iPHONE 4 TEMPTATION... TALK ME DOWN!!!

Google navigation is the only thing that is keeping me from going to the dark side. There are so many great apps for the iphone. I am just about ready to jump ship. Yes the iphone is ancient (almost 8months old) and no it does not have 4g, but who knows what that will cost, how well the coverage will be, when it will expand to be an actual viable tool. Yes I am in a 4g market, but that is when I am at home or at work, where I can use wifi anyway. And who even knows if the tB will be worth the wait. What if the battery is really an issue?

Well I know that many people have already shared their perspective on the whole Thunderbolt iPhone 4 debacle but heres my 2 cents. It all boils down to what you want your device to do and how you want it to operate. I owned a droid when they first came out and I loved everything about it except the constant crashes and shut downs which was obviously the result of a young platform on an even younger device, a problem which I know doesn't really exist anymore. After dealing with the instability of the droid I dropped my verizon plan and switched to att and got the iP4 and it has been a totally different experience. I really really like the iPhone it just works so flawlessly, its smooth fast and very very well built. Now that being said for the last year or so since I got the iP4 I have felt a disant longing every time I use it for the ability to add my email to my homescreen or pull my notifications down from the top of my screen or change my theme with only a few buttons clicks. But thats simply who I am I want my phone to do what I want it to do just the way I want it to do it, the iphone does everything I need it to do just the way Apple wants it to do it. I'm going to be getting a Thunderbolt the day it comes out, but I know that when the iPhone 5 comes out that I'll miss that super thin sleek body and silky smooth interface but given the way I like to use my phone Android it is the right choice for me right now. Another thing to note is that iOS 5 could bring some major changes that could put it on par with androids feature set, but based on Apples common denominator business style I have a feeling it wont. So choose what does what you want it do and most importantly choose what does what you need it to do the best. Good luck with your whatever choice you make!

My take on the whole "Mac vs Windows", "Android vs iPhone" is the Apple product is like a Toyota or a Honda with an automatic transmission. It performs its duties loyally and has a good user interface for those wanting to commute from point A to point B. In contrast, Windows/Android is like a high strung sports car/muscle car/jeep with a manual transmission. It can be a little hassle at times, when it's cold it may not turn over right away, you tweak it here and there to get better performance out of it, but it's in the tweaking and personalization that gives you satisfaction. Not everyone's a techno-nerd and needs that level of control. A lot of people are perfectly happy driving Toyotas and Hondas. Just because you can't identify with them doesn't mean they're wrong.

I agree with you for the most part, but when it comes to not having problems Its much easier to live with a phone that occasionally crashes than a computer that does. I've used both windows 7 and leopard and can honestly say that when it comes to computers I need one that just works even if it means sacrificing some features, because I can deal with my phone freezing up but I can't live with a computer that does.

I set my DX next to the IP4 today in best buy..... can't see that the Iphone screen is that much better.... in fact, I MUCH prefer my DX screen overall when you consider the size difference. I do agree IOS is smoother by a bit.... but it is also a much more closed system operating on a nonfragmented hardware. I also played with a Xoom and ipad2 for about 20 minutes each today.... and I would say that they are about equal devices. Ipad2 is a bit smoother operating system again, and probably a bit nicer screen, but I still prefered the Xoom size ratio of the screen and still prefer being able to tweak/customize my rig. I also REALLY dislike proprietary anything.... so that is for sure the deal breaker for me. I'll stick with Android. My advice is to wait until the TBolt comes out and has at least a few weeks under it's belt before making a decision.

Hey guys, I was an iPhone user for over a year starting with the 3gs, then the 4. I really liked the iPhone other than some extra call drops (which I blamed AT&T) and the speakerphone wasn't that great as well as voice quality over all.

However, when I moved to South Austin, I couldn't hold a call for over 5 mins without dropping in my house. I still place most of the blame on AT&T, not the iPhone, but this opened my eyes to some other options since I needed to leave AT&T immediately. That's where I found the tbolt and put $50 down on it the day pre-orders started.

