If your Optimus V is working properly talk about it.

This does not apply to Li-ion batteries and may even be counter-productive.

This is actually good news: for regular usage pattern, just use your phone and forget about trying to optimize the lifetime of your battery.

If you know that you won't be using a battery for a longer period (at least several days), it's best to store it partially charged in a cool place.

Hmmm...well that may be true, but my batteries which have mostly been Li-ion batteries also have worked properly for yrs from me doing what i've just mentioned in my last post...but then again advise is just advise...lol...but batteries were ment to hold a charge, then decrease that charge....always keeping it charged will just lower the life expectancy faster...and this i know from fact....but keeping it partially charged in a cool place is the perfect idea....so pretty much it all depends on the persons usages.

I've had my Optimus V for 8 weeks now and not a single problem at all with the phone or any apps. Although I am not thrilled with the battery running out of juice so quickly.... Also the internet signal is pretty weak (considering I live in LA, it should be stronger).

Hello,
Newbie question here. I have never had prepaid phone service before so I have a question. I opened my V this morning and starting using it through my wifi since I haven't activated it yet. My question is, when I see how many bars I have now before activating, is that how many bars I will have once the phone is activated? If this is a dumb question please forgive me and thanks for any responses.

Love my V and the $25 plan. I'm coming from a $85 ATT iPhone 3G plan;and there is no comparison. The Optimus is faster than the iPhone 3g on wifi, & on 3G and app startup. I realize the iPhone 3g is not the latest greatest, but for $25 a month what can I say.

I've carried the Optimus V & the ATT iPhone 3G together for the last week+. At NO TIME did the iPhone 3G exhibit superior performance to the V

Am I happy with the Optimus V and Virgin Mobile? YOU BET!

On our phones (we have 3 VM phones) our signal is our signal whether we've activated or not. So I'll say yes, same bars.

Lizm,
Thanks for your response. I asked in another forum and a guy or girl said that their bars were lower before activation than they are now after activating. I was just curious about this so thanks again for your response.

Never thought I'd buy a smartphone, was happy with the VM 90 day plan with a cheap phone that served it's purpose... then I got to looking at tablets and Nook Color and thought I'd be happy with WiFi and not paying anything... then I decided to "splurge" and buy an Intercept. Wow! Never had a problem with it for the 3 months I had it, then I got the Optimus, even better!

It's fast and smooth and now I can't live without a 3G connection. In 6 months I crashed only once. It does "fill up" fast with apps, just got to learn to keep what you use... you can always download apps when you need them. My only real gripe is the small display (because of my 60 year old eyes), and squirrely VM network (like today with 4 bars at work I get a speed of 1916/714, but 2 blocks away at Wendys with 5 bars, I got 4/85), no issue most of the time I get at least 300/200 or so, I just find VM's network real hit and miss. Can't beat $25 for what you get!

Probably not, but this is not related to the phone's activation status.

In my experience, the number of displayed bars is essentially meaningless. Right now, I'm looking at two identical Vs on the table in front of me. One shows 1 bar, the other shows 5. Over the course of the day, the bars on my phone go from 0 to all in the same place. I've made many calls when 0 bars were showing, and the call quality was just fine.

The only thing the bars symbol will tell you is that if you see at least one bar, you know you have a signal. If you see no bars, you may or may not have a signal.

I'm glad to see that everyone's actually having a good experience with the Optimus V! I was a long-time Virgin customer, so the Optimus was my first smartphone. I got mine a couple of months ago and within a few weeks had converted both my husband and mother. I've had zero problems other than the occasional wonky app and am in love with my little phone!! :)

That depends if you mean will the bars be the same once you activate it and continue to use Wifi. If you mean after activation you use your phone carriers 3G network, then no because with Wifi you're using your ISP's network and with 3G you're using the network offered by your phone carrier.
Hope that made sense and that I didn't misunderstand what you meant. :p

I'm so selling my LG Optimus V....lol its a great phone, i've had no probs with it, but in a few weeks the Triumph will be here and its pretty much like the LG optimus v, just upgraded plus it has HDMI-Out....if i had to guess id say the Triumph will come out selling at $249. Either way id pay up to $350 for it....lol I've only had my optimus v for a month, and i love it...but the only thing that will make me upgrade will be here in a few weeks....fosho....thank you VM.

