Root Incredible Boot Loop Tried everything

I hope you guys can help me. I tried to root my phone following these instructions http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-2-3-4-root-downgrade-s-off.html , but I only wanted to do the first step, as I didn't want to install custom ROMS, only play around with a few root only apps. Everything was going alright, but Superuser would not update. I read around the internet how to flash a new version of superuser, through ClockworkMod Recovery. After I did this my phone went into a bootloop, and I can't get out of it.

I am running 2.3.4 Gingerbread, the 4.08.xxxx version

HBOOT says

Microp-0417

I have tried various PB31IMG's but these don't take. A blue bar on the right side fills all the way up, and then says Checking but nothing happens after that. I have tried the RUU but it says my battery doesn't have enough charge to use. How do I charge the battery? In what mode would I charge it? and what mode would I put it in to run RUU? I am new to this stuff, so any help would be great. I fear I have bricked my phone. Do I have to clear anything out in recovery? like /system, other stuff? Also, I got all my files from this thread http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-return-stock-gingerbread.html

I fixed it! Even though no one responded to my thread, through searching, I found the solution. (At least this worked for me) I switched SD Cards to a Samsung one I had laying around. I formatted that to FAT32 a bunch of times, then I downloaded the Stock Gingerbread file from http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-return-stock-gingerbread.html I MD5 checked every time I moved the file. After much patience it sorted itself out through HBOOT and everything is back to normal. Thank you

Ok, I think I'm having the same problem you did. I'm stuck on HBOOT. If I go into recovery, the phone just restarts again into HBOOT. I just want to install stock Gingerbread.

Problem is, I don't know how to mount the SD card so I can load the ROM on there. There's no option in HBOOT to mount, so I don't know how to load any files on the phone.

If I can just manage to mount the SD card, I think I'll be fine. But I need to know how to do that. Thanks for any help.

Wow this feels weird, helping someone out with their phone, when you were the new guy a day ago. But anyways

This may or may not work, never tried it myself, but through my information searching, it sounds like Clock Work Mod was never installed properly. You are probally going to need a micro sd reader for this. Try downloading the newest clockwork mod Here, at Clock Work Mods website Name it PB31IMG.zip load it up through HBOOT, and install it. Restart the phone. Then go to recovery, then mounts and storage, mount USB remove the clockwork mod PB31IMG.zip and replace it with the stock gingerbread PB31IMG.zip.

I just typed this all out, and then I realized you could skip everything, buy a microsd reader, and put stock gingerbread on it. Either way you are going to have to spend about $5, but that is better than a $100 paperweight

Hello everyone. I have a HTC Incredible and am just a regular user. No Rom/Rooting nothing. I captured some precious videos on the phone and I believe they are on internal memory [Did not set it to SD card].

My phone is going into continuous boot loops and does not come out of it until I remove the battery. I desperately want to try and retrieve the videos and then send the phone back to VZW. Can anyone please help me with this?

Luckily I can get th the HBOOT screen, but don't know what to do with it. I just want the phone to turn on once, so I can get to the videos.

Here's what HBOOT screen shows me. Please let me know if you need any other info.

As I said, I have never played with it from a develper or rooting point of view. So please help answer in layman's terms :)

Have you tried starting in safe mode?
Safe Mode - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC

I think I'm in the same boat as Gonzi. Can't get to Safe Mode since the phone never gets beyond the splash screen with the eye looking thing and the two red dots. It hangs there for a minute or two and then goes back to the "HTC Brilliant" screen and says "ddrrroooiiiddd" again.

Irreplaceable pics and videos of the kids, so would greatly appreciate any help to recover it. The Verizon Store said there was nothing they could do except replace the phone.

Thanks!
Mike

The phone doesn't need to completely boot up to get into safe mode...

Pull the battery, put back in, and turn on... While its booting up....when the second htc logo appears, press and hold down the volume DOWN key and press and hold the optical joystick, keep holding both until the lock screen appears.

Isn't that what going into recovery and reinstalling the rom is for? If you're in safe mode I can't imagine that its gonna he good for much of anything.

If you are stuck in a boot loop because of a bad app, you can boot into safe mode to prevent that app from starting up. Reflashing the rom won't fix that without doing a factory reset. Therefore booting up in safe mode, then removing the problem app is an alternative if you don't want to lose data.

Its the same reasoning you'd use safe mode in a windows environment, why would you reinstall the entire OS, when you can fix the problem from safe mode.

I've tried this a dozen times and it never goes into Safe Mode; it just keeps going through the endless restart loop. Any advice? Any other way to get into Safe Mode?

Can you access boot? To access, pull battery, then replace. Then press and hold volume down plus the power button simultaneously. If your boot screen comes up, let us know what it says. We may be able to RUU back to a working phone. And there is also a clear storage option there which could be a first effort as well.
