iPHONE 4 TEMPTATION... TALK ME DOWN!!!

I started with the Sprint HTC Hero. I then bought the EVO on launch day at full retail. I then started working for Verizon and sold my EVO to pay off ETF and got a Droid X from my work. I will say right now that the EVO was HANDS DOWN the best phone I've ever had. That being said, I hated my X, so I sold it and bought an iPhone 4 to see what the hype was about and to learn it since I have to sell it now. I've had it since the 15th and I can't stand it. I hate the apps, everything I want costs money. I hate the screen, its way too small. I hate the camera, the zoom makes the pictures look like crap. I hate having to have itunes, I hate having to type my password every time I want to download an app, I hate how on the dial screen I can't start spelling a name and it narrow down from my contact list who I want... I have to go to contacts, then find the person, then click them and then click call. I hate not having GPS for free, I hate not being able to pull my battery, and most of all... I hate that I spent money on a phone that isn't any better than my HTC Hero was, with the exception of how fast and smooth it is. I can tell you right now... I will be selling this POS to get a TB as soon as its out.

Wha choo talkin' bout Willis? Apps are amazing and tons of great stuff. $99 to $2.99 too much to pay folks for there efforts?

If you are referring to more phone related stuff, I agree 100%

iPod is nice, but iPhone..... Not good for folks that are comfy with Android phones.

Even if you don't have 4G now, you will probably have it within a year unless you don't live remotely close to a major city.

the still camera and video quality are generally regarded as well above average for the i-phone, no? i suppose resale value is another factor as well. i-phones retain their value very well whereas i have a strong feeling that the thunderbolt's premium price will only last a matter of months. anyone disagree?

Why should I have to pay for something that should be free? If you went to McDonald's and they charged you for ketchup, would you be ok with that? I doubt it...

The professional things, I understand. But if I want an app that say lets me look at pictures of cool Mustangs... I shouldn't have to pay $2.99 for it when I can go to google and do image searches and get the same crap for free.

I sold my EVO after having it for 5 months for $380 with no accessories other than what came with it. I sold my Droid X after having it for 3 months for $400 with the car dock and original accessories. The iPhone 4 CDMA used is going on Craigslist (here in SW Missouri anyways) for about the same price and it's only been out for 2 weeks.

Also, saying the TB being $250 is too high when you're considering buying an iPhone... doesn't make any sense. The iPhone 4 is $200 for the 16GB and $300 for the 32GB, so the TB having 40GB total and being $250 and being a better product is more than reasonable IMO. I have no problem paying that price when you compare it to the rest of the stuff Verizon has to offer.

with each day the TB is delayed I keep leaning towards to iphone.
1. netflix iphone yes, TB no
2. skype iphone yes (wifi) TB no
3. native support for MS Exchange email iphone yes, TB No
4. eye-fi app, iphone yes, TB no
5. works and is available for purchase, iphone yes, TB no

top 5 reasons why i want the TB instead of the iphone would be...
1. larger 4.3 inch screen
2. connection to 4G LTE network
3. HTC Sence
4. GPS maps built into phone
5. removable battery and flash card.

what is this HTC Sence you speak of?

first off i misspelled sence. it's the HTC sense HTC - HTC Sense
i am still on dumb phone waiting to upgrade so i am not an expert or know what i am talking about but from what i gather sense is the UI for the phone. i think each manufacturer has their own user interface to complement the android OS. HTC has sense, Motorola has blur.

I'm about to drop 99 cents on Angry Birds on my wife's iPhone. I think 99 cents is more than reasonable. I think that game has cost me more in wasted time.

I just made the jump from an Incredible to an iPhone 4 and they are both great phones. The iPhones' non-removable battery is really a non-issue for most I'd guess because it makes it through the day with no problems. That was my major complaint with the DInc and I think will be even worse with the TB because it only adds 100mAh to the battery and it has a larger screen with faster WiFi. My DInc barely makes it through the day with the Seidio 1750 mAh battery.

No platform is perfect and I have gone from BB to Android to Apple in the past year or so. I would love to combine elements of each platform into a personalized "superphone." But like any technology purchase, it boils down to what suits your needs/wants best at the time you're ready to buy. The crop of phones out this spring/summer will be fantastic, but won't look quite so hot this fall/winter when the next wave of phones hits.

Yeah, I went from a Droid, Droid Incredible, and Droid X to an Iphone 4, and there are major differences. The one thing that makes me like the Iphone more than any android device out there, is that it doesn't force-close, and have other Android os-related crashes and random reboots. Its the most stable os that I've seen.

I dunno man. iphone is nice and all but.. I like being able to replace my battery without consulting a college dropout whose job title is "genius" to fix my god damn phone over something so insignificant as a dead battery.

You would be replacing your phone before your battery ever completes its lifecycle.

To be honest, i have just got the iphone just to hold me over until thunderbolt comes out if thats within 14 days just because my brother had one and he recommended it because of battery life.

I can say that I love the battery life on it. This is the only phone that I can use all day and still have battery left over. Yes it depends how much you use it, but I use my phone alot.

As far as thunderbolt goes I have preordered it and verizon keeps on delpaying it. if it comes out on the 4th I will still be only 12 days in to my service. I will only return this phone because I really love big screens.

