I really don't think so. You can download an app called "ESfile Explorer" that lets you move files back and forth from any computer on your wireless network, but you still need a command prompt to overwrite the boot animation, or at least a terminal emulator. Both of which need to be on a PC I believe, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone else will have a solution?

Please let us know if you figure something out.

so coming back to the original video...

it looks like the boot animation length is ~30 seconds (i don't know if that depends on file size or not, just going by timing the examples here)

who has the know-how to that the original video quoted here, and editing out as much of the 'matrix words' as possible as well as the very end were it says by verizon, and including that soundtrack without the voice (except the 'droid' at the beginning)?

because i have no idea how but sure would love it if somebody felt like taking on the challenge and sharing the results here! haha

Easiest way to get boot animations on your phone.
Try this on for size :
1) Download this file PutYourBootHERE.zip ? RGhost ? file sharing
2) Make a folder called PutYourBootHERE and extract the files from above zip file into it
3) Drop a copy of the .zip file for the boot animation you want -don't even have to rename it, the batch will rename it for you- into the PutYourBootHERE folder
4) Run the .bat file
5) Enjoy your new boot
6) Hit Thanks >>>

If you get a 'device not found error' make sure to run the HTC Sync app, that will make sure you have all the drivers you need installed.

The first time it worked without audio, I made sure the file was named android_audio.mp3, ran the .bat file again, still worked but without sound. I then thought, maybe I need to have the .mp3 file inside the zip file and then ran the batch again ... black screen of silence. I then removed the .mp3 from within the zip and ran .bat again, still black screen ... would you mind helping this nOOb? any ideas what I did wrong?

thank you

You were doing it right initially. He added a new program a few posts later that included the ability for sound. And with the mp3, I don't think it matters what it's called, just any .mp3 file. Use this download to do what you are wanting:

I uploaded a new version of the file for you. PutYourBootHERE2.zip ? RGhost ? file sharing
If you want to include audio use the RunMEnowWITHaudio.bat file instead. It will copy the animation and the sound.

Enjoy!

Thank you. So did the new one and first I got a message that said phone not found, I reinstall SYNC, my PC knows my phone exists, I do it again and I get adb shell expired ... killing ... device not found

sorry for being a pain, but now what?

Well, I finally got it. Here's what I did . . .
1. Set up HTC Sync & installed drivers
2. Followed the video tutorial
YouTube - How To Change Motorola Droids Boot Animation HD( Make Your Droid Look Like a Nexus One Pt. 2)
(I first tried a boot animation from the site he recommended)
Note: the renamed "bootanimation.zip" file needs to be in the following path: C:\Android\Tools
3. I properly disconnected the phone, rebooted and it worked perfectly
(Once I successfully applied and tested, I installed the custom Incredible one with audio)
4. Next, I removed the bootanimation.zip file
5. Then I placed Mattguyver's bootanimation.zip & android_audio.mp3 files in the same path location C:\Android\Tools (source: http://androidforums.com/805725-post374.html)
5. Next I followed step #9 & #10 from the "Detailed Instructions" (source: http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-incredible/93514-htc-incredible-boot-animation-guide.html)
6. When I rebooted everything was PERFECT!!!

Thanks to everyone for your contributions . . .
BTW, although technologically savy, I am a complete Noob to everything Android

Not really sure other than perhaps the standard reboot or try another USB port you haven't previously used. One thing I did and I'm not sure if it made the difference or not...I placed an exact copy of the PlaceYourBootHere folder (including animation.zip and the .mp3 file) onto the root of my SD card on the phone. THEN ran the RunMeNowWithAudio.bat file from the PC's folder of the same name.

I used Mattguyver's method, but I'd like to get rid of the audio. I've seen some directions for how to do it with sdk, but is there a way for me to do it with his method?

Thanks!

Mattguyver posted 2 separate downloads on Page 8 of this thread. One that supports audio and one that does not:

This download does NOT support audio. Don't add an .mp3 when using
PutYourBootHERE.zip ? RGhost ? file sharing

This download DOES support audio. Add an .mp3 when using
PutYourBootHERE2.zip ? RGhost ? file sharing

Take your pick. All credit to Mattguyver, I'm only reposting to clarify. His instructions are located on page 8 of this thread.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I deleted my old PutYourBootHERE folder and downloaded the older one without the option for sound, reloaded it with the same boot animation, and somehow the sound is still there. :(

Any more ideas? Thanks for helping a n00b :o

It's a sloppy, but easy, fix. Download a silent mp3 and use my putyourboothere with sound option to silence your boot noise. I found this one, its tiny and it works. http://www.minidisc.org/charman/1sec.mp3

why is it that some of the boot animations wont work with audio? so far i cant get audio if the bootanimation zip is "part 0 part 1". do i need to unzip the file and edit the 'desc.txt' file ?????

other than that, mattguvver's batch file works beautiful and easy.

One of the folders your animation pictures are stored in must be called android in order for the sound to play.

I should recieve my incredible in about 2 more weeks maybe a little less "damn month wait time lol" anyways i was playing with some of the sound files and made one i think is cool and seeing the lenghts of load times is about right. I have a way of changing the boot animation without having to go through all the terminal b.s. or recovery mode. (as long as you have root, that is...) There's an app in the market called boot animation changer. It's free, and has a few preinstalled boot animations. When you install this app, it makes a folder on your SD card called bootanims. Inside here will be other folders once you've downloaded and installed all the available bootanimations through the application (Droid, DroidIncredible, MIT, GreenDroid, etc...) it is these folders where the bootanimation.zip files hide. Switch one (or more) out in these files, reload it through the app, and it's changed!

I know this is kind of old, but I noticed that on the earlier two boot animations posted on page 2 or so, the eye is actually kind of stretched vertically. Is there a way to fix that, or a boot animation out there with a regular round eye?

Edit: Figured it out. It's because the Droid Eye's picture size is originally 256x256, so when it gets stretched out to 400x600 it messes up the aspect ratio. Looks like it would require just upping the canvas size of each Droid Eye frame to 300x450 and then pasting the 256x256 image of the eye into it. Shouldn't be too hard to do, just tedious and time consuming. I'll mess with it later tonight and see what I can come up with.

If you look a few pages back, I have uploaded a correct aspect ratio version of the boot animation:

I have modified ZeliardM's version to fix up the aspect ratio of the droid eye, and converted the images from png to jpg. This made the animation smoother.
