Root iOS ROM for Evo?

Android Expert
I know this is an old question and most of you will probably hate the question, but I felt that I wanted an answer.

Before the reason why people said it couldn't be ported over was due to the fact that Apple hadn't released a CDMA version of the software. Now with the newest release of the iPhone 4 to Verizon, is it possible and has it been done?

I want it for two simple facts 1) I don't want to buy an iPhone but I want some of its apps and it's not on our network anyway and 2) I just like being able to do different things with my phone.

I figure, iPhones can run Android, why can't we run iOS?

i haven't heard of anything. i would head on over to xda and see if any of the devs there are working on something.

you may want to check out miui. it is very iphonish in style and looks.

Hahaha I just came from there looking at the MIUI ROM. But thanks.

I heard that the coding was the same for Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile but not RIM so that's how those could port ours. I do realize that Android is freeware and the others have copyrights on them, but that hasn't stopped people doing it to other copyrighted materials. And I love Android and wouldn't trade it, I just like being able to show off sometimes too :D

I may add the MIUI though just for kicks and giggles haha.

I was wondering about one that could actually use apps off of the AppStore and all that.

I've used MIUI twice. It's very much like the iOS. But it wasn't quite my style, I think it was because it was too much like iOS. lol. But I suggest you give it a try. It's very fast.

I gave MIUI a try and it was great! Only real problems I had were finding my apps and the screen started to flicker like really bad. Once I used my backup the screen stopped flickering like that. I even did a reset on it and it was still flickering when I was in MIUI!

But it was very nice, I liked it alot and would've kept it if it didn't do that. The apps, that would've gone away after a while because I would've learned how to do everything.

I really loved the music and interface. Whoever put it toegther spent lots and lots of time on it to the point where an iPhone/iPod/iPad/etc. user could easily get adjusted into an Android phone quickly. In some ways, I thought they did a better job than Apple did! Although...I still would like a full port of iOS so I could get Apple Apps onto my device as I stated above just for fun lol. These clones are cool though.

Did you try changing the transitions or animations? (I forgot how to change it.)

I had the screen flicker/tearing also with certain kernels I flashed. When I switched to ziggys the issue went away.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is ziggys? I'm new to flashing ROMs.

You know...I actually know what you're talking about. I went into my settings and changed all kinds of stuff. One of the things I changed was from "some animations" to "all animations". It wasn't immediate that the flickering started, it happened a short while thereafter, otherwise I would've noticed it was because of my recent change. I'll try the ROM again and see if that changes anything. Maybe try this ziggys that stevcha was talking about.

Its a kernel that you can flash in addition to a ROM. It can provide more performance and better battery life. You can click on the link in my sig for the links.

What apps exactly are you trying to port. We have an iPhone to android convert in the house aand havent found many iphone apps that don't have an android counterpart

Anyone have pics of the MIUI rom? I want to see what it looks like before I bother flashing it. I've even gone to the developer's site and there's no pictures of it.

ndh...check this out if you haven't already...

market.android.com

it's super easy to navigate. use it like any other search engine...type in what the app was called or what you "want" it to do (much like that panoramic search.)

then just look around and try them out...you can even login and install them to your phone from the website.

on ios apps...if you can find out who made it, you can search that developer's name and you can see what they have made for android. We found many of them for Veronica that way when she made the switch....but honestly she is happy with wordfeud and scrabble lol

Okay, thanks. I'll check it out and upload it. Do I just flash it in Recovery like any ROM?

Thanks AGAIN Mr. Ed hahaha. I will try it. Well, it's a few apps. My friend switched from the MyTouch to an iPhone and he keeps showing me all these really cool apps he gets and when I try searching them on my Market, no where to be seen. I hadn't thought of checking the developer name though.

lol, well at least the research will help other people like myself. Thanks again!

I just applied the MIUI rom to my phone and I absolutely love it. Very responsive and awesome battery life. It's like getting the best of both worlds...iOs and Android. Gonna be keeping this rom for quite some time.

That's my first impression too zeux6...until the screen started flickering. Is it doing that for you? Did you change any of the settings, most notably the setting about animations? Just curious how it has worked on others' devices. I really loved the music as I stated above. Watch how the lyrics automatically pop up...amazing. They should ship Evos with that ROM lol

No....I haven't experienced any flicker issues. It just works so smoothly. I have it set to full animations. If this helps any....I downloaded one earlier that just didn't work for me. Then I found MIUI-Evo-1.3.4-EN-signed.zip and applied it and everything seems to run quite nicely. I hope I helped you some. There are some zips out there that don't run right.

Try to flash another kernel if your screen flickers

I'm going to flash that kernel you sent me stevcha. I have been trying a few other ROMs lately though, just hadn't had any time to load it up again and try it with the kernel. But thanks for the link again. I was just curious how it was on another user's device.

Ah okay. Yeah, I immediately flashed both as that what the directions were to get version 1.3.5. Just curious, thanks for the information.
