iPHONE 4 TEMPTATION... TALK ME DOWN!!!

I got a Iphone 4 on the Feb. 15 and i am taking back today. I had a Droid X and i can tell you first hand the Iphone while nice and small is IMO is not as good as the X for me. To each is their own. I am going to Best Buy and paying full price for the another Droid X with a 30 day return on it and save my upgrade for the TB and return the X to Best Buy for a full refund when the ThurnderBolt releases.
I was a huge Iphone fan, i had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen iphone but due to signal problems i moved to Verizon with the X. ios is just old technology imo. Anyway looking forward to the TB and HTC sense. Good luck all, i am final just about over this emotional roller coaster with TB.

I'm not sure what's old about iOS. Could you please elaborate?

My resolve has been shaken today...I never had an android but the rumored battery life on the TB might be a deal breaker for me...I am actually thinking of stopping by Verizon later...I guess the case and battery for the TB are going back

The iphone OS has changed very little compared to its arrival in 2007. The iphone is smooth and works well for what it does. Example pinch to zoom the iphone vs android text is reformatted to be on the screen to scroll north & south. Iphone north, south east & west.
Google Navigation
Voice Search much better on android
Notifications
I can go on and on.
IMO better app free----I am fully aware of the Jailbreak/Cydia
In my comparison Droid X smokeys the iphone in all test excepts colors
Iphone is a simply phone and much easier for the average Joe. Once you figure out the potential of the android system and all that it does then the comparison goes out the window. This is just my opinion and to each is their own. Like i said i was once a huge iphone fan and have had every model.

Thanks. I'm about to find out if all that is true once I get Thunderbolt. For now, every single Android device had just way too may cons than pros when comparing to the iPhone 4 and iOS.

I haven't had any battery problems with my Eris or my wife's Dinc. However, I don't care for Moto, WON'T go for Samsung. I really like HTC, but the battery problems (rumor) and price of the Bolt is turning me off. I may just hold off to see what iOS 5 and the next iPhone brings.

What exactly are u referring to? In my experience (have had quite a few androids...d1, dinc, dx as well as had my fair share of play around time on friends & families iPhones) I find there to be many more cons than pros on the iPhone & few cons on android. The only pros I personally see for ios are the smoothness factor & screen resolution. And as mentioned above have found endless pros for android...notifications, fully customizable ui, many more free apps in android market, web text screen optimization upon zooming, ability to install custom roms & overclock w/custom kernals, widgets, flash, etc etc etc. Once again just my opinion.

Totally respect your opinion but all that makes you turn the 4G off and most of the notifications just so your battery makes it through the day. My intention isn't to troll, as I really like HTC products, and can't wait to buy TB, but I'm also aware that I'll have to turn all my stuff off pretty much all the time besides EVDO and pray that my battery will last from 7am till 10pm. But I'm prepared so my expectations are already set ;)

I went with the iPhone 4 and am very happy. After being away from the platform for over a year it feels good to be back. Many issues have been addressed and the iPhone 4 is a fantastic device.
No, it's not the most feature packed...but it fits my needs and does what I need it to do. Some of what it does is better and something Android did better.
I don't form an emotional bond...my wife knows that I plan on selling the iPhone 4 later on down the road for another phone. What phone and when? I dunno tbh. I'll keep my ear to the ground.
WebOS & Windows Phone 7 look very appealing. I really feel that these platforms plus iOS have something that is still missing from Android...polish. This isn't as big of a deal to some, but to me I really appreciate the polish that other platforms have. HTC has done the best job of polishing Android, but there's more to be done.
As for battery life, well I've put my iPhone to work today. 6 hours of heavy use, much of which was spent killing zombies :)
13:45 off the charger
6:07 up-time
15% battery life remaining
My Incredible never came this close, the Droid X did with an extended battery.
To the OP, make your choice and enjoy it. TB or iP4 are both great phones...you'll be happy either way.

That can be handled though thanks to the android handsets allowing us access to our battery via the rear battery door. I agree that the 4g on the TB will likely eat up a ton of battery! I know this kinda sucks from a $ standpoint but I have pretty much already accepted the fact that I will be having to buy a second battery to have on standby at all times. This is just the approach I will be taking because I just can't pass on this amazing looking device (TB), especially since I live in ATL & 4g LTE is already up & running here. Looking exceptional too, in my area many friends are getting 22-25 mbps down & 5-10 mbps up...super exciting!!! I hope this helps & we all get our TB's this week! There's no harm in hoping.

so does anyone know if the subsidized price for new every two upgrades (for another two years) is the same as a new contract for 2 years?