Hi,
I have been waiting to get the V with VM since April. So I got it and activated it on June 19th and cancelled contract with old carrier. I just wanted to say that I love the phone and I have had zero problems so far with the phone or service. I really appreciate this forum and everyone on here that has answered any questions I have had in the past. So, so far this phone has been everything I hoped it would be and service where I live has been great. Thanks

the phone itself works fine

only problems i've had have been related to misbehaving software (including a stock launcher that broke itself leading me to discover the joys of adw)

Sup well my Optimus V is still working great...no problems what so ever....figured id keep my Optimus V for another 3 months till i upgrade to the Triumph.

Once the initial sales on the phone ended back in February, and Virgin straightened out the network a bit in March, it's been fairly smooth here. I talk quite a bit and the $40/month plan is a no-brainer based on the competition. I don't really travel out of the mapped Virgin mobile service area, so once the network came around, it's really been a fairly pleasant experience.

I really can't complain for spending less than half of what all my friends spend for service to their dual core, handheld supercomputers.

A couple more quick things I'll add;

Just today, I was able to use the Google Navigation to its full extent. When adding the traffic layer, I was able to see a 3 mile area of freeway that had been turned into a parking lot far enough ahead that I exited and Navigated around it. That was pretty sweet.

There are times when I wish the screen was larger, but I'm quickly torn on the larger screen want as soon as I slip it in my pocket, unlike the bulging 4"+ screen phones. I am really starting to love the size of this thing.

Amazing little device for the intial $130 to $150.

Rooted the "V" Saturday(Gingerbreak apk.). Custom recovery(Xionia_recovery). Custom ROM(Harmonia) yesterday. Frequency is 600MHz screen on-320MHz screen off. I have been off charger now for 17hrs,13m and still have 68% battery. I have 82 apps currently installed:the ROM allowed most to go to sd card( I only needed Apps2SD to do it),I have 12 on the phone. A few I put on the phone because I knew they would not work right on the sd card. I still have 149.18MB of app memory on the phone. I use Launcher Pro with 7 screens and Multipicture wallpaper with a picture on each screen. There's no lag at all when scrolling thru the screens, even when looping from 1 to 7,or 7 to 1. It's a nice smooth fast transition. Even the app draw is smooth and fast. I'm going to see how long it will go with normal use before it reaches 21%,where it will go to 245max-122min. That may take awhile.I'll edit this post when it finally doe's and throw the time off charge numbers at yall. Am I happy with my "V"? absolutely!!! Can't wait for most of the bugs to get worked out of the new AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+(Gingerbread) that is able to run Flash Player 10.1. Then I would have it all and at only $25.00 a month WOW>WOW>WOW.EDIT: The phone went 32hours before getting below 21%(light usage-a few calls, and games,a little internet).

I've had my Optimus V for over two months now. Very happy with it. Standard ROM. Hasn't given me a bit of trouble. It took me a long time to replace the faithful Palm T|X I'd had so long with a smartphone. I think the Optimus V is an excellent upgrade. The $25 plan cannot be beat. I've found Android apps to replace all my Palm tools and I've found a few that my old T|X couldn't have done at all. Shouldn't have waited so long. Now that the price has dropped back to $150 another family member has jumped on board.

I haven't had any problems going on a month of use. Generally people without problems don't visit forums as much as those looking for solutions to a problem, so perceptions will always be skewed.

Not necessarily. There's a large majority of members who visit this forum to learn how to customize there phones, and to help others with that goal. Are only problem is that are phones don't quite perform,or look the way we want.

Have had mine over a month now. After I rooted it I had battery and connectivity issues. Installed
AsopcMod Angeles honeycomb go launcher with juice defender and now its fast and battery lasts twice as long. For my connectivity problem I used a copper wire and made my own external-internal antenna...full bars all the time instead of one. Since these fixes I have no complaints and it is the best phone little money can buy.
