Root [International] Danvdh ROMs

Hey so-called metal crack, don't shoot the messenger.
Blame Danfromcanada for cocking up his dates!
Proof here if ever I needed it!
:p

Excuses, excuses! I was given to understand that testers were there to pick up mistakes and errors. Blooming downright slap-dash if you ask me. Luckily you've got Syd and I, watching your backs.

I've put my own brightness settings into this build too so balls to you and the sloth! And you will regret the brighter screen when you are using it under your stained duvets brushing up on your "art"...It will make you go blind!......and the bright screen will too!

Your own auto brightness settings! :ahhhhh:

I hope you remembered that people in England have got electric lights in their houses.

They're, "art" istic videos by the way. ;)

Brightness is MUCH better now, I didn't go overboard upping the values either but you can deff notice the screen is more crisp

hawkers values were crazy :P, they look good but if I ship those i'll get a TON of complaints

Strangely enough, my problem with the CM auto brightness settings was actually during the day, indoors at home/work/pub. It looked the same as the screen does just before it switches off. Very, very, dim all the time. It was actually OK'ish at night and not too bad in sunlight.

We wouldn't have complained to you Danfromcanada. With Hawker, you have the same thing that English princes had in the 15th and 16th centuries... a whipping boy! :pound:

Right... testing time!

I believe the problem lies in the terrible light sensor that we have in the S4.

Download Phone Tester from the play store and select Sensors Status.
Then scroll down to see the value of the light sensor.
It's daylight outside (7:30am), and have have daylight coming into an unlit room (too tight to pay for electric) However, the sensor still reports 0. I wouldn't even describe my current lighting conditions as dark.
0 should be the value it returns in pitch black.
The sensor needs quite a bit of light to even start registering in the first place.
Its the brightness setting in this large grey area that causes all our problems.
In light-ish conditions (when this is still reporting 0) then a dim setting can look exactly that.
So if this is upped, then it looks much better under these conditions.
However, in extremely dark conditions this setting looks much too bright and can cause eye-strain, so the dimmest setting for the screen is then much better.

I think this is why there has been so much discrepancy in the brightness settings. Some say the original updated CM values are great (myself included) others say its too dim. This is probably because the ones who prefer it usually operate in darker lighting than the ones who didn't like it.

I have to agree with Hawker. At his behest, I installed Phone Tester yesterday and received a 0 reading indoors whilst it was early evening and again from 7 a.m. on a sunny morning, this morning.

Bearing in mind that the screen takes the lions share of battery usage normally, it is important to find a balance between the brightness/dimness of the screen and usability in all lighting conditions.

and have have daylight coming into an unlit room (too tight to pay for electric)

Why does that not surprise me!

Hawker's so tight... the only reason he got engaged to his, now, wife was that he accidentally swallowed some coal dust and a diamond came out the other end! :D

Hawker! Can we have a chat about these new auto brightness levels. ;)

Actually, I'm liking them, so far. :)

4.4.4 OTA updates have now started to come through onto GT-i9505G devices.
As soon as someone is kind enough to give Dan the OTA file, I don't think we will have to wait too long after to see another wee update.
:)

Android 4.4.4 Pure Nexus. Dirty flash over the Dan's Pure Nexus 4.4.3, with just a cache and dalvik wipe. Xposed framework installed, along with the latest GravityBox release, 3.2.1.

Nice one Dan!

Great work. Love the new brightness settings, got it just right!

Now that's enough positivity, back to the nitpicking.... what always puzzles me is that Dan's roms are very slim with all the crap removed, yet the pointlessly irritating "news and weather"app is always included. Why not get rid of this too?

Don't you get news up in Yorkshire Syd?
:D

I just freeze or remove it through TB, or just remove /system/app/geniewidget.apk from the zip before flashing

Updates in the OP

06/27/2014
-Lockscreen unlock ring in now centered (Great one Samsung/Google!) This is now fixed for you guys, the problem was in keyguard.apk and I fixed the derp they shipped.
-Updated google play services
-Enabled touchkey light control for ART users, simply type SU in terminal and then type touchkeys
-Updated google search (Pure Nexus build only)
-Reverted themed email in favor of stock email (Pure Nexus build only)
-Uploaded 2 extra builds compiled with another kernel for you guys with "battery issues" to try out, not all hardware is made equal and some might have a better experience, all I know is on stock kernel from google the ROM is running perfectly.
-Updated build.prop
*Do not turn my thread into a kernel thread, this is a ROM development thread and I'm 100% certain I've done all I can on the ROM side of things, it's very stable and most battery issues are your issue or your phone not agreeing with a certain kernel setup, it's all about finding the balance that works for you

should be final now, nothing wrong with this ROM. no need to update until Android "L"

I'm not sure about this Rom anymore, I mean I'm at my work and I've still 2hrs to go, yet I've had to swap out the battery already, 7.5hrs of battery, and it was nearly fully charged before I got to work.

Oh yeah and a measly 5hrs of screen on time! I mean wtf.....

Seriously,5 hrs is easy more than I've managed before, 4.4.4 is doing brilliant!I must have watched about 4hrs of burn notice! Lol keep up the good work Dan

Because the CM update took some time to appear, I've been running 4.4.4 GE from Dan for a while now. If I do a TB, would I be able to restore on the latest CM version of Dan's rom? Or would that be unwise?

as long as you only restore user apps
and safer still to restore apps only, but can try app+data first.

never use TB to restore system apps
