Help ICS: Transformer Shutting Off Mysteriously

I had the Mysterious turn off once last night, and not since. I left mine on all night.

I have not had the boot loop.

When mine turned off I just held the power button for probably 15 seconds and it rebooted.
Same thing happened to me. I guess I will have to let it run out of power and try to boot it up then. :(

Since my last post, I've been using the standard power control widget to turn off wi-fi when I'm not using it. So far, this has worked as far as the really annoying behaviors. I still hear the odd power connects and disconnects though from the tablet when I first open it and some time after I close it. (Tablet and keyboard dock.)

This kind of makes me wonder if some of the coding used didn't come from an older build of Android. I seem to remember an issue something sort of like this with the battery draining due to wi-fi not turning off on a previous TF and Android build.

Hope I am not making a duplicate post if this has been covered here.

Got some info from Asus tech support after an hour on the phone. Seems to be
working so far. You'll need a blank Micro SD card.

From your PC go to support.Asus.com and search TF101 in the search box.

Click"download" then "Firmware"

Look for your version of the transformer. Mine I is 9.2.1.17 US

Extract file to blank micro sd and insert into tablet. You'll see an exclamation point pop up in the bottom notification bar. Tap it, and it'll do the rest. Good luck!

Everybody should really consider installing this firmware update. Although I've only had it installed for about 12 hours bluetooth stays connected and i haven't had a reboot yet. If it remains stable i'll repost it in its own thread

@Jeremydm & s_special, You can do that update over the air (in settings-about tablet) and I just ran into my first "dead sleep" and it running the newest firmware.

Update. I received my Transformer back from Asus warranty repair Friday. They returned the same unit with the notation that no problems were found. Within the first 24 hours i went to use it and it was stuck on the boot screen requiring a reset.

bastards! record a video of it stuck in a reboot cycle or on the balls bootup screen, and (other than acknowledging that there's a problem), get them to refund the shipping fee.

It was a risk that I predicted was a possibility. They did a data wipe (even though I had done that prior to sending it to them) and I am sure they booted it, ran a few diagnostics and said A-OK. I'm sure they never let it sit idle for 24 or more hours, which is when the problems usually occur.

I am also sure that they are well aware of the problems by now and are working out some sort of damage control like the Prime GPS issue.

Since ICS I have been getting only the random Deep Freeze usually about once a week if I vigilantly turn off my wifi. Now yesterday I got the boot loop issue for the first time since ICS. So I got that going for me, which is nice. I was waiting patiently for an update from ASUS but my patience is wearing very thin. Its almost time that I flash root it back to honeycomb. I will give them another week or so but I might as well take the chance at this point. In a given week I am only able to use my tablet about one day as it is now.

This seems a bit strange, but I have had luck with the Stay Awake option in Developer Options. I think someone has mentioned this before, but since I enabled the Stay Awake option I have not had any more stuck reboots or "deep sleeps". Nor have I noticed any loss of battery life from this option being enabled. FYI I have WiFi set to never turn off.

crikey, no one really knows whats going on or causing the issue exactly?

the random reboots have stopped, but maybe cos i actually turn off the screen via the power button before i shut it in the netbook form.

the BIGGEST issue for me at the moment is that the stock browser seems to have issues with pages with lots of java. in the sense it just white screens on me and the only way to get it to load properly again is to scroll it back to the top of the screen...which doesnt help when you're about to pay for something and the pop up just white screens on you!

and i guess this is why i wasn't too bothered about getting ICS until its properly tested - HC was wayyy more stable, but im sure someone will come up with a fix eventually! (fingers crossed)

From what I read on xda yesterday, no, Asus doesn't yet know what's causing the problem. Someone mentioned they sent their TF to Asus and they sent it back with the, "we couldn't reproduce the problem" response. Hopefully they will figure it out soon. Installed WakeLock last night so we'll see how it helps.

Yup, WakeLock has done well for me too. A little more drain on the battery but not too bad.

I might try this. I am having various issues (DeepFreeze and reboot loop) at various times (Last week I went without 1 and this week its happened twice)

Has anyone seen anything or heard anything about them fixing this or have they now just abandon the original TF and focused on the TFP?

Auto airplane worked for awhile but failed after a few days. It seems to be a deep sleep issue & wake lock app does the trick

Update on just using the power control widget that comes standard with android. I've been using it for awhile now. I just shut off my wi-fi when I'm done using it and haven't had any issues. Battery life has been amazing. Even if they fix the software, I might still do this.

YMMV. I tried this for a while and it worked for maybe 10 days or so, but the reboots continued. I'm using wake lock and that seems to be the workaround for now. I would also remind everyone that this problem is being seen on other devices as well, so I tend to think it's an ICS problem and not solely the T101.

Odd, I've been doing this for two weeks now and not a single hiccup since I've been manually turning the wi-fi off when not in use. In fact, the TF feels pretty solid as long as I remember to do that.

The whole thing is still a bit of a mystery to everyone, including Asus and Google, I would venture. It could be a mix of apps and settings that triggers it or it could be a variation in chipsets during manufacture. Whatever the reasons, some people haven't had any problems while others have had good experiences with turning off wifi, notifications or using auto airplane. So far, the only workaround that seems to work all the time is wake lock. Of course, that may simply be too small of a sampling to confirm.

I downloaded the Wake Lock app yesterday morning. Just a minute ago I discovered the tablet on the Asus screen with the frozen circle.