Here' all you need to know: my wife got one last monday and it was returned by wednesday. she'd never had a smartphone so it wasn't due to a comparison w/ my Incredible. if you had 3 bars, all was fine. ONce you dropped to 2 bars, then the call got sketchy, w/ you dropping syllables off the beginning of sentences, and fading on volume, up and down. We'd call each other in the house and the iphone would be terrible, while the Inc was just fine.

Thanks to Vzw, I even got to pay a $35 restocking fee for helping them determine that their product sucked.

My personal biggest irritations with the iPhone is the proprietary software, little to no customization, no removable battery (WTF is that?), and no swappable memory. All of those things are deal-breakers for me. It's like a control thing or something....

You don't need to swap the battery as it has amazing battery life, especially compared to HTC phones.

And the swappable memory thing I just don't understand. I sorta made sense when all you could put on the card was music. But now with apps being installed on the card and apps storing data on the card, do you copy that data constantly between all your SD cards?

Except when the battery eventually dies, then you out of luck. Memory is for when you decide you need to expand total memory or maybe you want to bring 10 movies along on a trip.

if you need to bring 10 movies on a trip then I suggest taking shorter trips else you're REALLY TRIPPIN!!!

I went to the apple store yesterday and tried get the sales person to convince me to get an iphone. Other than basic functions, navigation as search are the 2 most important features on the phone to me. Apple has no app that comes close to google navigation with voice search. Nothing compares, and they admitted as much. That closed the door on the iphone for me.

I'm also on the fence. I just played with an iphone today at BB and it was great. It was very responsive and the screen was awesome! I have a moto droid now and I do love the navigation, but i don't use it often. It's great knowing it's there when I do need it though. I heard there are nav iphone apps (Tom Tom), but I don't want to pay $50 for it either when I know android has it for free. I love that I would be able to get Netflix (on the iphone) and that would be a life saver when I am out with my 3 yr old and 1 yr old.

So spend the money on an Applecare plan instead of spare batteries.

preface: i have always been biased against apple products. my current phone was a verizon feature phone the lg versa. i was now ready to throw down the big bucks and buy a smart phone and pay the $30/month.

I was all ready to purchase the HTC TB. I was the first one to pre order at my local BB store. but then delays and rumors and and more delays. and the more i read the more i realized that in almost every write up and every smack down comparison everyone was comparing something to the iphone. so obviously the iphone is the cream of the crop. so after carfully looking at things i care about in a phone i realized the iphone was better in almost every category, so last Saturday i bought myself an iphone. i am a very happy customer, here is my breakdown of why i picked iphone over the TB or any other droid for that matter.

skype, iphone can do that
netflix, iphone can do that
battery life, iphone has longer battery life
display, better viewing angles in direct sunlight

so far i have not found something that i have wanted to do that the iphone can't.
i would recommend the iphone to anyone who is purchasing their first smartphone. especially if you have young children. the games, e-books and netflix apps are necessities and they aren't available on the android market (at least not yet)

Hey, now. The Market has Angry Birds. My boys LOVE Angry Birds. :D

Can we just close this thread? This is an Android forum. If you want to get an iPhone, cool. Why you would post about it here is beyond me.

Android has broad shoulders and do we. Given that, and that Android is all about choice, this seems like a perfectly cromulent thread, and informative to boot.

Been meaning to chime in anyway and point out that the Angry Bird authors make more money on the free Android version over the paid iPhone one and that Android does ebooks exceedingly well.

Apple - Support - iPhone Out-of-warranty Battery Replacement Program

$80.00 for a non damaged replacement. I know it's a little more than what you'd pay for just getting a new battery for some phones, but your iPhone isn't a paper weight as soon as the battery is dead. I think I've seen only 1-2 instances in my years when I worked at Apple where the battery was truly depleted and not some water-damage or cosmetic damage that caused the phone not to power on.

My take on the whole "Mac vs Windows", "Android vs iPhone" is the Apple product is like a Toyota or a Honda with an automatic transmission. It performs its duties loyally and has a good user interface for those wanting to commute from point A to point B. In contrast, Windows/Android is like a high strung sports car/muscle car/jeep with a manual transmission. It can be a little hassle at times, when it's cold it may not turn over right away, you tweak it here and there to get better performance out of it, but it's in the tweaking and personalization that gives you satisfaction. Not everyone's a techno-nerd and needs that level of control. A lot of people are perfectly happy driving Toyotas and Hondas. Just because you can't identify with them doesn't mean they're wrong.
