Root installing android drivers HELPPPPP

i'm in the middle of this process and came to. "" Run USBDeview and remove all instances of Android Phone"" a part I dont understand.... How do I do This process

This is what happened to me. I saw Android ADB Interface instead of Android Bootloader interface (under Android Phone) when I was trying to install the HBOOT driver. How did you get Android Bootloader to appear

Is "Android ADB Interface" the same as "Android Bootloader Interface"

Yeah what is going on here? The android adb interface was all good. The reason everyone wanted the old eng bootloader was for the fastboot commands in sdk in case you got stuck in bootloader. What hboot do you have beast?

I was using this: public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]

Is this old? Can I root with Android ADB Interface showing instead of Android Bootloader Interface?

All of this is all new to me.

Ha, work blocked that link.

Did you check our rooting for dummies sticky? it has complete instructions for rooting.

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

It has a link to the drivers you need. You will also want to install htc sync and then uninstall it! Im pretty sure it doesnt need to come up bootloader interface. Dont think mine ever has. But read that guide, its comprehensive and up to date.

The link I posted is the same as listed in "Rooting for Dummies". I just don't see the part where it is supposed to show "Android 1.0" under Other Devices.

did you see this...?

(Important Note: for some reason, my phone didn’t list an Android 1.0 as a selectable option. Anything listed as an Android is what you are looking for)
(NOTE: Some have had to Re-Install the HBOOT drivers a second time after the initial install.

Yep, I saw that. And I installed and UNinstalled HTC Sync on my Windows 7 laptop before all of this.

In Device Manager, I see "Android Phone" and in the dropdown, I see "Android ADB Interface".

I am wondering if that is OK and if I can go ahead and update that? Or did something happen that is not supposed to.

You should be good to go. I rooted my phone back in January on Win7 laptop, then about a month ago rooted my wives phone on same laptop. I uninstalled all instances of htc sync and then rebooted and reinstalled htc sync. Plugged my phone in, made sure it recognized it, then unplugged phone and uninstalled htc sync ONLY. Leave the drivers in there. Then I rooted her phone after that and all was good.

So as long as you see Android something or another you should be ok.

Thanks Nick and Evomatt. I updated the hboot drivers with no problem and I AM ROOTED! Can't believe it.

Yeah no problem man. Welcome to the world of root, an iPhoners dream, but our reality. :p

And like matt said, ask away. If you follow that guide he linked you will have absolutely no problems at all.

Best advice I can give you right out of the gate, is to flash Amon_Ra recovery instead of Clockwork. Thread here talks about that and how to do it, easiest is to just do it in ROM manager, scroll to bottom and flash alternative recovery and you will have it. Then make nand backup of your current setup, then flash custom ROM of your choosing, then make backup of that, then delete first backup you made cuz you will never look back. :D

Dude that is old man that was when I was rooting my phone. Lol

Thanks. I was going to delete some bloatware. Should I flash Amon_Ra first?

I would say yes, because the very first thing you should, technically, do is make a backup of your current setup plus your wimax keys. Then once you are done with backup, flash Amon-ra and then make another backup because backups can't be restored across recoveries...ie you can't restore CWM nand's with Amon_RA and vice versa.

Should I use Titanium Backup for this? Can TB backup wimax keys?

TB will only back up your apps and system stuff, however when restoring with TB going from ROM to ROM do NOT restore system data, you will probably encounter A LOT of problems. You can however use it to restore your data apps (ones from market) with data if you want. I usually restore them without data because I've had issues before restoring them with.

Make a back up of your rom with Amon_ra, reboot and navigate to it on your sdcard and rename it, then reboot into recovery again and make a back of your wimax keys ONLY, then reboot and rename that wimax_backup or something and save it somewhere safe.

I did all this and successfully backed up my ROM and wimax to my sd card and to my PC. I flashed Koni's Elite Series III
