iPad 3

Apple will be introducing it in less than 12 hours in San Francisco. I am sure there will be multiple posts about it tomorrow, thought I would start a thread. I, for one can't wait. Had the first and I currently have the 2. I use my Galaxy S2 as a hotspot for it :p

I'm always interested in seeing what they will come out with. Just because I know that it will drive Android manufacturers to make something even better. Although, I will still be getting an iPad 3 for developing and testing.

I was disappointing to read that Apple will be using the A5X processor... No quad core :( I would much rather get an Asus Transformer Prime, but K-State @ Salina's policy is that aviation students MUST own an iPad... I really wish it would be quad core...

Why? Quadcore is major overkill on tablets and phones running a light mobile OS. I have never heard anyone complain their iPad 2 was slow...It's just another gimmick like megapixels that you really dont need in a mobile device.

There are several approaches to quad cores and among them are pairs of dissimilar dual cores for power efficiency (when the high performance pair isn't needed the high efficiency pair comes in) and another with a high efficiency single core to switch to (they changed its description from quad to 4+1).

So, quad core doesn

Thanks for that Early Mon. Wow, the new iPad is 2048 x 1536 (264ppi) the most in any mobile device. A5X quad core processor they say is twice as fast as the Tegra 3! Funny how the iPhone was always playing catch up to Android phones. Now the Android tablets are playing catch up to the iPad.

It looks nice, but I don't think I would go out of my way to buy one. (Mainly because of the OS.) I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Samsung tablets with the Exynos 5250.

We're looking at Twitter on "a Samsung tablet" -- it's the Galaxy Tab. "It kind of looks like a blown-up smartphone app running on a tablet -- and that's exactly what it is!"
I've only used an iPad1 but is the Android Tablet THAT bad? lol. Does anyone know what version of Galaxy Tab they are comparing the iPad3 to?

Yeah, it had better be more powerful than PS3 and XBox to have that kind of resolution. I will be honest, other than the resolution, its not really that big of a step.

Erm... Im still not so sure about this thing. I like how the CPU clock speed and amount of ram have not been mentioned, at least on engadget. Sure its got a high res display. The quad core (?) GPU looks alright but the thing looks optimized for games.

If MAY be a viable option if my Xoom keeps giving me a headache

The hardware is very impressive.

Dual Core Cortex A9 (Unknown clockspeed, I would guess higher than the A5)
PowerVR SGX543MP4 (WOW!)
2048x1536 Screen Resolution (Awesome!)

I hope the the Android manufactures up their games because this just outclasses everything currently available including the Transformer Prime, Yes the Prime has more processing power but it's seriously lacking when it comes to 3d performance.

That's kind of my take on it. It has a much nicer screen than the iPad 2, but other than that is essentially the same. It still lacks things like an SD port, HDMI out, etc....

It still lacks things like an SD port, HDMI out, etc....

On the model update for my phone, they took away my HDMI port and replaced it+USB with an MHL port, so now I need an adapter.

I think everyone is going to multi-purpose ports for various reasons, so while I find lack of a dedicated HDMI port a little frustrating, I can see where everyone's coming from on that.

And with several Androids going to no SD slot, I think that's just an unfortunate trend. Instead of everyone getting the importance of that, it seems that Apple taught others that people will go for a no-SD port solution.

I'm seriously thinking of selling my Galaxy Tab 10.1 because it has no SD slot and it's mildly frustrating for me.
