Im officially Swyped out

Instead of just hitting the letter, stay on it and loop your finger around in a circle on the letter, then on to the next one.

Sort of like a Curly-Q shape:

you can do many things, I just do a circle on the letter to double it.

some people swype away then back on. the cool thing is there is no "one" specific way to do many words you can do it as you wish.

=-)

What about shapewriter? Anyone prefer that over Swype?

I recently reached temporary limit for DLs with Swype, and while I waited to receive a response from Swype's tech dept, I tried Shapewriter, since I had heard it was similar.

Not by a long shot...I'd rather use the stock KB than Shapewriter, which has none of the fluency of Swype. I just received word that my Swype beta acct has been reset, and not a moment too soon. Couldn't delete Shapewriter fast enough...

odd. after i installed swype i cant find it anywhere, and my keyboard is exactly the same. when i try to reinstall it, it warns me that ill be replacing another app but as far as i can tell its not there.

2.1? Go to keyboards in setting s and check it
Then long press a txt entry box. Input method, choose swype

thanks. already figured it out hough. do you know how to put a period without actually having to tap the period button? thats what im missing so far, the stock keyboard used to place a period after a double space.

Thanmks

And to answer this. not sure if this version will work. But I have seen "postings" for a droid version. ....

Does not work on Moto Droid, tried putting it on my moms phone, didn't work. Said it was too small for the screen or something

Tried finding one for the Moto, found it, but the trial was expired and didn't work on the phone.

So the answer is no, this doesn't work on the Droid and I don't even know if they have a Swype keyboard for the Moto Droid.

I've been using Swype for about 2 weeks now and yes, it is one of the best apps one my phone hands down. I'm a G1 owner and prior to this I used 100% of the time my QWERTY keyboard. Now, portrait mode has a no-hassle status once again! And I particularly like the add to dictionary function. After adding the word, this keyboard is even more accurate than the stock one!

For double words, you don't HAVE to do a swirly Q-tip.

I do kind of a mini-zig so i would go, H-E-LL-O, drawing a very tiny 'z', like, hit the 'L', make like i'm going to leave it for the 'O', but cut back really quickly to hit the 'L' again. I hope this makes sense -.-

I found Swype not to my liking, almost useless.

I am not real fast, but my typing method using on-screen boards is with my left index finger, and I do have a steady, rather quick rhythm about it. Swype turned out to save me about three seconds per average short text, and about 6 seconds on longer ones, as long as the texts were not technical in nature, then it failed all together, costing a lot of extra time going back to spell certain important words correctly.

I really don't need those extra seconds in view of the incorrect spellings Swype kept coming up with, in addition to the fact that many words I need to type are from a medical dictionary, which Swype has no clue about at all, given its silly attempts at forming some of those words (some of those attempts were rather amusing).

I just can't seem to get used to it... it was a good try at something new and different though, can't lie about that.

Been using Swype for over a month now and I have to say its the Best App built for this phone so far. If you have not tried swype you are really missing out on a Must have.

I agree. I don't even think I liked it at first but I really like it now and kind of hate typing on anything else.

I think this is one area they need to fix, that and contractions. I have a CLIQ XT which comes with swype. You not only have to hit the period but you also have to swype over the apostrophe for contractions (can't, don't, etc.) which is also a waste. Those things should be in the dictionary already. It isn't as if there's another close word to "dont, cant, wasnt". The stock keyboards recognize contractions without having to type the ' so why can't swype? Oh well, maybe next time.
