Root I'm Bored :/

Rastaman-FB

Extreme Android User
Hi guys, as you probably noticed i haven't been about as much in the last month or so.
there are a couple of reasons for this but the main one is that im bored.
I want to come back here but there isn't much stuff that is new and interesting going that makes me all excited with the device.
Roms are all overdone now, DGB pwned all to the point where im at a stalemate and cannot be arsed looking for the holy grail and frankly as GB goes DGB is it (although he could add HW accel)
yes i could get into themeing it properly like mildwild did to oxy but frankly i don't have that time.
I'm not into the idea of compiling my own rom as again i already have the rom on my phone that i would compile.
so what's next? my contract doesn't run out till august and im waiting for the sgs3 cos the htc oneX doesn't cut it for me.

basically this post is a rant that is going nowhere but thought i would post it as the hardened regulars probably noticed my disappearance.

I'm bored too. Could add more features to dGB but since I'm aching for a new device, it seems pointless.

Desperately awaiting the release of the Huawei ascend d quad XL. Hurry up July!!!!

oooh that phone looks very promising although from experience that manufacturer is low quality in the past.
everyone changes and china is on the up at the moment

Yes there's a,question over build quality. Their MO has always been budget. But even if a budget company ventures into the high end line but cheaper, the build quality must improve also. If it doesn't its a no go but if it does, awesome

I think the fact they developed their own chipset from the ground up and its better than anything else on the market shows they're taking this pretty seriously

indeed

I'm getting somewhat bored, however I have an ace up my sleeve.

I have only flashed a total of 5 Roms and settled (rightly so) for dGB. When I get incredibly bored, I can flash plenty more roms. Why even now I have the tab open in XDA reading about the latest MildWild build. However, I have heard it's not as stable as once it was?

Ah well, I have another 6 months to mess about. Also, much like you Rasta, I am eagerly awaiting the SGS3 specs as the One X went from a high to a crashing disappointment. I'm hovering over the SGS3 boards now and again to read the rumours. But they are indeed only rumours. Getting bored of all the speculations and I want to see what Samsung have to offer for their new flagship series.

:D hi guys

im the same too! :/ :D run out of roms and now thinking.....mmmm....new phone :D
my fave at the mo is galaxy s2 - dont like ics stuff so far

..but ive got a way to go on contract yet :( .....so will try that new gb rom cronrom or sumink like that

cheers
dan

I own an XS with both those things, not the end of the world for me.
25gb for user data, my Desire only had 16gb storage.

The battery thing.. Yeah it's not ideal.

Each to their own. Its put me off and I'm stubborn as a mule :p.
Shame really as the hardware sounds really impressive. Also, with my experience on the Desire, I would happily buy another HTC handset.

Why are all the good phones becoming minitablets? I like the Galaxy S2 (and I'm sure I'll like the S3, but I wish the phones weren't all so big.

They look great in the shop, but they're bulky and don't sit in the hand so nicely as their smaller brethren (eg HTC Desire).

The other thing I will want is some kind of optical trackball (eg HTC Desire). It makes text editing much easier when you can nudge the cursor along one character, rather than trying to delicately tap in the right place.

Shame these are seemingly obsolete on the newer phones as I genuinely foung the one on the Desire very useful. I also agree that the Desire's screen size is perfectly good and the larger ones (especially the Note) I fear will be just too cumbersome. However I'd happily go slightly larger such as the SGS2/Galaxy Nexus, but I think any bigger I'd struggle with my sausages fingers.

Holding out for a sg3 as my contract is up next month. If i cant afford the sg3 i'm hoping it will bring the tariffs down on the sg2. Might just do a rolling month sim only deal this time.

But, until July comes, would it be possible to integrate USB Host capabilities into the Desire by ready-patching the kernel as mentioned in this post?

[APP][2.1+][ROOT] Usb Host Controller 0.42 - xda-developers

I don't know whether your ROM already implements this, but it would certainly be a nice feature to add. However, I totally got that part of your post where you said "it seems pointless". However again, adding a functionality that Samsung didn't get right would be a very nice feather in your cap ;)

As happy as I was just a couple of weeks ago, finally having the phone setup as I want it, it's really an empty feeling... Not even Tasker offers any new profiles to tinker with atm.

That's what you get for not buying "just a phone", I guess...

So of course I start reading the news, rumours and reviews...

Well I flashed Mildwild lastnight just for a change to see what I'm missing. First time off of dGB since November. Its early days yet but as I'm not keen on the Sony Ericsson launcher I've stuck on Go Launcher and as I have all my old apps and a relatively similar setup.. I hardly see the point! I'll stick with the Sony launcher for a week and play it by ear.

Way things are going, bet the SGS3 doesn't have a removable battery either :(

More i think about this, the more i think getting the sgs2 will be a better move for me especially if tariffs drop once s3 is out. Do i need a quad core phone? - for what i need it to do, no i probably don't.

Have to say, getting the desire was a great move for me - the active rom development and all the stuff i've learned from SU, Rasta, Hadron and others on here has probably provided the best "online course" in rooting/troubleshooting i could have found.

So to Rasta, SU and Hadron (when he appears) i say this - don't be bored, instead be proud to see all these young(-ish!) jedis whom you have schooled in using the Flash forging their own roots (ha, see what i did there) on new devices ;)

I got so bored I went back to Sense!

I'm actually quite enjoying it, though I don't imagine I will keep it for longer than a couple of weeks once the attractiveness of the weather lockscreen wears off.

After that I'm hoping ICS is at a usable stage to tide me over for the last couple of months of my contract.

I was initially planning on keeping the desire and switching to a sim-only plan for a while, but the nearer the date comes the more I get itchy feet for a new toy.
