The title says it all :D Just curious to see how many people plan on doing this right away and how many will stay stock or wait.

Feel free to voice your reasoning!

Root, definitely.

Rooting only makes things better - giving me su access to the phone.

ROMing on the other hand - not 100% sure yet.

I think it'll be a while before I root. My main motivation to do it is to flash custom ROMs, and I'm sure it'll take some time before any decent ones come out.

I'm gonna do it right out of the box, if only because the process completely and utterly wipes the phone.

My GF decided she wanted her Nexus S rooted after she had messed around with it for a month and it was quite a pain to restore everything as it was (Titanium requires root).

The GNex should have a tremendous amount of developer support, and I would like to be able to tinker here and there as new features surface, whether it be a different rom, or overclocking, or... :)

Root definitely. As soon as someone walks me through it (it was literally 1 click for my Incredible)

I think I read on Phandroid that it was already rooted and painless.

Root, yes. ROM, probably not anytime soon.

I'm with you there. Frankly, ICS looks amazing and I see very little that would motivate me to move to a different ROM. It's not like getting rid of Sense.

That said, I would be eager to check out some CM9

I plan on keeping it stock for a while and then most likely root.
But this will be my first experience rooting and I'm going to need a lot of basic step by step help. :o

Although I replied that I'll immediately root, I'll probably play around with it for a week before I do.

New to android and not sure what the benefits of rooting are. I'm sure I'll learn about it somewhere along the line. :)

I will play around with it for a bit. When some irresistable ROMs come out, I won't be able to resist rooting.

Did the "playing with it for a while then root" with my Eris and Inc. I'm root'n this sucka right after it's first full battery charge!

Why not root? Without root you can't wirelessly tether without a Verizon plan, without root file management is much more difficult, without root you don't have full control of your device. Just my $0.02. My question is how long before we have S-off?

I'll root mine right away...I can't stand not having a busybox installed with all of the helpful commands to help searching and navigating things in the shell (I'm a Unix geek, after all).

Cheers!

I'm prolly going to play with it for awhile before I root... say... 24 to 48 hours. :p

Wheres the "no duh, i cant live w/out root" option on the pole.

But seriously, I will probably root it right out of the box because i dont wont to set up then re-set up(doing an oem unlock wipes data, right?). Also then i can just use titanium backup to restore my apps instead of waiting for 158 apps to re-download and then have to have me go app by app and re-set them up

This. I like what I can do with root (aside from roming). That said, I also prefer that when I am running stock, get home from a long day at work and see what I think will be a sweet Rom and it's time to do it, I can just do it. Rather than having to dig through rooting, then roming. I'll be rooting within the first week for sure.

S-off is for HTC devices. When OEM unlock bootloader is run, that's it. Bootloader unlocked!