I hate apple to but I will be the first one to admit they make damn good products. I hate apple but I dont hate their products they are one of the best ones you can buy. I went out to check out a 27inch imac and oh boy this thing was a beauty. I grabbed it a month later when I needed a new computer because I couldn't stop thinking about it, lol.

After waiting for this phone since it was called the "Incredible HD" (3g only, not 4g) back in November, I finally gave in and got an iPhone. There are a lot of great things about both of them, and while I generally dislike Apple and prefer the freedom of Android, the iP4 is a nice device and the battery life is sweet. In the end it just comes down to how bad you want/need 4g, a big screen, and slightly better hardware, as the Tbolt has all those over the iPhone.

going to wait for the official release info on the thunderbolt. if it is released at 300 bucks AND is missing skype and potentially other once-touted features (seriously, look at all of the CES vids and the thunderbolt reps are ALL about skype skype skype) then i am taking a big ole PASS on this phone. i know the 32 gig card is pricey, but frankly i don't NEED 32 gigs. 16 would be plenty. and LTE speeds are awesome (once they get to my area at the end of the year supposedly) but i can live with 3g speed til my next upgrade. but 300 dollars for an unproven phone with new LTE technology to boot is pushing it. hopefully this next week will be telling, one way or the other. anyone else feel the same way?

I do feel the same, but I still want it really bad. Though all of the above has caused a serious dilemma for me lately. If I knew I wouldn't get screwed on data pricing, I'd probably wait for the price drop. Well, there's that and the fact that the husband has an upgrade 4/4 and will not wait. Can you just see me oozing with jealousy if he had it before me?

But I'm definitely not going to get excited about anymore he said, she said, he said, his brother's friend's cousin said it's coming out tomorrow.

If the iPhone 4 had just come out then it would be something to consider alongside any other new phone. The fact that the iPhone 4 just came out on Verizon's network with a new iPhone being rumored in a few months, I wouldn't want to invest in a new iPhone even if it's the first iPhone due out on Verizon's network. If you're really interested in an iPhone, wait till the new iPhone comes out later this year. If it comes with 4G capabilities, your purchase of a 3G iPhone 4 will give you a bad case of buyer's remorse.

To recap, if you must have an iPhone, wait to see if the new iPhone is 4G capable, if not there are plenty of 4G phones out there that compete very well with an iPhone, and IMO some even trump the iPhone.

a much-repeated sentiment and one that i at least partially agree with. and if there was another speedy phone on verizon with a front facing camera i probably would have already jumped on it. but there's not. and i am sticking with verizon. as for other android phones, i really REALLY did not like the moto phones i have used thus far. tried the atrix recently and THAT was laggy!! i think htc, while not on the bleeding edge of dual cores at the moment, has the user interface and smoothness nailed. since i'm not a huge gamer that is a top priority for me. obviously, the iphone, while a different OS, also has the smoothness and interface nailed down. so again, if you have a non-moto ffc phone on verizon that i should invest in please point me to it. and from what i have read, LG's interface isn't much better than moto's.

True if you didn't get the free buyback from bestbuy when you purchased your iphone 4. I just got the iphone because I needed a phone already, i have had the thunderbolt preordered since the 7th. If it comes out on the 4th i will still be in my 14 days windows to switch, if not I will be looking forward to using the buy back program to switch to another phone.

That's definitely a big drawback, but I'll say this, when I did Apple support and people would come in with a cracked screen, I'd tell them to check the prices on E-bay and see how much more people were willing to pay for iPhones even with just a broken screen.

There's definitely a lot of hype surrounding the iPhone, and while you have a lot of people that will knock the iPhone because it appears to draw the "me-too" crowd, it's still a solid phone. Different strokes for different folks.

I must admit I have been turned off by the iphone becuse of the lack of widgets. I am going to check it out again and take a closer look. HTC just seems to have more and more problems. My wife has the dinc and it is a nice little phone. I was on the list for one and got tired of waiting and picked up a droid. Best decision I ever made. Maybe picking up the iphone because I am being forced to wait for the tb will work out? I dunno. But I think I will at least wait to get one in my hands and check it out before I make that decision. Android market if good, most of the stuff is free, but then again most of the stuff is garbage. I have never explored the iphone apps and that will be something I do before I make a decision also. It is the whole package to me. And yes, I preordered my tb on the first day available. Had it come in when promised (14th) I would have bought it and never looked back. The wait alone is making me take a deeper look at the options out there and that is probably a good thing.

I've been thinking about an iPhone too but suddenly, a Droid X seems like a better compromise. You can pick it up for free on Amazon with a new 2 year contract.

I got a Iphone 4 on the Feb. 15 and i am taking back today. I had a Droid X and i can tell you first hand the Iphone while nice and small is IMO is not as good as the X for me. To each is their own. I am going to Best Buy and paying full price for the another Droid X with a 30 day return on it and save my upgrade for the TB and return the X to Best Buy for a full refund when the ThurnderBolt releases.
I was a huge Iphone fan, i had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen iphone but due to signal problems i moved to Verizon with the X. ios is just old technology imo. Anyway looking forward to the TB and HTC sense. Good luck all, i am final just about over this emotional roller coaster with TB.