Recently I just couldn't handle the call drops anymore so I went to VZ and picked up the DroidX on the 14 day trial intending to exchange it when the tbolt came out. My 14 day trial ran out yesterday and I rolled over to Sprint with the EVO to continue to wait on the tbolt. Here's my comparison:

-Navigation- The iPhone was smoother out of the box scrolling than the DX though equal to the a EVO, but the DX and EVO are faster. Meaning they respond faster and move faster than IP4 in gui animations and navigating but the DX had an occasional hiccup making it chop for half a sec. I also love the EVOs default interface and sleekness. It appears to be very similar to what the tbolt will be though the tbolt will have much more power and some more features.

-Apps- The iPhone apps *almost* always worked perfectly as they were intended to work and they had polished apps for everything. Droid's apps are close behind but I found they offered some more functionality in some cases.

-Notifications- The notifications aren't even close, Droid KILLs the iPhone here. Apple will popup the notification for you to see which some like, but if you don't see it, it's gone. Droid will flash the small LED when the screen is off letting you know there's a notification. I can't tell you how many times I went to the bathroom at work and missed something and had no idea on my iPhone, but Droid flashes so I notice it. With the iPhone you have all your apps which notify you individually of an update, new message, or whatever else and it puts a # next to the app. When you go to look at your notifications you have to look across all the aps, often on different screens and clear them out individually. Droid pops the notifications all up in the menu bar which you just drag down and go to whatever you want to see, or clear them all in 1 click.

-Customizing- This isn't close either, Droid owns Apple here too. Out of the box you can completely change the way you navigate through programs using widgets and basic apps. Little things like increasing the size of your favorite app icons just completely do it. Theen there are the many other things like easily swapping everything out from virtual keyboards to default clocks and temp reading widgets/apps.

My wife was the one that talked me into the iPhone and like I said before I really liked it and she loved it as well as her iPad. But after seeing the droids, my wife was blown away and ready to bounce as well now when the tbolt comes out, she had planned to get another iPhone on VZ.

Some other things we like are the bigger screens, the better speaker phone and volume levels (I often end up on a call I need others to hear for work), removable battery, and not being stuck with proprietary iTunes.

On the other hand, other people I've showed with the iPhone like my in-laws (in their 60's) are a little intimidated by the Droid and are happy with the simplicity of the iPhone out of the box. They don't use any apps. They just use the phone, calendar, internet, and take pics/videos. Anything beyond that is too much for them. I'm sure I could customize a DROID to be even more simple, but the iPhone is perfectly fine for them so I'm leaving it.

So, I still like the iPhone as much as I did before, but I don't even consider it for myself after using the Droid.

my cool story, bro:
I bought my wife a samsung fascinate when it came out and she really liked it. She decided she wanted an iphone 4 for her birthday so i bought her one. When she got it she really loved it. It lasted about a week before she told me she couldnt stand the way the notifications were, and it was just really frustrating and complicated for her to use. I ended up trading it the next day for an incredible and some $ and she likes the htc more than she did the fascinate.

Yeah. I have a friend that just bought an iPhone4... I was playing with it and it just reaffirms my desire to stay the hell away.

Also I hate iTunes!!!

Sold my Droid X and bought a new iPhone 4 off of Craigslist waiting for the TB. Droid X great battery life, reception and call quality. Really like the iPhone. Dislike the notification system. Call quality and volume, reception and battery life on the iPhone is superb.

Biggest concern with the TB is reception, call quality and battery life. The 3 most important things in a phone.

thats why my family paid the early term fees and now use tmobiles unlimited data service and oovoo. "bleep" skype and "bleep" veriz-Con

Get a Thunderbolt. You'll never look at an iPhone again. You can always return it if you don't like it.

came home today with my thunderbolt in hand. overall very very pleased. the size is IDEAL. aside from a strange vibration/stutter in the app drawer that i'm trying to figure out it really is super smooth. not sure if that hiccup is due to the battery almost being completely drained right now before i recharge it fully.
