Root [International] Unbrick LG G2

I've registered here just yesterday after realizing that people were actually much more helpful about the LG G2 than the kind of support given on xda. In fact, it's when I saw that users like @iowabowtech are still hanging around threads and giving very helpful advice for a 2 years old device (and a big thank you for that btw) that I've decided to signup.
OK, now that I got that out, here's my headache:

I'd really like to buy a LG G2, but this thread (and a few others here and on xda/ frandroid), make me really nervous about the d802: will I just buy a fake one and be stuck not being able to install a custom recovery?

I was thinking that I will ask the seller if he can guaranty me that internals are all d802, I would go and risk it. And maybe kind of try to put pressure on him by telling him that if I see the MB or ribbon cable showing otherwise, I would report him as selling counterfeit products. A bit harsh approach, but that should hopefully get the truth out about it...

So anyhow, 1st post long enough: again sorry for crashing with this somewhat O-T post.

So what I'd like to know is: do you think it is a good approach to this (ask seller) and is there anything else I can do to minimize the risk of getting a fake d802?

Its definitely risky. If it's marked as a refurb, its extremely likely to have a non-D802 board. Your approach is probably the best possibility. If the seller is willing to remove the back cover and take a pic of the internals it'd be ideal. Many people might be skittish about doing that but it's really not difficult to do at all. Remove SIM card to get a better starting spot, then pry it off with anything plastic like a guitar pick, plastic disposable knife, etc.

OK, well I'm sorry to go on with sliggt off-topic here, but since I got unbrick master here, I thought I could add a little info on my situation...

My goal really is to get a G2 running on ~the latest CM11 build (M12 or which ever nightly). I don't plan of switching to 4G anytime soon and really, I only use 2G (gsm) and even without mobile data. But the carriers here in China are pushing hard for customers to switch to 4G with better and better offers in time - hence me looking into the G2 d802 variant.

But in light of the above, shouldn't it then just be safer for me to try to find and get just a plain US version (d800/801) so that I minimize the risk of getting ripped off? If so, which one is preferable in terms of h/w (replacement parts availability), baseband compatibility and sofware/firmware (and rooting/recovery availability) ?

I remember reading somewhere that there's no kdz for ATT(d800); so TMO(d801) better?

I don't know if the phones sold here are used, refurbished, built from ground up with cheap parts and then 'software/firmware tweaked' or actual customers' or companies' bulk ( <14 days) returned orders (like I was once told about a Moto phone). So hence my dilemma; I'd really like a G2 on CM11 but it is almost guaranteed that won't even make it to custom recovery no matter what (which one I buy)? Or if I do, will it be when I decide to reflash a stock rom?

From what I've read so far, it seems that their would always be a certain "safe" way out (with bulkmode), but at the same time, I'd feel kind of cheated and laughed at if I would ever have to resort to that.

OK well sorry for the long post again; I tend to do that. But in my mind: more info, the better and the lesser following posts asking what's your?, did you?...

Ok so in your situation you would be just fine with intentionally buying a D800 because the only phones I've seen tampered with is D802's. I'd go with the D800 because they work internationally. No need to worry about a kdz because we have tot files for the D800 which can be used in concert with LG Flash Tools to reflash the phone to stock should you ever need or want to. So here's what I'd do...

1.) Buy D800
2.) Check to see what version it's running. If Lollipop, you can either
a.) attempt root with the Lollipop method (I'm unsure if any newer lollipop versions have been pushed that would negate this method)
b) or worst case you can always roll backward to the 20c kitkat tot instead (via tot & LG Flash Tools back to stock method) and then root using Stump Root, then use the original Autorec for KitKat.

Then you should be all set with root and recovery to install your custom rom. And yeah, the G2 is unbrickable short of a genuine hardware failure.

i have d800 by at&t (written inside mother board after opening).
i was flashing d800 img file but it is not working on that and directly go to fastboot when ever i flash d800 files.but now i flash d802 files.i now get recovery and download mode (stuck with blue dots).but my mobile is now detectable on computer with lge modem etc.

but i am stucked in the download mode and when phone boot into bootloader and dead android appear after lg logo and sometime android try to refresh (like a heart come out of android cartoon and revolve and suddenly phone screen become black)

in this situation what i should do???
will i try d800 img files?
or will i try to fix the error in using d802 img files. (but how)???
