or it fall into the same category same as Resurrection and other modifies ROMs.

Also let me know if there are any flaws that I should be aware of.

This is the process I am gonna take Since I have the LQ5 BrickBuggy ROM and I am not sure my chip is the faulty one:

  1. Flash GB rom using mobile Odin ( since apparently its saver than PC version)
  2. Root
  3. Flash Siyah
  4. Flash NEAT lite
  5. Flash Siyah
  6. Factory reset, wipe cash, wipe delv...
  7. Restore apps Ti
  8. Send the victory message using this phone or Comment from my pc using my phone as a door stopper.

And by that time I hope the BrickBug App will work and I can check if my chip is a one lucky mate ...

If your going to flash Neat Lite you could be better of flashing LPG (or LPI depending what version your going for) through Odin first before flashing the matching CF Root as these are ICS - not GB.

Quite a few people (myself included) had problems coming from GB to ICS - hence flashing Stock ICS before the ROM.

I don't know if makes any difference but I always flash Kernel (Siyah) after the ROM - some ROM's install a Kernel so flashing it before the ROM prob isn't necessary.

Enjoy NeatLite - it's best I've used for long time.

My understanding from what you said is that you don't recommend moving from GB ROM straight to the ICS modified ROM such as NEAT. Which totally make sense.
My main point for going to GB before flashing NEAT was to defuse the BrickBug problem. If you have heard of this nasty fella, the GB ROMs are immune to this bug. If you still think it's unnecessary please give me a yell.

Good point. Now I think why I was planning to do that :D Maybe to have the "install from the zip" in my kernel then I can install the NEAT. since I'll lose this option if I put stock ROM and not too many ROMs these days have Odin tar files.
As I said I might be totally wrong. I am 2 weeks old in this field.

Thanks again for your help

I downloaded brick bug for my phone and said I was at risk, it's just about being careful and with Neat ROM you'll be fine if done properly. The main reason was to avoid little bug issues and problems that became apparent when switching directly fro. GB to ICS. But some haven't and had no problems. There's no definitive way.
Once u install stock ICS, flash the corresponding cf root. This gives u recovery access & easily let's u install ROM's, kernels & any .zip file u like.

Too true. I am gonna take your advice.
This is what I have done so far:

  • I have installed mobile Odin
  • Flashed a stock GB ROM which my mobile phone had when I bought it (Downloaded from SamMobile)
  • Connected the phone to Kies and it successfully recognized the phone.
  • It found a new firmware which I was expecting.
What I am going to do is:

  • Update the phone to ICS through Kies ( taking you r advice don't jump from GB to modified ICS ROM)
  • Root using the relevant CF-ROOT.
  • Put NEAT Lite the latest (UHLPS_NeatRom_Lite.zip)
  • And put Siyah Kernel.
Put still I have this question in mind that after all these are my Camera, FM radio and etc gonna function properly or I am gonna have the same problems that others have with Resurrection remix with the camera and etc ?

Do you expirince any issues using NEAT?

I don't know anything about resurrection as different rom & I've not used it. Everything works for me that I can think of, Neat really is a good ROM, You only have to read the comments to see & Developer is helpful.

I'd be surprised if, if you flash/install properly, you have any problems.

I just finished updating to ICS 403 using Kies. Now I am going to put CF-ROOT using PC Odin and Flash NEAT Lite...

The old GB didn't come up properly in the way that some message was showing up on and on and didn't let me set up the phone and I had to do the factory reset. Crossed my fingurs and did it. Was succssful. Installed The Got BrickBug and he told me I am in risk. Then Woof... Breath taking was that ... :smokingsomb:

I'll keep you posted after I'll finish. Hopefully nothing comes up.

Oh Man.....

I am here with all the good news. All done. flashed the NEAT UHLPS NeatRom Lite (1th July 2012) and I can tell that I have never loved my phone this much pal. It's absolutely amazing. She is beautiful.

With big thanks for IronAss, Hawker and Cozins17 for their amazing recommendation and helps.

The JKay isn't out yet for my ROM but will install it as soon as it comes out to have the nice features and also having a donation to that developer. He did an amazing job with NEAT. very active on his forum.

For now I'll make a backup and install Spell Check and 15 toggles MODs.

Cheers

Edit: Battery life on this ROM+Kernel IS AMAZING ... it's fairly end of my work day and I still have cash 50% battery left ... Unbelievable ... My battery is normally done by this time of the day.

I've tweaked jkay framework for UHLPS. Take a look in the Jkay thread on here

Cheers pal,

I am downloading it. Wondering to know if it works with Spellcheck MOD at the same time. since I am planning to install that afterwards.
Probably I wont do that and wait until you reply to this.

Thanks heaps again. Have a good day

It will work, but you will lose functionality, depending on which you install first:

1. Install SpellCheck then JKay
Here you will lose the ability to toggle spell checking on+off

2. Install JKay then SpellCheck
Here you get the spellcheck toggle, but you will lose correct functionality of the Power saving quick toggle

If you frequently use both toggles then your stuffed
If you always keep spell checking on and use powersaving toggle then install spellcheck, ensure the option to check is ticked then install jkay
if you frequently toggle between spell check on/off, then install jkay first.
If you dont use either then it wont matter which order you install.

This is like a three factorial (3!) combination of the all possibilities, pal . Thanks for your extremely precise answer and for your time.
Appreciate it.
