If your a long standing sprint customer you should read this.

Chat won't work, I talked to them about it and they said maybe rententions could do it.

Which brings me to my next point, if the initial person won't give it to you (or says you will lose eligibility of upgrade) ask if they can transfer you to retentions.

I'm gonna call them today and see if this will work for me.

I found mine under the My Device and Media Tab, just right of My Account.

Save $150 on a new phone now!

We love you, and to say thanks for spending time with us, you qualified on 08/01/09 to save $150.

Upgrade this phone.

You might wanna edit that link to "upgrade this phone" out of your post. ;)

My secondary lines are able to get it as well. If i had renewed the next line it would have been 140 instead of 70 but my sister wants to see the evo first before she leaps :D

thanks for the reminder, OP.

I'm on the phone with a CSR right now. She is applying the $50 credit to 2 of my lines right now (for a total credit of $100 towards my next bill). After checking with her Supervisor she said the 3rd line is not eligible until March of 2011 (when the contract expires on that line) or few months before.

Initially she denied the credit on my main line because I was out of the contract for too long (since 2007) but that did not make much sense and I insisted so she checked with her Supervisor and he approved it.

Also I'm thinking that the credit amount was only $50/line not $70 because I am not a Premier Customer. (Premier Customer = have to have been with Sprint for 10 years+ or have a recurring monthly bill of $99.99 and above).
I've been with Sprint for only 7 years now and my bill is usually around $120 but they only take into consideration the base amount of you plan (no add-ons or taxes), in my case $89.99 for the Family Fair and Flexible Plan.

again, thanks OP.

cheers

I too was able to get sprint to give me 70$ off of my bill today without having to give up my phone upgrade discount eligibility! Thanks for the tip!

I did end up having to speak to a couple of different reps before I got to one that was able to do this for me but the 15 mins on the phone is definitely worth 70$.

Thanks, I think I am going to call back. My girlfriend has been out of contract since 2 years+ maybe that's why she wasn't approved too. Gonna insist on talking to the floor manager when she gets home.

Sprint customer for over 10 years but not a premier customer because my plan for two lines has been less than 100 bucks. I called to get the 70 credit and she couldn't add anything because she couldnt see a credit on my account. I kept pushing the fact about she should be able to add a credit if I upgraded the line only and still eligible for the phone upgrade. She said there was nothing she could so I asked to be transferred to retentions. Retentions said that tehy couldn't do that so I mentioned the 10 dollar charge for the evo and she said she couldnt do anything about that but would be able to give me a 10 dollar credit for the next two years. I gladly accepted and moved on.

He's right, I called about this a month or so ago (before I knew about the EVO) to ask when I was eligable for an upgrade. They told me it was June 1st, but that if I renewed my contract for two years as of the day I called in, I'd get a $70 credit on my bill and could get my new phone exactly the same way. I think the agent just wanted to lock me in to a contract to make sure I didn't change my mind before my date was up...which was fine with me, I enjoy Sprint.

Just saw that you have the Hero. If you got the "full discount" price on that phone and extended your contract for 2 years at that time, that would mean you still have 1 year remaining on your agreement (Didn't that come out last year?). At that point, it'd be understandable that you didn't get the $70 credit. If you're a Premier Member, it gives you phone upgrade eligibility every year, but it doesn't mean you're at the end of your contract.

For Premier Members that are on a family plan, only the Primary account number gets the "premier" benefits. Your online account should state, which is which.

You know I have no idea how I did it, but I got my hero at the end of January and now my upgrade was may 13th but is says Your agreement with us will be completed on 07/29/10. Could that maybe be why I was not able to get it?

Edit:
I am chatting now, I will update when I am done.

I had been debating on switching to another carrier.....AT&T, (there service here is pretty good.) My wife was not so happy with the possible change. I too was a Little weary of going to AT&T because of the stories that I have heard about their CS, and I have been with Sprint for 10 years, but I had grown tired of waiting for a "cool" new phone and my current contract expires on June 22. Just in time to get the new iphone.

Then the rumor mill started about the EVO. I did some reading, my parents both got new Motorola Droids, and I was hooked, I had more or less made up my mind that I was staying with Sprint. About a short time later, a Sprint CS rep called me and asked how my service was going and if I had any issues that he could address. Like all of these phone calls I get, usually about 1 a month, I rarely have any issues, just basic questions. I told him that I wanted to get the EVO and that I was actually awaiting its arrival. He chuckled then said, "if you are willing to renew your contract for another 2 years, Sprint will credit your account for a month worth of service and you will still be able to upgrade in a month and a half when the EVO is released" I agreed and should be getting a credit of about $135 on my next bill. This is the second time they have done this for me.

I called last week to possibly change my plan from everything $99 to the $89 plan. I was out of contract for about 2 weeks. She gave me same story about the $70 credit if i resigned and that i could resign without issue. I hesitated, then she said what about a whole month for free! I asked what if i hold out longer, will she send me an evo early (haha).

I did ask about the 30 day guarantee. Just in case i get the evo and it is just too big. FYI.. she said if you take the full month credit the contract is not subject to canceling if unhappy. But if you take the $70 credit, i can still cancel and leave sprint within 30 days and return phone.

Hope this helps!

That's right. I think I remember your story now. Anyhow, that may be the reason why.

So here is my outcome, still no on the upgrade eligible line, but i got the 70 dollar credit for doing the other 2 which were only just signed in Janaury.

Before I found out about the EVO I was eligible for 150 credit on both my lines but I didn't take it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay with Sprint. So, I called today and she said I have a $70 credit on both lines. She said that I would still be able to get the EVO at the upgraded price of $199. So, instead of my contract being expiring June 4th, 2012 (when i activate the EVO) it will be May 25th, 2012.

Well apparently my mileage is the only one that is varying:mad:

BASTARDS

I've been with sprint for six years now, I'm a little hesitant to try it because I get such random deals as is. Currently I'm on a 450 Everything paying only 49.99 a month because of some random promotional call. Things like this would give me that 70 credit, but reset my monthly bill back to normal price. ...Though I am about to get the EVO so it might be an option to pull a fast one for my bill, but meh.

Good post though.

I just called sprint and asked about this credit, and the rep applied the $70 credit to my account and said I can still get the Evo next week from best buy, thanks for the heads up!

BASTARDS

Yeah, I don't know why your situation is any different. I got 3 credits for my 3 different #'s on my account.

I asked multiple times if this would affect my Phone upgrade eligibility and the rep told me flat out, NO and that one isn't connected to the other.

Just to be sure, I even went on my Sprint online account to make sure it was still showing phone upgrade eligibility and sure enough, it showed upgrade eligibility for all 3 lines (although 2 of the lines aren't eligible for full upgrade until August).

So, instead of my contract being expiring June 4th, 2012 (when i activate the EVO) it will be May 25th, 2012.

I think you will have to "sign" an new contract when you activate your EVO on the 4th. That's at least how the rep explained it to me when I called Sprint yesterday. My account was only eligible for a $50 credit and the credit is there today. I'm wondering if the amount of the credit goes by how much your monthly charge is. My husband's line is out of contract so we may have a talk with retention when he decides to upgrade.
