Root Idle Hands, So...

I was supposed to be productive today, but you know how people let you down! Anyway, I decided to try to flash my first ROM. I followed all the instructions, rebooted from recovery mode, and nothing. All I get is a different startup sound, the LG screen, then black. It just vibrated for no reason. What step am I missing? Tried to flash the Green Machine theme, then Bumblebee, then Harmonia. Thanks for any help, guys!

between flashings are you deleting everything required to flash the new ROM. Green machine isn't a ROM. It's a theme for the backside ROM. Which recovery do you use? What screen type does your phone have? Have you made a custom recovery of the stock setup?

Go to the backside ROM thread and delete everything they have listed. Then follow the directions exactly

Okay, so my dumb ass just downloaded Backside. Did my backup, then all my wipes. When I rebooted, I got the Backside screen, then the green Droid animation, but now it seems to be frozen. I'm not clear about the gapps, and I think my phone is an older one according to serial numbers. What did I do wrong this time?!

Did the boot animation actually freeze and stop or did it just continue circling? The first boot can take up to ten minutes

It froze and stopped. Didn't know it could take that long! Another thing--since I'm already mucking this up, can I go ahead and delete Harmonia and Bumblebee? They're just taking up space. I want to stick to Backside till I totally get the hang of things.

That's up to you, I'm a digital pack rat. Just follow Jerryscript's instructions carefully, treat this as an install from another rom. You flash gapps after you flash BACKside, the theme zip is optional.

Start over fresh. Redownload the backside file and everything. Then follow these directions exactly. Flash gapps after you flash the rom.

---Installing from another ROM

1) Backup your apps with something like TitaniumBackup or MyBackup

2) Download the BACKside ROM zip file, the gapps zip file, and optional GreenMachineTheme zip file linked below and place them on your sdcard

3) Boot into recovery

4) Make a backup

5) Wipe cache, and under advanced wipe dalvik cache

6) Under mounts, format boot, system, data, and cache

7) Flash the BACKside ROM zip file

8) Flash the gapps zip file

9) [Optional] Flash the GreenMachine-UOT zip file for the Green Machine Theme

10) Reboot your phone

11) Restore apps, but DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM APPS!!!

12) Enjoy yummy gingerbread and the CyanogenMod goodies

You can delete them. I think backside is a much better rom than those froyo roms. I deleted those files after I used the roms for a while. You can flash backside and get it setup nice then make a backup and you'll always be able to restore the backup if you try another rom and don't like it

Make sure you follow steps 5 & 6, that is what will make the difference when switching to a different ROM. Failure to properly wipe/format can leave behind data fragments that are not always overwritten by the new installation. ;)

Ohmigod, it worked, yay! You guys are the best. Now for my apps, how can I restore them?

Never mind, found the way. It'll take a second, but I'll get there. Best board ever!

Maybe I'm not so okay. My market's gone, and so it Titanium Backup. What next?!

If you install gapps from the link I gave you market should appear again. Then you install TiBU from the market and restore apps. Do not restore any system or Google apps

Thanks, guys. I think I did eventually download the gapps from the link above, but no go. I don't understand. I had previously backed up everything to my PC, but when I use a file manager to open files on my phone like Titanium, there's nothing there. It looks like the file type changed, the icon is a sheet of paper. Crazy?

Your market app will be in the app drawer, then you have to download Titanium from the market so you can access the Titanium folder on the sd card and restore your apps.
